The Premier League thread 07/08

looked like a soft second yellow. It seemed like he was only saying 'Whats Happening' a few times, but its hard to know whats really said in those kind of situations. Made a complete donkey out of himself with that crap he was carrying on with tho.

What did all you 'pool fans think of the match last night? Especially mascherano's sending off?

Can't have an honest opinion myself as I despise the man.

Why do you despise him?

He made a mistake, he knows it.

More the 'pool i dont like than him specifically. I used to post on the old forum as nickc1987, perhaps you might remember.

Also, to ningnang and beachy and co, do you think rafa should go?

Ah yes, remember you well.

No Rafa shouldn't go just yet.

Do you not think his lack of ability to ever beat the other top sides in the Premiership over a number of years with a massive budget at his disposal is proof enough that they will never get near the title with him there? It just seems to me as though he will be unable to ever get them above 4th.

Massive budget? eusa_think

Our team is still two class attackers short of being able to challenge for the title.

I think he has spent plenty of money, just not on quality that justifies the price. Bar Torres I don't think he has made a single good value signing. The likes of kuyt, pennant, babel and alonso are all nowhere near premiership-winning footballers.

Also, it is not only the personnel. They are always totally outplayed and outthought when they play the mancs or arse and they just play out terrible draws with chelsea.

You seem to forget the squad he was left with when he arrived. He had to ship out all the deadwood whilst still keeping a strong squad meaning he had to spend money on a fair few 'cheaper' players.

How you can write off Babel already proves your bias against Liverpool, as does your opinion of Alonso.

I'm not going to debate anything with you about Liverpool because no matter what i say you will disagree and spout some other nonchalant crap.

Personally, as much as I think Rafa is quite a good tactically minded manager, Pool would be much better with someone at the helm who is more ruthless in attack. That along with a new attacking mid/deep lying forward to help that along. And not someone who is just above average (i.e. Benayoun) they need someone who is world class.

Pennant-------?????-------Babel
--------------Torres-------------

A new right winger would be nice, but Pennant does the job for you atm. I don't see what's wrong with Kuyt and Alonso either tbh.

[icon_lol1. It's nice but I dunno if it will win you the Premiership.

Its certainly better than having the likes of benayoun there, i really don't rate him......

Pennant hasn't been starting at all, whilst Kuyt seems to have that right-wing position locked up.

Kuyt is extremely frustrating too watch, and whilst he works his arse off, he is not good enough for a title challenging team.

He was good for West Ham, nice distribution, decent vision, but he is nowhere near the quality attacker that Pool need to mount a successful campaign for the premiership

I cannot believe you guys still think Alonso is good. He has been atrocious for so long now, what does he have to do?

As far as my Liverpool bias goes, sure I admit that I hate them, but I think I can still admit it if their players are good. Torres and Agger for instance, are top class IMO. But players like Xabi, Pennant, Kuyt and Babel just do not produce the goods often enough for them ever to be part of a premiership winning squad. Liverpool fans claim they want to be challenging for the premiership but then continue to tolerate players that belong at aston villa and man city.

Good to see that you can recognise that said players are better than the Middlesbrough standard though [icon_wink

5 minutes of Injury time called, 5 minutes and 30 seconds later Andy Reid slots one in  Hell yes!

irons should hang their heads in shame, first 20mins we dominated after that they were ordinary

As a Liverpool fan I largely agree (though IMO you are very wrong about Babel - will be a top top player in a few years). Nothing wrong with Alonso either, much better than Carrick. In general though we sign too many players who simply are not worthy of winning a premiership (Pennant, Benayoun, Voronin etc.). And now news of chasing Gareth Barry? He's a big fish in a small pond. We play in big ponds and need big pond fish, which Barry is not. If you ask me we should be going after Lucas Podolksi. In fact, I'm considering running for chairman of LFC and campaigning on signing Podolski and selling Pennant and Benayoun icon_thumbs_u
