PRE-GAME Round 9 - Broncos v Cowboys

What Walters said to the team - that was overheard:

"We are not fucking good enough yet to shift the ball and make these mistakes. Just get the ball to Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan, get to the other end of the fucking field and kick to the corners (to pin the opposition wingers on their tryline).”

Walters:

“Our standards around training dropped and we need to keep those standards up,” he said of the error-riddled session. My passion is not something I hide. I want this club to do well and part of that is around training and making sure we get it right every time we come out onto the training paddock.”

TPJ:

“He’s had a few roasts but it’s obviously working. We have been playing good at home but away from home we haven’t been too good and we have to rectify that. Kevvie is trying to fix that."

“We have strike (in attack) but defence has been a problem the last few years. He is driving our defence and our defence coach John Cartwright is helping us a lot. Kevvie has learned a lot from Wayne (Bennett, former Broncos coach) on ball control. He has been harping on it a lot so it’s good for us.”

On the one hand I'm OK with him yelling, but I really don't agree about getting the ball to Haas and Carrigan. Shouldn't the Broncos be trying not to burn these guys out? I know they are the two most consistent forwards, but its not good in the long term.

Our biggest weakness is Isaako vs Drinkwaters kicking game. He’s very proficient at those short kicks in behind the line. which were exposing Isaako last week. I think we roll them otherwise but it will all come down to Isaako’s positioning.

Broncos in another high scoring affair.

Copley returns from...the wilderness? Like where has he actually been?

I want Levi to start running more.

That's probably the best aspect of his game and he doesn't use it. Whether that's Kevvie telling him not to, who knows? But he really needs to start sniffing around the ruck for some tired forwards and start running more. If he could do that and have either Milford or Isaako running off his hip, that could produce some points, or at least get us a lot of momentum and get us on the front foot.

The new rules are making having a running dummy half more valuable. We should start trying to exploit that.

I have a feeling this is it. He just wants Levi to settle into the team at this point, rather than overplay his hand. Get to know the players etc first. I agree though that he needs to start running a bit more. Pick his moments though.

I reckon kevvie is nervous they are going to come out against the cowboys thinking they can score off every second set like the titans let them. We never really got the opportunity last week to build pressure & earn line dropouts because the titans defence was soo poor. We have no right going into the game with that attitude. We need to be patient & composed.
Yep sounds like a spray to fight against complacency.

The boys have had a win, but they can't get ahead of themselves and not turn up.

If this is the actual game plan that plays out this week I’ll facepalm.

The counter to this is ball control and controlling field position.

If we don't make stupid mistakes then cows will struggle to get field position. Our middles shit on theirs outside of Lolo, but Payten takes him off so early that we may be able to reduce his impact.

If we apply the Penrith game plan we'll have them shot to bits. The issue is sustaining it for 80mins.

Is this the first time piakura is named in the 21?

It was an exit set- let your middles do their job and get us out of here.

He told the media cameras down then let loose.
