Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Coaching the Australian side is easy peasy. Sheens became an absolutely horrendous club coach in the later stages of his club career.

Re: Round 9 - Broncos vs Cowboys Pre-game discussion

1. If Kearney got the gig and we played well for the remainder of the season and looked a different side, you'd be willing to take a punt on him - considering other coaches struggled to get the best out of Parra after him shows maybe it wasn't entirely his fault (IE, the culture absolutely stank).

In no way am I suggesting we should hire Kearney, but the reality is - if he got the short term gig and did well, he'd be worth a punt. If he got the short term gig and sucked, is it going to be much worse than we've been given for 2 1/2 seasons now? Further to that, if that did occur, then he'd have no chance of getting the full time gig and would probably be removed from the staff entirely. Win/win?

2. We aren't playing above expectations, not at least as far as the board is concerned because there have been numerous references to the side being a top 4 side - whether as a fan you believe that or not, if that is the expectation either the board or the coach has benchmarked and we aren't there, then he's falling short of expectations.

3. Barba fell into our lap - he wanted to move to Qld and the Titans had no cap space. Please don't delude yourself into thinking we pulled off a coup by signing him under the noses of a dozen clubs.

4. Vidot was always a promising player, you obviously don't remember his performances in the u20's and for the Raiders during his first couple of seasons where he was just about neck and neck with JYY as the next winger for Qld. He went off the tracks at the Raiders (who hasn't?) and didn't get much of a gig for St George to re-establish himself. Yes he's playing well but Griffin hasn't woven any magic here, he's just given him a chance to prove himself and Vidot has done the rest.

5. So what? He's a HB. We're surely not giving credit to a coach for playing people in their proper positions, are we? What's next? We gonna give him props for making sure the water bottles are filled to the brim?

In all honesty I don't think we're doing too badly this year, but I don't rate Griffin as a coach and think he'll be gone by end of season at the latest. Some of the stuff we're giving him props for though is, well, an indictment of how far we've fallen and what we're willing to give credit/praise for.

1- Brad Arthur is doing a good job with a new look Eels team after the Ricky cleanout. The poor Eels team of 2013 was Kearney's fault if you ask me. He oversaw the recruitment of Sandow, Tonga, Lussick and the loss of players that were crucial to Parra. They have only had 2 coaches since he left, Ricky who failed and backed out and Arthur who is overseeing the haul back.

2- Playing above expectations the media, ourselves on here and most of the Rugby League world in general placed on us. Of course the admin and board are going to back the team in any situation and they have more knowledge and insight into the team than anyone who isn't connected to the team have. If someone before the season claimed that the Broncos atm would be in 6th spot with a 50/50 win rate that would've been quite a say

3- I agree completely about Barba, Vidot and Hunt although I didn't see Vidot in the under 20's (I don't watch it) but I had seen enough of him to know that he had great potential. A part of Hook's job is recruitment and he oversaw the signings of Vidot and Barba and finally played Hunt in his best spot after being developed as a utility.

Griffin was the one who dudded Hunt's development for 3 years. Who knows how far ahead he'd be if it wasn't for bench hooking, maybe he'd be able to play open side well and take better control of close games already?

We're already in the fire mate.

We might not be burnt to a crisp just yet but we're already in it, and if gets much worse there's not much difference between well done and meteorite.

I disagree ....we've started the season a lot better than most were thinking we would.

Andrew Gee re-signed Peter Wallace prematurely. Griffin had no choice but to play Wallace instead of Hunt.

Peter Wallace is the one who retarded Ben Hunt's development.

Correct. I find XXXX's agenda against Wallace a bit crazy at times but he is spot on the money here.

If Wallace didn't have the halfback spot sewn up Hunt would be a veteran of a hundred starting games by now.

Griffin was the one who was actually picking Wallace. He was the one who was working the needle. And Griffin never drops key players, unless it's for retarded reasons.

The point is Griffin should have let him develop at halfback or 5/8th (even if it was in QLD Cup).

I blame Phil Gould for offering Wallace a contract and for us apparently wanting to keep him happy by letting him keep the halfback spot. **** you, Gus.

Anthony Griffin. You are the weakest link! Goodbye...

If you go back through his NRL coaching career, he's had 9 retarded decisions for every 1 good one.

He MUST go. Tonight was fucking woeful. You can't beat the Cowboys Origin props with Moose and a 20-min Kennedy. FFS. Dropping Hannant was a shit idea, and then Kennedy sits on the bench for 3/4 of the game while the Cowboys smash us silly? Fucking seriously?! I'm livid.

This defeat tonight was entirely Griffin's fault, when you break it down to what matters. Hannant must be furious.

Either that or pissing himself laughing. We could really, really have used him tonight. FFS!!

Yep, if Kennedy wasn't injured, that bench selection and use was appalling!

His use of the bench was completely amateur tonight and the treatment of Kennedy who was imo our best player in the first 20 minutes was just odd with the axing of Hannant only the icing of it.

I could've selected the team better and coached them better than what he did tonight.
