That was the biggest rort in Origin history

Yeah. Wasn't a kick. He was lucky to drop it on his foot. But, fair try under the rules, so all is well.

Does there have to be the intention there to kick it? Similar to what there is with a field goal? I.e the gillett field goal from a few months back.

That's the only thing I wasn't sure on.

I think in rugby if you lose the ball and it happens to hit your foot on the way down they still call it as a knock on. In league we're happy to let it go (which makes sense IMO). Not sure about the field goal thing.

Field goal is different because the ball is dropped to the ground without intent and then kicked. To be a field goal it has to be a deliberate action. And before AP comes roaring in here, it doesn't say that in the rule book explicitly, but that's how it is judged and has been judged for 104 years.

While I don't like that you can lose the ball and then toe it ahead, under the rules it's legit so fair try.

Its a grey area, because so many times a player will drop the ball and it will hit his legs on the way down before hitting the ground and theres never any question when they call knock on. I guess the only difference here is that thurston MAY have raked it?

Thurston did rake it. That was the whole basis of the ruling I believe. And there is no "May" about it. He had a good go at it.

Yeh, i thought so too. I have no problem with the try at all, im just saying id like to know what happened if they ruled thurston didnt rake it and hayne just lost it cold before kicking it.

I reckon Jennings lost it forward into Tate before Tate even caught the ball so it should've been a scrum to QLD on the 10m line. Sigh.

We were crap though and deserved to lose....the thing is we weren't crap because we weren't prepared to play, unlike NSW in 2006.

Game 3 will be interesting. Hope they stick with Pearce. muwahaha.

QLD lost because they made too many errors. It's that simple. Don't need massive personnel changes. Don't need massive change in tactics. Just need to execute better. Easy as that.

Agree that we made too many errors. We had 12 incomplete sets i think it was. You cant expect to win with that.

But the thing u, porthoz and beads dont understand is that we arent blaming civo or gillet for the loss, but we are saying there are better options, so why not use them. Its not a matter of he was shit, sack him, its more that we have teo and mcguire waiting to play who are in better form and much more suited to stopping the way nsw play.

Agreed, however for the first time in a fair while i think it was actually the pressure that NSW applied that caused the mistrakes and poor play, as opposed to QLD just not turning up.

No doubt about that. As Gould said in commentary, it was the aggression NSW had in defence, and they were hitting the right man at the right time. Thurston needs time, and he didn't get any. Heaven forbid it might be time to try getting deeper to counter that fast line speed of NSW?

Gillett, like I've said, I have no problem with dropping. He's a rookie, and in both games he's been below par. So definitely look for a better option.

But Civoniceva deserves to stay, deserves to go out in the decider, for defeat or glory. I'd be disappointed in QLD if they didn't. It would not be in the QLD spirit to drop him just because we're worried about losing. McGuire is champing at the bit to get a go, I agree. And he would do the job. But Petero hasn't done enough to play himself OUT of the team.

From a NSW side, I'd much prefer McGuire. He's young, he'd be on debut, he'd be hell nervous, he's known to do some silly things at times under pressure....Petero on the other hand is a rock in all departments, while he probably won't make as many hit ups and he won't have the impact that McGuire will, I doubt he'll do anything stupid. Big game experience. Throw a rookie front rower in a decider unnecessarily? Yes please! Do it!

^^^ This. I rarely agree with Rocky at Origin time, but definitely this. McGuire will get his chance. Next year.

Yeh and i realise that there is no way civo will be dropped. he does deserve to go out a winner as he has been monumental for qld for years and years. but we are definitely carrying him and only picking him for loyalty's sake. i just hope having him there doesnt end up costing us

What I don't get is why Hannant got so few minutes. He's been very effective all year and I would've expected him to get more minutes, especially after we lost Parker who was getting through a lot of work.

Mate, only you, your pals and Kaz feel that way. Yet you ignore Taylor and to a lesser degree Cronk and Slater, who with Thurston last night, have had crap games.

For people who care about Qld (which I don't doubt), you certainly quickly forgot what we're about. I would feel shame if they dropped Petero for the last Origin game of his illustrious career, especially knowing the big man will probably play the house down on his last hurrah!

Gillett is our future, even if he is down in form and confidence. That's his excuse for the lesser games!
Taylor isn't... He is supposedly in the best form of his career and dishes this stupidity out and has put in a crappy effort in every single game he has played!

Just on the Tate/Jennings ball. Another line drop out for NSW could've been enough for us to win the game, regardless of the fact we played well below our ability. The Video Ref could've called that one back, as it was clear as day in the replay, but chose not to. I find that unacceptable tbh!

And before Rocky waltzes in here and starts another NSW'king whinge, the above doesn't change the fact that NSW deserved the win IMO.

Clearly you havent been reading my posts then, coz I have mentioned numerous times how bad taylor was and how he is obviously overawed.

5. Taylor looks like hes a kid, playing ball with the adults. He looks overwhelmed. Tell him to pretend he has a souths jersey on. Stand far back in the line, and just steamroll everyone in front of him.

I will agree with you on taylor. He seems out of his depth, scared and intimidated out there. The way he panicked and tried to scoop up the loose ball as opposed to just grounding it really showcased that he is a great NRL player, but far from a great origin player. If Mal gave him free reign to do what he wants, we might see some of his best, but its origin and you have to be far more controlled than that i think.

Agree that either Taylor or Gillett has to go. I'd probably drop Gillett because he's a Bronco and likely to be replaced by a Bronco. I'd rather that than add another Bronco to the team at the expense (...benefit...) of some other club...
