Sam Thaiday

I would think because the Dally's are individual awards

They are, but surely having a team of good players helps you look better also. Would Slater really be as good as he is if Cronk didn't do pin point kicks to him, Smith didn't control the ruck so much etc.

It's harder for Melbourne players to get it anyway because they're competing for points with other great players in their team.

Yeah, I did think about that, but I was (although not quite clear) also refering to Dally M position awards ie. Cronk winning halfback of the year, Inglis centre of the year etc. When it came to these, I'd much rather have good players around me. Inglis would be useless if he wasn't gettign good service from Smith and Cronk etc.

Anyway, probably the wrong thread for it .....

Dally M winners from the forwards:
2006: Cam Smith (hooker)
2004: Danny Buderus (hooker)
1989: Gavin Miller (second row)
1982: Ray Price (lock)

So yes it'd be a remarkable achievement if Sam won the award this year. First back rower for 21 years!

I've been saying since late 2005 that Thaiday is the man. [icon_wink

Glad to see he's getting some recognition from the media now.

you and me both bro! well for me week 3 2006, hes been my fave player ever since.

Represent!

Earlier in the season he was a shinning light in a pretty poor team. Now he's absolutely standing out in a very confident team - it's great to see! It's going to be hard to catch Boyd, but if he continues his form he's a big chance.

I've said Sam can pretty much have his way with me whenever he likes since 1836.

So because Issac Luke was suspended does that mean he loses Dally M points? That would make Thaiday outright 2nd on the ladder!!

that would also depend on how many points Luke took for the Cowboys match, because that table came before Luke had played.

Yes, I believe the rule is you lose 3 Dally M points for every week you are suspended. However, as Foordy says, if he got 3 for the Cowboys game then the ladder won't change.

Was he playing for the Clydesdales?

Because his first game for the Broncos came in Round 5 vs. the Rabbitohs...and he was impressive!

I still like the old system where if you got suspended you were ineligible for the Dally M

That's what AFL do for the Brownlow medal isn't it?

Yeah, but that prevented Andrew Johns winning it one year so they changed the rules

Honestly losing points for missing a game is ridiculous, considering he can't earn them this week.

i disagree, under most best and fairest awards he would now be ineligible to win it because he got suspended...
