My thoughts...
Doherty - Props for giving him a go, but in the end it's clear that it was a failed experiment. So good call.
Hughes - Rubbish the way he was treated during the last Ashes series. And although he's not setting the world on fire at the moment, it's clear that someone as young and as talented as he is needs to be given a good, proper chance to settle into Test Cricket and work out his game on the job - something we'll have to get used to with young players as we rebuild. Good call again.
Smith - Fantastic. A talented, attacking lower order batsmen who can bowl a bit (and that's how he should be classified for now). Handy that he's a leggie for variety. Same deal as Hughes - they've been identified as a fantastic young talents, so give them a solid run of Test Cricket and we'll judge them down the track.
Johnson - Pour le sake de fark, are you kidding me? What was the point of dropping him in the first place? What has he done to earn a spot back in the team? Make no mistake, I want Mitch to be firing on all cylinders and in form, but the fact is he's not. Not even close.
Bollinger - Same deal with Mitch, but roles reversed. Why bring him in on an Adelaide road and then toss him to the curb (and keep Siddle to boot). Total madness IMO. Mitch has done nothing for a long time, but it took forever for him to lose his spot. The Rug has easily been our best quick for the last 12 months, and now they drop him after one bloody game. It's a complete and utter circus.
Beer - I'm all for giving the new breed a crack, that's what we need. But do we have to go straight to the most inexperienced player that we can possible pick? Is O'Keefe not manlovable enough for Ponting and the selectors? We'll see how he goes anyway.
Hilfy - Can't argue. But it'd be a great selection if he came in for Siddle.
