Good win, unlucky not to have won by a bigger margin.
The Panthers started with a real point to prove but their attention to detail was lacking. You can argue the toss any which way, if you carry the ball that loosely you're going to be susceptible to a loose carry and I'm glad the referees showed some common sense and punished Penrith for coming up with an error.
When it was the Broncos turn, they unleashed James Roberts and he was simply amazing. I was thinking the other day how symbolic these past few weeks have been for him. First he scored a hat-trick against his last former club the Titans, he put in a strong performance against the Rabbits and tonight he was just pure electric. Fingers crossed the injury isn't as bad as the trainers made it look and he'll be right to go in the short-term.
I thought one of the major positives was right before half-time. The Broncos started playing some silly backyard footy with no-look passes, forcing them to cover and I thought their desperation was outstanding. I truly believe those efforts right before half-time snuffed whatever comeback was on.
In the second half, the Broncos just went set for set, resulting in a good strong try to Korbin. Then they went off their game a bit and were just too cute. I could understand why Boyd would put a grubber through, but he had Jordan 'I make Reed look like Roberts' Kahu on the wing. I reckon Sammy would have got there faster, fortunately Kahu is so talented he doesn't rely on pure speed to make his way into the team.
But yeah those cutesy plays proved the bane and once Penrith got a sniff, they went on the front foot and just played silly football. It looks great when the passes are sticking, but it isn't always going to work out and McGuire showed why coming up with two very important possessions. The only concern really was Kodi in defence, with Gillett being a little off, you could tell how bad he was and he became a very easy target for the Panthers defence.
Also, is Wayne's ploy to play a back on the bench panning out or what? Once again, thank god we had somebody there and didn't just give Penrith an easy advantage to exploit like in Round 3 2016 where they just ran at Reed's vacant corner.
Very enjoyable win and to go 4/4 with another home game up our sleeves is very encouraging.
