It's his voice more than anything - it doesn't carry well as a commentator

I think it's the fact he's an AFL Footy Show panelist and club president (Which one, North Melbourne?). He sounds more like an AFL commentator than a cricket commentator. Not sure how to quantify it, but there's a way they speak in the respective codes.

It's just like years ago, maybe 15 years ago now, that Peter Sterling and Paul Vautin did a few stints commentating cricket. It seriously didn't work.
At least Brayshaw had a first class cricket background.

Absolutely. It's a slap in the face to Richie Benaud that Brayshaw is in Test cricket commentary. It was bad enough that he was calling 20/20.
So outrageous when he inspects the pitch. He has about 1% of the authority that Tony Grieg carries.
