Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Just watched the post game presser with Griffin. I dunno about anyone else, but I think he's looking a little haggard. Feeling the pressure at the club, maybe?

Who cares

I thought Griffin did well at the presser this week. I liked his response when asked about Barba's try. He was basically like well he's got one now so find something else to write about lol.

Guys, Hunt is killing it. He's got no real 5/8th to fall back on which honestly is perfect for him and the team. You're all constantly complaining about Hoffman at 5/8th but its working perfectly for this team. Griffin has a vision. A future plan. And its working, You're all too short sighted to notice it! Its forcing Hunt to be 100% committed throughout the 80mins to attack. Hook has touched on it before, Hunt tends to go quiet through periods of the game after showing signs of brilliance. With no one to hide behind, he is in charge. Soul responsibility....

Seriously, I can't even begin to comprehend how brilliant Hook's future vision has been. All hindsight sure, but give us a year or even two....I guarantee he will deliver us a premiership. I genuinely believe I can see the concepts falling into place that this "worst coach ever" has actually orchestrated. Take his NYC grand final appearance. Basically the side he has now...He's been building this team for the last three years. Without us really knowing it, we've been in a re-building stage as soon as we lost locky....let me explain...............

He always knew Hunt would become the halfback he's turning into at NRL level. I was with you all, hating on Wallace, wanting something great to come along in the halves since Locky.

I actually remember the day they announced Ben Hunt (before I really knew he was a genuine halfback), and just appalled we'd signed him on again. Then I found out about him winning player of the year for under 20's.....I thought, hang on, wtf?? Him?? A bench hooker who comes on and just passes the ball?? Contributes nothing?

The Ben Hunt I knew at this point in time, was during the days he ran on as bench hooker which infuriated me. I'd see Macca come off, him come on and be a wasted interchange. We then gave him a chance late last year when Wallace had finally convinced us all he was worth nothing but a high ball. No leadership, no creativity, pure crap. Ben Hunt started showing us signs that he could actually play footy. Watched him against Newcastle and NQ and I thought, wow, where has he been?! wtf hook, why hinder his development as a bench hooker?! Should have had him directing a team around in Q cup we all thought. Building confidence in a lower grade - we all agreed?

But...this year, especially Friday night...we saw what a fantastic defender he is. A small halfback like him. Tackling massive back and front rowers one on one! Including big Willie! watch the replay if you don't recall....what a display of ability and belief! I whole heatedly believe this defense has come from his time being blooded at hooker. Stick him in the thick of it. force him to make tackles constantly. You guys have just started touching on the mental toughness of this guy. Where do you think that came from?? Honestly? Probably sitting on the sidelines for most of the game watching a wanker like Wallace waste opportunities in the position he dreamed longingly to make his own. Don't you think, that once this guy got his chance at playing 7, after game upon game of waiting in the cold that he would make the most of it!? He is. And this is a mental and physical toughness I reckon we can commend the coach for. He wants his NYC grand final team that he had great success with.

Hunt at 7 means Macca is finally playing 80mins. He too is finally coming into his own as a hooker; fulfilling his potential. We've trimmed the fat in this team. Now we are building hard and fast into the future. Could you imagine if Ben Hunt was a NSW heritage player? I dare say his name would be popping up right now as a candidate for origin.

The same can be said for Jarod Wallace. What a game he had Friday night! Flew under the radar...but come origin time, wow he's going to be a revelation! And Oates. Wallace was offloading at will. Very dangerous! And you all criticised Hook's game plan there too....putting him on the bench and not using him at all for the first few rounds? Far out is it working! Means now, when he finally gets a run, he's making the most of it yall! Wow he has impressed me in both defense and the little touches he's had. Also having him not run on has seen the rest of the players lift. Fitness and intensity. They're playing a full 80 now. Last year, we all agreed fitness was a shortcoming. This year? Since Corvo has come on board...we are winning games with three bench players. Wow. What a forward thinking game plan that's been! Now, come origin, these bench guys like Oates and Wallace who are now starting to see more minutes, will really try to prove their worth when we have Hodges, Parker, Thaiday and Gillette out. I am tipping out best origin period yet!

What a year we will have next year if we continue to build on all this. WITH the addition of Milford. WOW

Hook, I tip and raise my hat. HEck, I even bow to that sh1t!

Oh boy, I hope you're right. It's certainly an interesting and optimistic way to look at the situation.

I thought to myself, hmmmm am i being too optimistic? or is it just faith in a coach who clearly is delivering and has made the right improvements where he needed. I think I'm seeing things very clearly now. As apposed to the rest of this forum which i confess i shared the same view for some time....just look at the forward thinking. Conscientious planning is what the board and Broncos CEO have noticed in Griffin's management, and ultimately saved his job through the recent tumultuous periods..

