NEWS Selection dilemma: Anthony Seibold facing crucial Broncos call

I might be wrong, or maybe I am hearing things, but why is there this constant speculation that Boyd will go to centre and Dearden and/or SOS will go to the halves, or Turps to the bench, when the only thing I have heard Seibold state clearly and publicly is that Boyd will play 6 and Turps 7 for the foreseeable future.

As I understand it, we will have Boyd and Turps in the halves for the rest of the year (sadly) with the inevitable consequences to our attack : shovel the ball to the nearest prop or 2, and then hoick the bomb on the 5th ... YAWN

Pretty sure there was something mentioned in the cowboys post match press conference about Boyd and turpin doing a job while deardon and Sean O'Sullivan were injured with regards to the shithouse attack that game, could be wrong tho.

Yeah Siebs said Boyd and Turps will be the halves UNTIL the other guys return. This has been NRL-media style retconned into they are the halves for the rest of the year.

Can I just say something in defense of Boyd too?

He has achieved greatness this year in a way I never thought was possible. He has managed to unite basicallt all Broncos fans, media and other club fans like never before. No one other than Broncos-related staff think he should be in the spine, let alone the team. Kudos to him for such a ground-breaking achievement.

I can recall the Cowboys presser where Seibs says that Darius and Turps are still "learning their roles" ... I assume he means as halves. Seems pretty clear to me. Also I think Seibs referred to them being our regular halves elsewhere however I can't remember where.

In the Round 19 and 20 pressers, Seibs was asked about Dearden's likely return and he really didn't want to know about it, saying something like Tom is only 18 and has played 4 NRL games ...

In any case, let's see who are halves will be for the Panthers game. Hope to see Dearden and/or SOS although somehow I doubt it. Hope I am wrong. Again, I have no idea where this stuff about Boyd going to centre has come from, other than wishful thinking.

Was it 'job' centre perhaps?

Darren Lockyer said that centre was the best position for girld going forward in an article either last week or week before.

Seibold also continues to state that Darius is enjoying the "challenge" and only ever really mentions the challenge as defending in the line.

Whenever he talks about Boyd it's only in relation to defending in the line and he has mentioned whether that be at five eight or center.

He also mentions just about everytime he has to be there right now for the team... he says the same about Milf ie. right now fullback is the best spot for him.

Will it happen this week I'm not sure, but I don't see Boyd seeing the year out at 6

Boyd to centre would be good, although it denies Herbie a shot at a position he deserves.

Watch Munster, Keary, Wighton, Walker, Maloney even, play 5/8, then revisit Boyd's performances at 5/8, and you can see why this side is going to fall over against the better teams.

Once All our Half options are able to play thats when we will probably see what is going to be happening to Boyd, he very much looks like a placeholder, Seibold surely doesn't think him staying there is even a remotely good idea.

I would like to See atleast one game with Dearden at 7 and Turps at 6 and see how that goes though.

i don't reckon that will happen.... Seibold is a weak prick so it might but we are low at centre so boyd might move there than segeyaro to q-cup and turpin to the bench and slot SOS and Dearden into the halves

So, in your world, Siebs moves on James Roberts (a highly paid Origin class centre), moves on KNik because KNik sees himself as a 7 and Siebs sees him as a 14, moves our highest paid player back to his original position of fullback after the club has spent 5 years trying to transform him into a 6, and moves the Captain out of fullback who has been concreted into that position and nobody ever thought he would be moved, ever - and that makes Siebs a weak prick?

That'll do me

Buzz Rothfield was the one who was saying it on 360. He may of done a write up also, not sure. It is obvious Seibs has told him to find a key spot for him and presumably told it's his job to get him playing well. From memory it was about the money invested. They dont want 800k in qcup. Pathetic from the board if true.

Hasn’t stopped the West Tigers keeping $800k Josh Reynolds in reserve grade and playing the half the price Benji at 6.

Who would have thought that picking the more in form player who gives you the greatest chance of winning regardless of contract value would be such a good idea?!?

Either our board or Seibold is taking the absolute piss. The sooner we find out which party is culpable, the sooner we can rip down this protective barrier they have put on Darius.

Reynolds is not a highly respected captain (by the playing group) dropping Boyd would cause massive moral issues with the playing group. and if you though our season hasn't been up to scratch ... wait until you lower the morale of the entire team.

our best bet is to move him to center ... we just need to get some halves back on deck and give them some playing time.

maybe people should use the same justification for Seibs sticking with Boyd/Turps as they did for Bennett sticking with Nikorima in the halves ... winning %. in fact as a halves pairing the have only lost 1 match to a Storm side that has only lost 3 times all year

If you’re honest you’ll acknowledge this is bullshit

Are you joking? A squad with an ageing geriatric fullback, a ball running halfback, a fullback playing five-eighth and a hooker who is past his used by date.

Yeah we made the finals with that squad but did we really have an impact? No.

Shit may be an exaggeration, but it was f*cking mediocre

How about everyone STOP blaming Bennett for everything. Getting just as bad as Knights fans who continue to blame Bennett for being on this earth because they think he fucked them up instead of Tinkler. He didn't leave this squad in a mess as some clueless idiots think as the broncos got rid of him because they thought he couldn't win a premiership and Seibold is supposed to bring that bit of polish to finish the job.

Except for that time he did leave this squad in a mess.

there is a big bloody difference ... Knights fans are blaming Bennett 6 years on and 2 coaches since Bennett left ... plenty of time to fix a squad.

Some Broncos fans are blaming Bennett the year immediately after he left with a brand new coach needing to get rid of big money long term deals to a player who is past it (Boyd) and a player who has never been more than mediocre (Macca)
