PRE-GAME Round 9 - Sea Eagles vs Broncos

Perhaps Carrigan isn't being brought on for impact.

Perhaps Carrigan is being brought on to give us a fresh defender when the forwards are tiring. We have other forwards for impact.

Anyone with any sense would know you wouldn't bring on a player like Carrigan or even Joffa for impact. One of them should be starting. We have TPJ as the only middle forward on the bench now who can provide that impact now. It's a stupid way to use our forward rotation imo. Two impact players and one workhorse to keep the momentum going is better.

Pat can provide a similar job as Welch does for Melbourne. Christian's best games have actually been off the bench despite being a less explosive player than Nelson.

coming off the bench shouldn't make a massive difference to Carrigans minutes if Seibold uses him correctly

Nothing Siebs has done thus far screams he knows how to use a bench even adequately.

Haven't seen too many people praising his bench usage. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes, much like young players, young coaches have to learn from them. It doesn't take a statistical genius to figure out that playing a guy who has made his living off tackling & running for long minutes at all levels needs to play more than 16 minutes a game to have the desired impact.

Which does make sense.

If we started with Carrigan all of a sudden we have a bench of Flegler, Fifita, TPJ & Ofahengaue. Which on the surface sounds a great impact bench, but really it's 4 guys who are prone to missing tackles when they get gassed.

I'm happy with Lodge, Haas & Carrigan leading the minutes for the forwards, coming off the bench shouldn't make a massive difference to Carrigans minutes if Seibold uses him correctly. (Bring him on after 30 mins and leave him on)

But isn’t that kind of the point of them being bench/impact? Two replace the other two in one form or another, so they don’t get tired

The saving grace in this one is that the Manly squad is basically a reserve grade side. This weakened Bronco team should account for them but it won't be easy and certainly isn't a surety.

It's just odd that we still played terribly even with a hooker making linebreaks and speeding his passes up. It's like our problems lie elsewhere or something

Or perhaps we have more than one problem and hooker is just one of them.

I don't watch any of the lower grades. Do Dearden and Turpin play together at all?

No.

Turpin is 5 years older, came up through the Melbourne Storm system and played for the Sunshine Coast Falcons before coming to the Broncos and representing the Dolphins.

Dearden came up through the Mackay junior leagues before being scouted by the Broncos and being offered a scholarship at PBC. He played for Tweed Heads in the lower grades before turning out for Wynnum this year.

Does anyone know what time captains run is tomorrow, also are the public able to go and watch? Live in NSW, and heading up for magic round, thought I might go and see what they actually get up to..?

I think its a joke starting Flegler over Joffa or Carrigan. They are more suited to starting, Tom is more suited to bench impact.

Think we need a bit of energy from the get-go. Flegler has that. Play him for 15 or so and then another stint later on. Mind, I'd be dropping Lodge to the bench, putting Flegler at prop and Ofahengaue at lock.

I just want us to start strongly again for the 3rd time this year. No more playing for behind.

I'm thinking the move back to his preferred side is gonna work wonders for Bird. I'm thinking he might even score a double

That might happen if Seibold allows Dearden to play his game this week. Last week it seemed like the game plan was to go to Milford 75% of the time to ease Dearden in, that's not why he's in the team, he's there to ease the burden on Milford and allow him to run more. Go right!

Pretty to hard to have a great bench when your a bottom 4 team like us.
