theyre going to have to though.

they NEED to register 25 players, each on a minimum of something like $60k iirc. so say Inglis is on 500k, they drop him but they need to replace him with someone on $60k minimum. so while theyre dropping 500k from their cap, theyre then adding at least $60k back on. half of their team cant be on more than $150k each anyway, since half of them are no-names, so losing them means theyre not going to save much money. theyd have to basically drop every one of the other 21 players and hire new rookies to get under the cap while keeping their main 4, and that wont happen.

I dunno, Billy is "hoping the team can stay together"

+1.
Two of the storm big 4 added to our team would make a HUGEEE difference to us.
Seriously Smith won't leave IMO. So it's either Cronk, Slater or Inglis. Two of those 3 in our team = win.

we can't really afford 2 of them otheriwse we would then be cheating the cap!!

I think there is a fiar bit of deadwood we could cut loose from our club dude. That may well free up the cap enough for us to get the players we need. I still would like us to get Hannant back as well, so that will probably restrict us to 1 most likely.

I still think Cronk is the one we should target as well.

Cronk, Slater or Inglis, any one of them would add soooo much to our team so I'll happily take any one of them, two of them would be amazing.

That is true, Hannant is a must I just hope we don;t have to pay him 450k

I thought I read this week we were $300k under the cap with PJ Marsh and Clinton gone (not sure if either still counts for this year?) and with Folau going that would free up another $200-300k at least.

If we really are $300k under the cap with a further $600k out injured then it's no wonder we're doing so poorly at present.

i know not many would agree, but if it was up to me i would be releasing Hodges if it meant we had a chance at inglis/slater.

lets face it, both are better players than Hodges, and Hodges would be lucky to be on the field for 10 games a season over the last 5-6 years.

If Hodges asked for a release yep let him go, but as for telling him to go I think that is a bit much. Also I'd prefer Inglis and Cronk thanks!!

this basically means theyre going to have to offload 3 of their 'big 4'.

if we release Sims, Setu, Michaels, Wallace, and then factor in Lockyer leaving after next year (although hopefully sooner), and add in the huge sums of money we didnt spend this year in our salary cap, we can EASILY nab 2 of them, and boy oh boy do we need to.

Couldn't agree more bud - Smith, as Storm captain won't be leaving (we don't want him anyway as McCullough is gonna turn out great) so grabbing 1 or 2 of either Slater, Cronk or Inglis would be fantastic. Let's face it, Hodges is close to being on his last legs as a result of all his injuries over recent years and a final stint in the English comp is where he needs to head. Inglis will more than cover him, and with either Slater or Cronk in the team creating something from nothing, we would be in a great position for future years (with the blooding of all the youngins and hopefully Hannant being signed also).

I mean, come on, who in the current Broncos team has the ability to create a try from nothing? Lockyer used to be able to do that, but rarely anymore. Wallace, great defender but about as dangerous in attack as a drunk grandmother...

that would be my ideal signings too, i was more thinking that we DEFINITELY make a play for cronk, and then IF it would give us enough cash for inglis or slater, tell hodges his services are no longer needed.

Cronk is who we need the most. im unsure who we need more out of slater and inglis. inglis would replace hodges or folau and then some, but with our fullback position under a cloud, Slater would solve that problem straight up.

slater + cronk would lock down 2 of the important 3 positions on the field (1,7,9), whereas inglis + cronk would only lock down 1 of them, but give us an absolute weapon in the backline (not that slater already wouldnt, but inglis is a much better attacker against a set defence).

I think Cronk and SMith are the most likely to stay at the Storm though. Inglis would be really good we have no left centre we haven't had one for years. Slater well as gooas he is I'd hate to see him in a Broncos jersey. Our young fullback options will get the job done, They can only get better. Cronk would be the best buy!!

I'd love any of the 4... But I don't think we will get any of them...

Sure, we have "heaps" of room in the cap, but we don't have nearly enough to compete with Union or AFL who both have interest in Slater and Inglis...

These 2 also have ready made profiles in Melbourne (perfect for Rebels and/or AFL) and are probably most suited to both the other codes...

If the Storm get rid of these 2 and replace them with rookies, they will be under the cap... Smith and Cronk stay put (which they have both stated they want to)...

The reality is that the cap is the problem.... it is too low... well, atleast compared to what is available in other sports... the real problem is that professional sports people world wide are paid at a grossly inflated rates and the NRL (well, atleast some clubs) just can not compete...

I think we could convince Smith to come here. The whole QLD thing.

I agree and I'm one of his biggest fans.
Justin is too injury prone and is nearing the end of his useful career while the Storm fellas all have plenty of years left in them and are rarely injured.

Agree with AP that releasing Hodges, the broken crock, would be a good move if it meant getting Slater and Inglis.

And I'd be more than happy to swap Wallace for Cronk too.

I really don't want the Broncos to turn in the Storm 2.0 - lets get Bellamy in to coach and get Waldron to run the books while we're at it!

We don't need to buy every Melbourne player there is! I get trying to buy Inglis, maybe Smith (I doubt he'll go) or Crock, but not the whole damn team? Play for Boyd, Hannant, Civi, but seriously, what's next, should we make our away strip purple?

Sorry Greg I love you, you have an awesome fend regardless of how you use it!!
