Seibold General Discussion

Joffa I definitely agree with, TPJ is worth utilising some patience with.

TPJ worries me with his discipline, nothing else. Almost 24 and if anything his discipline gets worse by the year. He just doesnt seem to learn.

Yeah, I’m with you, but at $500k he offers a hell of a lot more than Offa. If he can’t sort out his discipline next year, let him go.

Isnt TPJ on more like the 650k-700k mark?

Pats contract was virtually tied up while Bennett was here. I think we could have managed comfortably without Joffa and TPJ at the prices we kept them on at. TPJ despite his talent is a liability.

$500K for a young Origin / International prop is fine. The only reason the Joffa deal seems like overkill is because of how good Haas & Lodge went, it's still not a bad contract.

Same deal with TPJ, he was looking for $1m at the start of the season, we signed him for considerably less than that (Probably primarily because of his discipline), once again, not an overpay.

If the situation arises where Ofahengaue & TPJ are surplus to needs, those contracts will be extremely easy to hand off to another club, something that Bennett didn't really give us a chance to do, every player we're looking to move on that Bennett signed is always followed by the question "I wonder how much we'd have to chip in to get rid of them"

I'm not convinced either were good deals when we have others we needed to keep which is why i dont think our retention has been that great. Fifita is more valuable to us than either, and so is a better 7 and 1. We could have managed comfortably imo without either Joffa or TPJ. If they fail anyway, we wont be able to get rid of them without chipping in because their stock has dropped. And as you well know, Its not all down to Bennett or Seibs anyway. There are others involved who are accountable and need to be made accountable. Maybe we need to take a good look at some of the decision makers who are away from the spotlight as to why our standards are dropping.

I moved all of the Seibold/Bennett discussion from today in to here. I also deleted 16 posts which were completely irrelevent and/or were just insulting another member. Consider this a warning to all involved, if you guys start this debate up again in any threads except this one, punishments are going to start being dished out, everyone is extremely tired of it. Thanks.

Premiership threat 2015-2018.
2019 laughing stock of the comp, and throw in captain-cripple and his trusty snail kick at hooker.

We have gone backwards, even our wins (except against the Sharks and Roosters) were all poor showings while the losses were diabolical. Picked up a low feat too in a semi of 58-0.
Maybe @broncsgoat is calling out mediocrity and the majority see it as trolling.

I hated Wayne for continuously picking an injured Boyd and now am hating on Seibold for still picking those two plodders. Maybe they are great off the field, trainers or mentors or whatever...but FFS BOYD and McC don't deserve to be in 1st grade 2020 Round 1 and beyond, weighing this football team down long enough!!

How good did seibolds coaching go this year
Pretty decent. In his first year he started digging into the rot left behind and clearing the dead wood. Some of that wood though is still hanging around riddled with termites. Rebuild is happening... When it's rebuilt with decent foundations now the house will no longer rock in the slightest of September breezes

Mediocre 2016-2018.

2016 5th [15-9]
2017 3rd [16-8]
2018 6th [15-9]

I wonder how you'd rate the 2019 [11-12] season if 15 wins is mediocre?

And I get accused of being a troll.

I have attempted to make this point before and they just brush past it mate

The results don't adequately explain how crap we were. How inconsistent. How many wins we fluked.

You need to accept the inconsistency of this year was inevitable. If Wayne had got things rolling earlier - it would have been last year. We needed a rebuild/clean out in 2017, but Wayne decided to just keep chugging, and it didn't work out.

If we perform this way next year, believe me, everyone will be on your side.

No it went drug cheats, and then three years of salary cap cheats that won in those years

lol fair. But we beat cap cheats once before.

You really think that's trolling..... I'm genuinely impressed by his ability to make some tough calls and have been able to read between the lines on certain other calls he was told he couldn't make by other people at the club... But now he can.

Only criticism of his handling of his first year is how he has handled the media. Wayne is very clearly under his skin and he needs to do better at being clever when the mics are on. But I do think he did a fantastic job first year for the mess he unknowingly walked into

2015 - Made the GF
2016 - Knocked out in week 2
2017 - Knocked out in week 3
2018 - Knocked out in week 1
2019 - Knocked out in week 1

Teams of the calibre of the Broncos should have 3 goals when starting a season -

1) Make the Finals
2) Make the Grand Final
3) Win the Grand Final

Every season post-2015 only accomplished step 1 of those goals, we should view them as equal failures. Getting hung up on the regular season win/loss record is pretty arbitrary, there's so many factors that can contribute to your record, i.e - injuries, suspensions, personal departures / additions, the draw (we had comfortably the hardest draw in the NRL this season according to the algorithm Fox Sports used), Origin mental / physical toll, etc, among so many other things.

I have a reasonable amount of confidence that our record will be better in 2020, and that we're going to make it further than week 1 of the finals. If one of those things doesn't happen, we can start worrying about Seibold as a coach. Because in reality, at the moment, he's dead even with Bennett in terms of the Broncos performances in the finals in the last 2 seasons, absolutely piss poor.

we were inconsistent last year as well, playing well against good teams (sans storm) and poorly against bad teams. Despite my protestations to begin the season I had hoped we would improve we didn’t.

perhaps you’re right and we needed a clean out earlier. I’ve said it before that I feel like last year was a bit of a holding pattern for the coaches plans, he knew what we had coming through, (haas, Fifita, dearden) and was just making do. It’s why the extension was fought for and unfortunately (imo) not realised.

could just be conjecture of course
