Doesn't make players like that useless, Gordie was like that too but had to be kept around because of what he was capable of.

It's a matter of opinion obviously but Gillett is nowhere near the level Tallis was. He was one of the most destructive/feared back rowers in the game, possibly the world and did it pretty consistently up until his neck injury.

All Gillett does is pull off a flukey play once every 12 games.

Yes, he definitely needs to get his defense worked on, although he has always been good on the left and was quite good in Origin, but people pushing this agenda totally ignore the talent and how good he can be when on song.

Those guys can't play first grade because their defense isn't up to standard yet Gillett and Milford when he arrives can work on their defense in first grade. A bit of a double standard there, I reckon.

Never said anything about the level, just about the style of player he was and if you go back and watch Tallis you'll notice he was just as prone for the odd brain explosion and defensive lapse.

Alright so when you're over your little mood and quit taking my words out of context, go back and watch a Tallis match and you'll notice he was good for the odd arm grab or defensive read and I'm sure if we had all the tapes somebody out there could point to some obscure game pre or post neck surgery where Tallis was an absolute turnstile.

In that case, I tend to agree with you. Defense, tackling technique, etc.. all can be taught, talent is inate, and Gillett has plenty of that.

I think having a coach like Bennett will be very beneficial to Matt, both with his tackling technique (something the team lacks as a whole) and teaching him when to rush out of the line, and more importantly, when not to. And I also believe he can use him much more effectively in attack as well, taking advantage of his freaky talent.

gillet has got nothing on tallis. yes tallis may have had the odd error but he would also trample through the defense to make up for it. gillet started the season well but since the test match he has just sucked and needs to have a stint in qcup with thaiday

wow are people really comparing gillett to tallis? lolzipop.

gillett had one good year and has been riding that since. somehow it got him in to the test and origin teams, and like thaiday it'll probably keep him there the rest of his career.

his defense is the worst out of any forward in the game. his missed tackle count is huge, but isnt even indicative of how bad it is since when he goes charging out of the line and they just pass and/or run around him without him even getting near them its not a missed tackle, it doesn't show on any stats.

hes hugely overrated and has had one good season with a few mediocre to downright terrible ones.
