NEWS The Third Coming of Wayne Bennett

New CEO Duncan Donuts isn't ruling out the third coming of Wayne Bennett possibly as coaching director or culture boss. And the players are right behind him. Not only that but the Voice of Brisbane claims it can name more than 10 players who've told their managers they'd switch to Brisbane‘s second team if Bennett is coach. For now, it's keeping those names a big secret, but let's hear what these Broncos have to say:

Corey Oates

“If Wayne was to come back it’d be awesome. Everyone would think the same thing. Wayne’s name speaks for itself. I know it was tough when he left in 2018, but that’s not on us, it was with everyone upstairs. Personally, as a player, I get along well with him. I really enjoyed having him here and everything I learned from him.

“It’s just his experience, knowledge and history he has with the club. That’s what the Broncos have been missing. With ‘Kevvie’ the passion has come back. They’d be a great combination together.”

Still has it

Matt Lodge:

“He is still one of the best mentors in the game. He made me feel like I would run through a brick wall for him so he clearly does something right. I don’t know it would work with two people running the show, but I’ve always respected Wayne and he did a lot for me. The older I get, the more I appreciate what he did for me letting me come back to the game at the Broncos. I definitely felt the love when he was here, he stuck up for me a lot, whether that was media criticism or the off-field stuff I was going through."

“We definitely have that connection where I played for him and played hard for him. He would be a great person for some of the young guys we have here. I don’t know who runs the show or does what, but if Wayne came back to help Walters, I guess the Broncos have to put that business plan together.”

Tevita Pangai Jnr :

“I’m really close to Wayne. We still keep in contact, he has always been a great mentor for me. Kevvie is doing a great job here and he reminds me a lot of Wayne in the way he treats people. Kevvie is getting the best out of me. Even though some results haven‘t gone our way, he is holding me accountable.”

Payne Haas:

“Wayne brought me to the Broncos and he has been a massive influence on my career. My dad actually wanted me to go to Melbourne, I was about to sign on the dotted line, but I got a call from Wayne at the last minute and he brought me to the Broncos and I haven’t looked back since. If he came back, it would be pretty cool, I know several of the boys would love to have Wayne back around, but we‘ll see what happens.”

Tom Flegler:

“His resume speaks for itself. I haven’t heard a single thing about Bennett returning, I find out most things through the media (such as the articles penned by award winning senior sports writer Peter Badel), but it would be great to have him back. Look at what he has done. He is a great coach and I’d love to play under him.”

Wayne is in the box seat. All 3 bidding clubs want him.
The Broncos however would be absolutely beyond stupid if they don’t make sure he comes back.
If he doesn’t, he will all but kill the Broncos. The dollars, sponsorships and players that he would attract to Brisbane 2.0 would be massive.
The Broncos would also no doubt lose some supporters, especially if the club fails to turn things around in 2022.

There is only one option for the Broncos and it is that they must move Heaven and earth to ensure he returns.

Proven by no facts and no history. Riiiiiggggghhhhhttttttt.
It’s not proven, it’s an educated guess based on history and facts. He’s an old guy who has been the coach and boss for 30 odd years and has given no indication he wants to stop. Would never accept playing second fiddle anywhere. As I said if he could stick to whatever role we threw his way I could accept it but I simply don’t believe this would happen.

It simply has to happen. I don't think it's a matter of selling him on anything. It's a phone call with a question; what do you want to come back to the Broncos? And whatever he says, we do it.
I don't know if this would work. There are some things we can't deliver on.
If he says "I don't want to come back while that flog Morris is chairman" then the conversation ends there as no one at the club has the clout to get rid of him.
Again if he says "I only want to be a head coach" then we have nowhere to go. I am sure wayne would not want the broncos to sack/not extend kevvie so he can take over.
In either (in my view very possible) scenarios he doesn't come.
As I have said the clock is ticking and we need to get something done (no idea what) sooner rather than later or the decision will be made for us.

Morris and his minders would of course love Wayne to coach Brisbane II. He's as much as a plant as PVL but of course you can't purge corruption while the dollars are flowing.

Even if WB came back he could still jump ship to the new franchise if it suited him.

I don't want to go back to the ex again. Yeah we know she's a good fit, and what we are going to get out of her. There is a reason the ex is the ex and we should be happy to move forward with the current one than go backwards.

Because she'd suck you dry and play video games. She's the best thing you've ever had. ..and the reason you broke up was your fault.

Wayne should come back and be at the broncos until he carks it and be buried at Lang park in a broncos casket wearing a broncos tuxedo.

it will be a fucking travesty beyond imagining if he spearheads another brisbane team
As a side note the ground was originally built upon a cemetary. I pity the poor journalist that runs into his ghost. There's some serious payback coming from the afterlife there.

I'd prefer to find a new one who does that, while he is what we need culturally, we need to be the current GF to build her own team, her own identity without the ex looking over her shoulder. Parra has done that, as the most recent spooners to top 4, they are still a confidence team, and on a roll they will smash anyone, but they are slowing it down a little and are able to control the game better than in the past. Giving up on the ex culture is working for them at the moment.

It's true that some things are out of our control, but you bend over backwards to try to manipulate the situation wherever you can.
If WB says "I don't want to come back while that flog Morris is chairman" yes that could be end of it, but still try. At least make it public so there will be fan outrage. The Board itself might even vote for Morris to be ousted. At least try.
If WB says "I only want to be a head coach" then you talk to KW....maybe he would be happy being co-coach with WB for a year or 2. Learn a shitload and have WB do the hard yards of rebuilding the team (players and culture). Next time you take on the role on your own, it's easier and you know more. Win/win.

The key as you’ve said is communication and that would not be a strong point if the club unfortunately.

Him replacing Nolan would be the dream. I don't know the ins and outs but it's a much cruisier job than being a full time NRL coach and he's surely keen to wind down a bit.

We need that star power in our back office and him doing some of the PR would take a load off Kev with the media BS too.

Make it happen DD.
At this point I'd take anyone besides @broncsgoat replacing Nolan, and even that is only because he'd want to re-sign Milford until the point as a species where we'd worked out how to colonise the Sun on a salary roughly equivalent of the GDP of Indonesia.

Was 2018 POTY though to be fair...

Peter Nolan is so bad that I'm convinced he's a plant that is actively sabotaging the Broncos.

His levels of incompetence go beyond what would be called even criminal negligence...it's an active campaign to **** our roster.

Blame the dumbass that thought hiring him was a good idea after his stint at Parramatta.

Cheated the Cap? Tick

Won multiple spoons? Tick

No Accountability whatseover? Bigger Tick.

Thanks Paul White.

Honestly, you shouldn't be allowed to work for us if you've so much as visited Parramatta, let alone worked for the Eels.

To my mind Walters deserves his shot as head coach. I loved Wayne Bennet as coach for the passion the players showed under him, the junior patgwa
