POST GAME Round 9 - Broncos vs Panthers

1. Boyd - His consistency is phenomenal these days, just so good as always, some strong defensive efforts as always - 8
2. Oates - He was so strong tonight in everything he did. He is working his butt off to cover for the defensive errors and lack of passing from his centre. Such a gun. 8
3. Roberts - He is a star outright, just has become so electric and is probably the most dangerous player in the side at present, so his loss to injury is HUGE, probably season changing if it's long-term such is his importance now - 9
4. Moga - Scored a try, makes a lot of metres but is mediocre in attack at best and rocks and diamonds in defense - 5
5. Kahu - Put that shocker of a few weeks ago well in the past with a great try and some excellent work all round, needs more power on his goal kicks - 8
6. Milford - He was excellent in the first half and disappeared in the second, his defense disappeared then too - 6
7. KNik - How Good was that first half! He was still pretty good in the second too but did start to go missing on the back of all those pathetic penalties starving us of ball, he showed so much tonight and Hunt could learn from how he uses Gillett - 7
16. Ese'ese - Was very good in parts but needs to get back to that early season form throughout the game - 6
9. Macca - I thought he was quite good aside from that shocking kick late in the game. Still makes some silly decisions in attack - 8
10. Blair - He really stood up when needed tonight with some big runs or big hits. 7
14. Glenn - His best game in a while, nice for number 200 as well but the old Glenn was back for the most part - 8
12. Gillett - Strong in defense when it counted and is being used better in attack by KNik, some noticeable dropped tackles though - 6
13. McGuire - Very high quality game once again as you'd expect from the guy but still offers nothing in the 13 he didn't as a prop, get some offloads happening!! - 8

15. Joffa - A noticeable step down on last week, seemed to really struggle for the most part, might be under pressure to hold his place even if TPJ and Arrow are still out - 5
8. Sims - What a great buy he is! Scored a try again and was just such a weapon off the bench - 8
11. Thaiday - He did a lot of quality work as always but there were some very noticeable occasions where he was just standing around seemingly letting players through when we were on the back foot, I DID NOT like what I saw at all with that - 5
17. Mead - Well he didn't really have to do anything but Roberts injury proved that having a reserve back on the bench is a really good idea - 3

Couldn't understand how they awarded Moylan's try, ball clearly bounced that rarely happens unless the player forces the ball down with some force... Seems the bunker is.just becoming more random

Yet the only controversial call you'll hear about is the panthers disallowed try at the start of the game.

Is Wayne losing his marbles and telling the team it's a game of 40minutes because that's how they keep playing... is it attitude, concentration, fitness, bench management exposing fatigue, game management or do the refs check the scoreline at half time?

I suspect all of the above.

For a small pack they tire way too much (or is it because they burn their energy trying to keep up with bigger bods?). McCullough is not an 80 minute player which leaves big holes in attack and defence and in all fairness with the amount of tackles he can't be expected to be. Don't understand why with the quality ex halves on payroll why none can teach ours to close a game.

Agree trying to hand onto a lead doesn't work and Broncs are dumb as dogs***t for not realising it by now

At end of the day they need a serious head-shrinking, coaching lesson and kick up the ass.

Just a square up. We're now free

Probably similar to a golf swing where if you try and put more power into it it can throw everything else out.

He hits it so nice and straight that putting that bit of extra power into it could throw it off slightly and although it would have the distance it probably won't go as straight
I actually think it's more likely that he isn't following through fully due to a subconscious fear that he will injure his hamstring. I believe he is hampered in his action. Great result tonight, good first half but the last twenty was understandable as a team with nothing to lose can make any side look pedestrian.

I'm going to be honest here, I'm not too concerned about that last 20. Everything was going for Penrith including the refs whistle and all their bullshit passes were too plus their last tackle plays where we were normally in line to defend at the back. We dominated them for practically the whole game and put it out of reach by half time. Here's to hoping Roberts injury isn't too bad

To be honest the penalty count is such a minor issue to me. It got them maybe 1 try on the back of the multiple sets on our try line. The rest of the points came from us switching off and not sticking to what worked for us for 50 minutes prior.

Sick of the team clocking off instead of focussing and building a big big score. That rash of pussy ineffective shoulder grabs by so many of the team in the 2nd half was so irritating and disappointing. One day, it will cost us big time unless that shit tackling technique, or rather sheer laziness, is coached out of the side.

As for Gillett's missed tackles, yes, however at the same time, he missed a number of 1st attempts but came back and completed the miss, and, his last ditch defence on our try line was important to winning. And loved that set play with Milf at the end.

Seriously tho the rules are pretty clear cut if it's sent up as a try you have to find evidence to overturn. One angle it did look like he dropped it but the other shot looked like he still had a hand on it And you couldnt say without a shadow of a doubt that he didn't. One thing I know for sure is that I wouldn't bet my life on it.

I'm happy with the decision.

'Tis true but I just hated seeing the way we tried to tackle. The arm grabbing was ridiculous. In 2015 our defence stung. Guys were driving in hard with shoulders.

When hunt is back move him to bench as second hooker/lock supersub, Kodi is doing enough and he looks like the go next year without a suitable option on Market.

Pretty disappointed with the forward to be honest.

I agree, I had no problems with that ruling. Impossible to overturn given the shaky evidence.

The blatant trip must be punished in my opinion ....I just can't understand how the commentary team bar one missed it ! That was only mentioned once but Moga certainly felt it and I'll bet combined with the ridiculous off side penalty he'll be left wondering what's happened in the reffing ranks.

Not a perfect performance but I think we can all agree we came put tonight with far more intent that weve shown in a while.

Last couple of weeks we've taken a while to work our way into the contest but I we were hungry and committed from the opening whistle. Initial arm wrestle I thought was running in Penrith's favour but we stayed tight, waited for the error and struck hard. Exactly what was required for this match up.

For those of you watching at home, what the hell went on with Penrith in the shadows of half time? They had us back peddling,, shot to bits on the right, then left, then right again and just could not execute to save themselves. Did DWZ cop a knock or cork? Seriously had us dead to rights, can't see how they botched their chances.

Only forward made more than 100 meters is josh McGuire. Broncos forward pack need to step up big time.

Oh please the Panthers whole momentum run of tries was based off running at Kodi, they got straight through him atleast twice. Other (better) teams will already had this in the books. If hunt is playing, they don't get through.

Lol, yeah Hunt is going to play lock. He will take his place at halfback, hopefully in a fortnight's time. Niko has been a half decent replacement but he will never be the first choice #7 at this club.

He isn't doing enough for mine, he's doing exactly what I expected, nice running game, knack for scoring tries, non-existant medium/long kicking game or game management.

Hunt will come straight back in to the 7.
