Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Their attack actually looked much better with tohu because Johnson really took control and was outplaying his opposites. He seemingly went into his shell when John was on. I think they were really just a class fullback away from an upset though.

the length of the field sets by the Aussies in the second half didn't help. Their forwards just ran out of steam after initially ambushing the Aussies.

Sorry mate but after seeing what Kearney has done tonight with a bunch of NSW Cup players against one of the best Aussie teams ever, I have no problem with Kearney taking over from Griffin the muppet.

Kearney was given no chance against the Aussies. He took some risks on his selections and got within 10 minutes of a win against a superstar team.

It was a great effort and gutsy performance by the Kiwis no doubt but Kearney despite achieving some success at international level is pathetic at club level.

His tenure at Parramatta was probably the worst Rugby League coaching I have ever witnessed he turned an underperforming team into absolute shit one and made terrible recruitment and player retention decisions that just made the Eels a joke and the team played like a bunch of 5 year olds as a result.

At least Hook has got some stuff on his resume to brag about and has achieved things at club level which Kearney has never gotten close to.

Griffin or Kearney? It's kind of like Sophie's choice, except you hate your children.

Anyone watching the under 20's origin. Milford isn't doing anything to make me think he will be anything special at 5/8. Kicking game and passing game have been poor. If he isn't performing at this level what makes people think he will be anything special at 5/8 in first grade. I just hope the broncos don't put all their eggs in the Milford basket in regards to salary cap and trying to compete with Canberra

Really? I've been impressed with Milford's ball playing. He's taking it to the line, and because of his known running threat it's looking quite dangerous. He's already set up one line break and been involved in another promising shift that failed because some backrower ran inside instead of passing (aka Hoffmanitis). For mine his ball playing has been impressive, though I wouldn't write home about his kicking game.

Not only that he will be more dangerous with the Broncos Forwards running off him.

I'm watching this game. For mine, Qld are absolute shite. Disorganized, piece meal, sloppy. Milford has looked ordinary to me but, he is like a fish out of water. He needs a well organized side around him like any class player.

At about 15mins in to this under 20's origin game my first thought was, "who the hell is the QLD coach? This side seems a complete shambles in every way". I then find out it's Kevin Walters and remember the discussions here wishing for Walters to be the Broncos coach... Can't say I'm impressed, not that it's all his fault. I'm happy to stick with Hook, personally (if the alternative is Kev).

He had like 4 days of training with a bunch of kids, a lot of who haven't played together before, haha, give him a break.

And we missed 33 tackles.

And we cannot get a repeat set of six to save our lives.

And we cannot complete a set of six after scoring, ever.

And we cannot convert our tries despite being completely professional and having expert skills coaches in all facets of the game. (sic by Paul White).

And we cannot control a game through effective kicking.

And the list goes on...

Yeah Jason I was a bit puzzled by blaming our losses on the 'bounce of the ball.' I'm a bit confused as well when people on the boards and the media say our defence is going great. As you pointed out we missed 30 tackles and in some games it's been over 40! I think the closeness of the score lines in most of our games is confusing people into thinking we're going better than we are.

I get what you are saying, and I'm not so fickle as to make up my mind on one dodgy rep game. I haven't weighed into the coaching debate too much as I haven't got any answers.

The team simply looked uncoached, or uncoachable. Kevie's record is getting worse. I love the guy to bits, but I don't want him as head coach.

Good points, symbolsoup. I'm not sure what Walters can add to the club. His record as a coach is fairly average. It's another reason why I doubt coaches like McGuire would make a difference. Having a superstar player like Inglis taints a coach's record.

Take Griffin, for example. His record with Lockyer is outstanding. Without him, not so much. I think a similar argument can be made with McGuire. How good would his win column be if he had to go without Inglis long-term? Probably no better than Hook's.

The Broncos have absolutely no clue in attack most of the time. The choice of who plays in the team and who is dropped on form is decided by Griffin. He has shown absolutely nothing in his tenure as head coach to suggest we have any clue of anything we do in attack. One-out footy. Bombs on last.

In 2011, the boys trained with Henjak all off-season, which meant all the structures that we had were what he implemented, not what Griffin implemented. If you look at articles, many people thought we'd have a huge year in 2011 under Henjak, and we did anyway.
2012 was Hooks chance. His chance to show his hand in how he planned the future for our club. He butchered it and since then nothing has changed imo. The only reason we're doing alright right now is cos Hunt is our only form of attack and he's much better than Wallace.

So they only get coached throughout the off season and then the coaches go on holidays for a while?

I think the game against the Knights in particular showed that we do have clues in attack, and it was'nt just because of Hunt. It was Barba. Also, our right edge looks very effective, and I can see signs of it being used.

However, the downside to this seems that it works, or might work in the future, is when Hoffman plays 5/8. The combinations are being embedded with him there, despite the problems.

For mine, Barba finding his play making skills, separate to his running game, has give us lots of clues.

The guy plays fullback at club level, and gets dumped in at 5/8 for a one off rep game

Harsh to judge him on that

Fullback to 5/8 is a transition - it takes time

Given his forwards gave him virtually nothing to work with, I thought he showed some very nice touches, especially given he hasn't been playing in that role for the past couple of seasons.

Lockyer wasn't an automatic success at 5/8 either. It took him a couple of years to really find his groove in that role, after moving from fullback. I think Milford will be just fine in the role, assuming we keep him...

You might need to keep posting that.

Big things are expected for Milford in 2015 at 5/8th for a lot of Broncos fans.

I hope he slots right in and does brilliantly, but it's more likely he will be an improvement over hoff, without being the Messiah

Hopefully he shines in 2016 and takes us to the GF
