NEWS Selection dilemma: Anthony Seibold facing crucial Broncos call

This is right though, Siebs didn't a rubbsh squad, he inherited a rubbish spine.
I was about to agree with this but I don't know if it's really fair to the players. Boyd is obviously busted this year but I don't know that Macca is rubbish. He's not as dynamic as we'd like but I'd be thinking more serviceable than rubbish. Niko was hit and miss, not really a halfback but again probably not rubbish. Milf I don't think was rubbish at all, he was our player of the year in 2018.

Mate, that’s 1.5 out of four. Not enough to excel.

Look at the Rorters, Teddy, Keary, Cronk and Friend. Or the Storm. We were no chance.
I didn't say they were excellent, just using too many words to say they weren't rubbish either.

Ill take Boyd at centre over shibasaki
Put Turpin back on the bench and run sos and Dearden as the halves
We won’t beat another team this year on the back of what we threw up against the cowboys with the halves combination

So the reward turpin gets for being one of our best players is back to the bench? Which also means segeyaro gets dropped as well. This is all to make way for Macca.

Any squad that has Darius Boyd and Macca in it is a shit squad. Especially if Boyd is your captain.

So put Boyd and Macca into the roosters squad and they’re shit?

Haha on second thought maybe I went too far. They don't make us shit but fark me they are some dead weight.

Swap Boyd for teddy and the Roosters would be a far inferior side. But no, they would not be shit. Their shit ***** but 👍

Hyperbole can get the best of us sometimes.

How have those blokes gone this year?
Sorry I missed this post

Haas and Fifita are probably the two best u20 players in their position the game has ever seen.

Oates has been up and down, more frequently down of late

Gillett - nuff said

Ofa- thrived in origin, struggling under seibust

No hold on, don't backpedal so quickly.

You swap Tedesco for Boyd and the Roosters are nowhere near the side they are at present. Friend is basically a slightly better version of Macca and incidentally, look how much the Roosters miss him when he isn't in...like nothing at all.

What the Roosters also have is Keary and Cronk in the other positions, two Australian rep (and one a legend) halves to help compensate. The Broncs had neither. I don't count KNik as who else was there to play halfback when he was chosen?

Seibold inherited a shit squad, lets be honest. Judge him in 12-18 months time, when he can get his own squad together. If Wayne couldnt win a title with Boyd at 1 and Macca at 9 then how can Seibold?

Though I do agree that Seibold needs to make some harsh calls and drop a few players.
Let's look at that shit squad shall we? We had in the front 3, McGuire, lodge, and offs. Theres 2 origin and a likely origin there. Our second row was gillet and glen, both internationals, our hooker has played origin. Our halves (our weakness) we're Milford (origin) and knik
(international). We had Boyd (international). Oates and Kahu (internationals) and Roberts and bird (origin). That's not to mention some of hottest young talent in the NRL to back them up.
Some of those players have continued to hold two honours, other merely first grade spots. None of them have retired or been unable to play regularly.
My point is there was a strong squad and even letting go who we have continues to be a strong squad. What is missing is the cohesion to make it gel and injuries. One is bad luck, the other a combination of bad form and poor tactics.
One thing is certain blaming the past coach rings pretty hollow, especially when that squad was placed higher last season and was tipped to be higher this one.
Siebold may not have been able to achieve that success expected, changing the squad the way he has, in the hopes of long term success. And his approach may bear fruit but our current position is squarely on his shoulders, and is the sacrifice we as fans are expected to suffer with patience until his long term success starts coming.
His future is dependent on it showing signs of happening sooner rather than later.

The squad wasn’t (and isn’t) shit. But anyone who’s looking at our matches with even the slightest attention could point out our deficiencies and problems coming into another season, regardless of the coach.

Now don’t get me wrong, the coach, or should I say coaching style, has been an issue for years, along with the lack of options in certain positions, with some other players phoning it in a bit and the apparent squad issues with guys like McGuire/a bit of a split in the squad imo but overall the team wasn’t shit.

But it was indicative of Wayne’s second stint here since 2016: good enough to be mostly better than 8-10 teams, but not good enough to legitimately challenge because of those issues.

So coming into this season, I have no idea why anyone thought we’d be a top 4 certainty. Couple what I said above with a having pretty raw coach, needing to alter the squad/attitudes/everything, however small, to his way of coaching along with some pretty bad form regressions, injuries that came after moving on players and relying on subpar replacements and it was never going to be easy.

TL;DR the squad wasn’t shit, but also wasn’t going to do anything better than it had for the previous 3 seasons

A premiership force we are not, I would actually prefer us to be no chance of making the 8 so we could focus on fielding a team for a few games that is likely to take the park in round 1, 2020 instead of persisting with several players out of position and carrying dead wood.

I was willing to think that Siebs could be given at least 12 months to show his quality, but as the season has dragged on, my opinion of him just continues to drown. He needs to make some HARSH calls and a few games out from the end of the year is the best time to do it. Drop macca, darbs and even gillette (he's getting picked on reputation alone at this point when he isnt injured), throw in what we have, even if its new blood and just give them some time to learn. Give the c to Glenn. It literally cannot be any worse than the shit show this year has been.
We'll probably have the last two games of the season for testing purposes. I hope we don't of course because unlike yourself I want at least one more week of hope!! I see your point though and testing out new combinations would be good. If we can't qualify I'd love to see McCullough and Boyd, Oates, forget that I , I say rest all the old squad. Glenn, Gillett, Milf etc. Give them all an early mark and run with some new blood for a couple of meaningless games. Tagatese to 5/8, Fensom into half..nah, kidding.

I'm going to catch flak for suggesting Isaako as a 5/8 but there it is. Big enough, nice pass (one recently I saw was as precise as is possible) and I have no doubt he could kick any of the shapes possible. Before telling me why it can't work I'd be countering with 'he'd have to offer more than DB in the same position'. I'd reckon he'd give it a real crack.

I don't know how much you understand corporate governance, but as a director, it would be inappropriate for Lockyer to come out and do what you are saying in a public article, hence him doing it the way he is. As both a director of the club, and a media personality he has to tread a fine line in fulfilling both roles. We simply do not know what is being said to Boyd in private (if anything)?
Then he shouldn’t do both. Either the media or the board, and either way, be honest about what’s best for the club.
