Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Re: New coach

So far this year we have put to rest the post origin myth, unless we're still in it from last year.

Hook has a low risk approach to how he coaches, no mistakes, field position, get inside 20 then see if you can score. All, good fundamentals of the game, but,

this ends up being a high risk approach because there are always variables which he can't control. There will always be mistakes from players particularly forced errors from impact which are more likely with our one out style.

Ref errors come into it at some point in most games, the other teams mistakes can't be controlled. When our forwards do happen to get their hands free there's nobody there as second phase because we don't play for it.
Our forwards tire quickly because of the one out rucking.

He thinks he is playing low risk footy when in fact IMO we have a higher risk of losing.
The only way this method works is if you have a dominant half with vision who the whole team will play off.

Re: New coach

I believe in the saying "if you do the same things you'll get the same results" ... If you're content with the crap football the broncos play under Griffin, stick with Griffin..

Personally I don't think it'd matter who the coach is with the current roster.

Outside of Hodges, I can't think of one player who I would class as a real attacking weapon. Maybe Gillett from a few years ago?

Re: New coach

I just wish we would get back to playing positive football, this negative grind it out football clearly isn't working (especially when the players clearly don't want to be in the grind) and above all its just plain bat crap boring to watch.

You would be amazed what a difference it makes when a team (in any professional sport) believes in and respects its coach 100%. Sure this broncos group probably couldn't win the comp under anyone but they could play much better football and give themselves a much better chance of winning more games than they have under Griifin..

Just take a look at the footballthebroncos were playing in the early rounds of last season.. Clearly things within the playing group have deteriorated significantly since then, the relationship between coach and players has changed

I'm more worried about the fact that we've received the most penalties by a long way in the comp this year and our attack is close to the worst in the comp this year.. that just makes it even worse, imagine if we were getting shit calls against us

I agree with you to an extent but if Griffin does get the punt i just hope that the current squad is not given a free pass into next season with Griffin taking all the blame. I personally believe that our playing roster needs a shakeup.

As a club, i think should we get rid of Griffin we are situationally similar to where Penrith were with the removal of Elliott and the arrival of Cleary. They got rid of club favourites who had been there for years like Lewis, Jennings and Gordon but had not achieved results and replaced them with some solid first graders in Manu and Brown and a few younger up and comers like Segeyaro and Whare and continued to rebuild next year with Soward and Taylor.
My point is they did not expect Cleary to perform with the current squad, they realised it was both a coach and player group issue.

I wouldnt be upset if a new coach was appointed and similar situation happened and got rid of the likes of Macca, Wallace, hell even Thaiday if it meant a plan was in place to break the current mold.

What I'd like to see is the new coach sign on the assumption that every player contract is effectively void and to be renegotiated. I don't want players thinking they have a free pass. They already feel that way.

Out: Wallace, Macca, Norman

After the effort from him last night Prince can stay, there is no denying he gave it a solid shot.

The season is a write off almost so let's test out Kahu at fullback, if he shows nothing in 6 weeks bang on the Bulldogs door for Barba or ring the Dragons and ask what their plan for Beale is.
Hunt/Prince left in the halves with Locky working overtime with Hunt and give him 6 weeks as well to show his stuff.
Granville can get his fitness up and go the full 80 at Hooker.
Hoffman/Hodges as the centre pairing, Give Maranta and Kemp 6 weeks outside those 2 to show their worth.
Reed can find the holes and knows when to pass it, bench him and bring him on for Gillette or Glenn either side of the half.

It's all good to look at replacements outside of the club but they need to actually be available and interested in joining the Broncos, which nobody seems to want to anymore. So we need to get the most out of the guys at the club while making it clear Brisbane are willing to talk to other players. None of this "we are happy with the players we have" crap, don't reassure the guys that they are safe. Scare the **** out of them and make them play out their skin.

Still don't understand the Wallace hate. Norman wasn't horrible last night, he's just weak as piss.

Macca has been useless for quite some time. You know, the fact the useless prick still can't play 80 minutes as a professional football player?

As I posted before - Hook is not the only one to take responsibility.

Each and every NRL player knows the ropes or they wouldn't have got this far. Trouble is, they don't put in 110% and the ropes have become a noose.

This is the Broncos FFS! Have some pride and show it where it counts.

It's not that we can't score great tries - we have many this year - it's just lack of consistency

The major problem is pathetic line speed in defence and ineffective tackling which is all about attitude and technique

Hook does have a responsibility, yes, as does the whole coaching staff, but so do the fucking players - like playing for each other and this proud fantastic tradition the Broncos have

That tradition left with Bennett. It's gone, people need to move on from Brisbane being the NRL's glory club. We're not, we're fucking shit now.

It's not glory - it's pride in your club and its proud tradition.

IMO, Bennett has nothing to do with our current form, in fact in some ways, he has contributed to it, or lack of it

I think you make some good points draggx. I think Hannant, Gillett, Thaiday, Hodges should be moved on, they are not worth persisting with. If Glenn keeps up his poor performance you can throw him into that list as well.

I totally disagree with that. Our biggest problem is by far our defence and its consistency. This is not just about last night's game (which I didn't see), but most games we lost were on the back of lack of a loss of line speed and concentration for at least a part of the game. In some we got away, in others, the likes of Manly, Souffs and Storm punished us.

I actually like what I've seen in most games when it comes to attack tbh. We have scored quite a few pretty awesome tries this season.

There is a big problem with our players when it comes to the mental approach to games. The big ones like Storm, Cows or Tits seem to present no problem, but we have been consistently shit with the likes of Eels, Tigers, now Warriors and even the Dogs... Seems like there is not enough hunger in them, and that is the most urgent issue we need to deal with!

from our current squad the only players that i would be keeping are:

Dale Copley (give him another year, hes shown to be improving)
Alex Glenn
Jake Granville
David Hala (but get him on the treadmill, needs to be able to play 40 minutes at least)
Ben Hannant
Josh Hoffman
Ben Hunt (needs to be given a starting half spot for a season)
Jordan Kahu (get him off the wing, he doesnt get involved out there)
Josh McGuire
Corey Parker
Scott Prince (only until we can buy a top class half, which we need to AGGRESSIVELY pursue)
Jack Reed (until we can buy a top class centre)
Jharal Yow Yeh

get rid of the rest. we could replace the rest with any Q-Cup nuffies and theyd do the same job. that gives us a decent base to work with for the future if you ask me. couple of good work rate props, hooker, couple of second rowers, couple of wingers/centres/fullbacks, 1 experienced half and 1 unproven.

Gillett dropped?
Drop our captain?
Drop the best centre we currently have?

No.

After last night's showing, you want to move on our best players? WTF? :scared:

And draggx... Wallace has to go, but Prince can stay because he gave it a solid shot. Really, you don't see the contradiction in that?
