PRE-GAME Round 9 - Broncos vs Bulldogs

Why is everyone so keen to make multiple positional changes mid game?!

It disrupts all the combinations

It might also gives a different point of attack. Unless Murphy plays I don't see that we have much choice

With moose out we would need more forwards I Wouldn't be surprised if bird defends middle and kodi defends on the edge for a certain amount of time like they did against the bunnies but I would prefer Murphy coming into the team

I doubt if Murphy is the answer, a life long tier two player who isn't even a specialist in that position. Bennett very rarely throws a first gamer into the spine because it is fraught with danger. He may be forced to this time but don't be surprised if he comes up with a different option.

Don't be surprised to see:

2. Kahu
5. Isaako
9. Glenn
11. Oates

I would be surprised to see that. Wayne is a good coach and all but he doesn't make huge surprises with selection

Even if Oates moves to the backrow, I can't see him starting.

Bennett always said he would be starting off on the bench.

Yep, absolutely. My point is more that we shouldn't be surprised to see Oates in the forwards this week.

I’m a little concerned about this game. McGuire, Gillett, Kahu, Macca and possibly Lodge out. No decent starting hooker options so our attack will suffer once again.

We have really struggled this year to score points and I think next week will be the same.

The dogs will by no means be a easy win. They actually played well for the first 38mins last night against a panthers side who have been winning a lot of games!

If we are in front at halftime then I think we win. Our attack will be better in the second half with Nikorima at hooker. I just hope we aren’t down by 12 points by that stage!

1. Boyd
2. Oates
3. Tommy
4. Roberts
5. Isaako
6. Bird
7. Milford
8. Lodge / sims if injured
9. Glenn
10. Thaiday
11. Sims
12. Su’a
13. TPJ

14. Nikorima
15. Offa
16. Haas
17. Taga

Tagatese for Thaiday. Swap those around.

I think you said that last week and I like it. Surely we gotta thrash someone soon. We haven't put a decent score line on any team thus far.
We will just win the game against Dogs but Manly for sure is waiting to get flogged from us the week after. We will definitely be in +ve on the ladder after that game. :superhappythumbsup:

Thaiday and tagatese are pretty much on par from what I'm hearing. I was impressed with how thaiday has approached his final year a team member. I can't judge him highly on his play, (although he did do well on Thursday), but he seems to playing from the script with Bennet in everything he does on, and off the field. I suspect that's why he been given that guarantee by wb.
His focus seems to be solely on the team ethic. That's a good place to begin when setting an example for the younger players. He seems to a changed man from round 1.
If he plays more like he did on thursday, he will be as much a leader on the field as he seems off it.

When we are back at full strength I think we are a pretty handy side! My full strength team would be
1. Boyd
2. Oates
3. Bird
4. Roberts
5. Kahu
6. Milford
7. Nikorima
8. Lodge
9. Macca
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
12. Gillett
13. TPJ
14. Thaiday
15. Sims
16. Offa
17. Su’a
18. Haas as cover for sims or Thaiday if they start to stink it up!
19. Tommy if we want more versatility on the bench but Su’a is capable of doing that role IMO

I have bird at centre because it strengthens our edge and I believe we are far more dangerous with Kodi on the field! His passing and kicking game is better then birds and his running game is just as good in terms of how dangerous he is. Bird at centre makes sense to me!

When do you anticipate the Broncos being back at full strength? 2021? Didn't you learn your lesson with Kodi's previous stint at HB?

You talking about the stints where everyone was terrible probably expect for TPJ and Lodge...? Where the team had atrocious ball handling skills and the forwards didn’t go forward and the halves had little to no chance of doing anything...? The best game we have played all year was against the cowboys. We actually looked dangerous and who was playing 7 that game? It wasn’t bird!

Give me Nikorima any day at 7. There is other benefits to him playing 7 too! It strengthens our edge and we are more dangerous with bird at centre then tommy!

No it doesn’t it weakens our edge because of his inability to tackle the big boys running and targeting him
