The Dilemma

The fact Capewell is not even in our top 25 suggests he would be a bolter. Though the more I look into him the more I find a talented player who has been messed around by clubs or thrown into horrible structures and cultures.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see him improve.

I think Capewell is, and is forever consigned to the list of players that are too good for QCup, but not good enough for NRL.

I agree, wynnum will be wrapped to be getting a good player for next season.

Oh I've never rated him. I thought he was an abysmal signing. Though looking back through his past he has been managed terribly. The stability Hook provides might see him improve, IMO.

Yup. Shannon Walker too (well in 2007 anyway).

I reckon you'd nearly put Mitchell Dodds there too.

Writing off dodds early mate.. He would be a superstar if he was playing for the phins no doubt.

Not sure about that. Capewell was a Redcliffe boy and I haven't exactly touted him a superstar.

I don't mind Dodds but there have other front rowers such as McGuire and Hala have shown more than him at this point in time.

...but maybe good enough to play for the Sharks

I'm also in the Norman bandwagon, and the first time I saw him play in the NRL had me thinking back when I first saw Lockyer play, I said back then "this kids going to be a superstar" and I thought the same about Norman. Unfortunately he has not seemed to progress as I had hoped, and maybe he should miss selection early on, just to tell him that it's not his god given right to inherit the immortal number 6 jersey. Still I'd love him to stand up and make the position is own, I guess time will tell.

Regardless of who gets the 6 I hope we persist with the lucky one and don't chop and change. We need a good run of consecutive games for the team to get the hang of the new halves combination. If they struggle early on no doubt there will be pressure on Griffen to move on it but I'm pretty confident he'll persist with the first-choice.

Import from the Gold Coast Luke Capewell, been in red hot form in the local Queensland cup

No offence to him, but Corey does not have (yet?) the character of Darren Lockyer. That might come with age and maturity but one of my lasting memories of young Lockyer was his wise beyond his years cool headedness. Never fussed, just went about his job, which I think comes from his background/family/country/early responsibility in life upbringing versus city/unstable home/wise ass/play footy at high school Corey Norman.

I think it shows in his on-field decision making.

Add Josh Hoffman to the list. At the presser this morning he spoke about a desire to emulate Locky and shift to 6. He was hoping to audition in a trial game or two.

Personally, I can't see it any time soon. The one aspect of his game I think we all agree needs improvement is his passing. Not to mention a move to 6 would negate what is arguably his greatest strength - his broken field running. He also played a little in the front line for the 'Phins and looked horrendous in defence.

Does Hoffman have a kicking game at all?
I don't think he's suited to the halves (yet), and like mc1 said, it would be negating his greatest qualities.
I think Beale would have a better shot at a spot in the halves than Hoffy to be honest...

I wouldn't mind seeing Hoffy train in the halves. You need to be like a second five eigth as a fullback in the modern game and toying with the idea may give him extra incentive. Ultimately though, I just want to see Corey Norman or Ben Hunt compete for the position.

His vision and playmaking instinct worries me too. He takes the wrong option on the 2nd man play too often.

But willing to see it trialled. In Hook we trust.

He mentioned he played a fair amount of 6 in the juniors.

I'm not really sure if that carries the weight be believes. It's not uncommon for junior teams to have their best player at 6 despite more than likely being better suited elsewhere. Gillett, Boyd and DT are names that come to mind.
