The Ashes 2010-2011

Yeah what was I thinking 2 spinners for perth. Who replaces North? Kwaja?

Still pick smith at 6. He is a guy we need in the team. Khawaja will come in soon when hussey and punter call it a day. They will play hauritz in perth he got 8 wickets there In the last shield game

If Kat is out for the rest of the series and Hughes cashes in, it could be curtains for him. Sad if it turns out that way. Without him, there'll be a distinct lack of leadership in the batting order.

I agree 1000%.

Katich and to a lesser extent Hussey are the only two guys in the line up who really grind and keep there wicket when needed. The amount of times Watson, Ponting, Clarke, North and Haddin have thrown away their wickets with rash shots or slips in concentration is crazy. Katich would have been out there a lot longer had he not had a rooted achilles, the guy is a tough bastard.

Shame about the injury to Kat, I'd like to have seen Watson drop down the order for North and bring in another opener or we could do worse than bring Brad Hodge into the side probably just for the ashes.

Personally I would beg Buchannan to come back, we have really dropped off the basics since he left after the players had a whinge about his methods. No bowling plans, ball watching causing run outs, and we are dropping 2-3 catches an innings. Seriously if we take our catches so far, this series could be looking completly different.

Good to see people finally asking questions of Watson's mental strength. Sure, he shows good composure early in the innings but always goes out after a start. Never goes on with it. He's not an opener.

Should have never been made to open IMO was only put there in the last Ashes series to save Hussey from being dropped.

Problem now is Australia has so few genuine opening options.

Only options are Phil Hughes, Phil Jaques and probably Khawaja who opened his whole junior career. I think Hughes will go in for Katich and the selectors will be reluctant to move Watson even though IMO I am more worried about Watson getting out for 50 all the time rather than 0

I worry about the seeming lack of intensity and desire in the whole team.

and care factor.

I still reckon Clarke's back is playing up, watch him run to chase down the ball, no way is he moving freely.

Well if they were intense and showing desire then they'd care ;-). But yes the majority of the problem is attitude.

Clarke is certainly struggling.

I also had a thought that once Tim Paine is fit we could have him open in Test matches. He started his first class career as an opener. He is a good enough bat and needs to be in the team now. Haddin deserves his spot though so having Paine open would be good for the future IMO.

Paine also wasn't as good with the gloves as he should have been over in India, dropped a few catches and missed some stumpings. Paine really isn't a better keeper than Haddin. If we were serious about picking a keeper who is all quality Matthew Wade is the man.