Well, it was really nice to read something optimistic for once! Whether you're right or not, time will tell, but I do know that as fans we only see the tip of the iceberg of what goes on at Red Hill. And I'd like to think that there's a very professional team running our club, who Hook's briefed extensively on his plans. So basically that they do have a good idea of where we're heading, and are all working hard to get it done.

Btw, I'm pretty sure one of us is about to get accused of being Hook ;-)

No doubt we are getting some benefits the way things have worked out but to suggest they have been part of some visionary plan on Hooks part is delusional.

He's been kissed on the helmet but good luck to him, he has long said 2015 was when he saw our premiership window though, so let's hope it keeps coming together for him.

if we won the premiership how much emotion do you guys think hook will show?

We can all be sure Kearney should never be head coach of the Broncos. With that in mind we need Hook to stay on for the remainder of the season, otherwise Kearney will get the job for the rest of the season. Clubs always get the assistant to be caretaker coach for the rest of the season after sacking a coach. A new full time coach never starts until the end of the current season.

And you are right, we don't know who will be better than Griffin until we try, but that doesn't mean we have to try with the first available candidate. There may be a better candidate to take a risk on than Walters. Thames we're saying is that we need to do a thorough search first.

Don't get me wrong, I would love Walters to have as successful coaching career with us as he did playing career. I just don't think we should rush into hiring a new coach without investigating all the options first.

If the board decide Walters is the best option, I will get behind him 100%

Sorry mate but after seeing what Kearney has done tonight with a bunch of NSW Cup players against one of the best Aussie teams ever, I have no problem with Kearney taking over from Griffin the muppet.

Kearney was given no chance against the Aussies. He took some risks on his selections and got within 10 minutes of a win against a superstar team.

And the Aussies were so fired up for it. I'm sure Kevin Rudd is a Broncos member and went to a game once, seeing what he did in his first day as PM, we should make him coach.

Choosing club coaches based on one off test coaching... this will go well. We will just disregard the parramatta years shall we?

I'll credit his selections for paying off. I was pretty dubious, but they did well out there.

From a coaching standpoint though, they seemed to lack direction / finesse in attack. Made easy metres, got quick play the balls, but couldn't finish it off.

Highly doubt he could replicate that effort. Would like to see how they'd have done with Foran, at the very least though.

Club wise, I don't think he's any better than Griffin.

kearney picked players on form and i commend him for that. i never thought it was a poorly selected team, as JWH was the only player left out who probably should/would of been there. SKD is crap, and rumour is matai doesnt want anything to do with NZ. the rest of their players were injured.

but harris as 5/8 was a broncos esque selection which gifted morris two tries has harris had no interest in sliding, fi forcing his centre and wing to come in field on both occasions.

should of had the balls to play john from the kick off.

regardless, with only 1 nrl quality half, their attack looked extremely flat and they lacked a bit of direction. bit similar to the broncos really. though their gameplan was simple and they didnt have alot of time together so maybe u can excuse them for htat.

the unavoidable fact is that they really needed foran, and they may of won if they had him.

"We'll move on. The football team's in good shape, we're playing with a great attitude we're just on the wrong side of the bouncing ball at the moment," coach Anthony Griffin said. "Our general effort and the way we went about our game was terrific."

Read that in Big League today...

And we missed 33 tackles.

And we cannot get a repeat set of six to save our lives.

And we cannot complete a set of six after scoring, ever.

And we cannot convert our tries despite being completely professional and having expert skills coaches in all facets of the game. (sic by Paul White).

And we cannot control a game through effective kicking.

And the list goes on...

Er, except the more the years go by, the less success we are having. The more of that U20's team (the one that didn't have success because, you know it actually LOST the GF) is moving away from this team.

3 forwards and 3 backs is all that remains of that team in the current Broncos starting 17 and as Hoffman will likely move on (especially if half the rumours about signed players for the Broncs are true) this theory is getting even shakier.

A premiership window in 2015? Not without Milford or some other genuine 5/8. Not with the current props we have, not with our arguably best player (Hodges) out for most of each season, not with the gameplans our 'wunder' coach has been running with and not with our defence and error / penalty counts the way they've been (and unfortunately they seem to be getting worse, not better).

We are doing no better this year than last results wise, despite a significant change in playing talent. Is there cause for optimism with this group? Yes, we have more points in us and as defence is mostly attitude, commitment and fitness these things can potentially be addressed.

Will they be addressed by a coaching group who has been unable to address them for 3 years already? Time will tell, but I am NOT optimistic about that.

I'm no fan off Kearney but I think he willing to make the tough.calls did he drop sandow not sure but I reacon with our team he do a hell of a lot better than griffin
