Anyone know any reported figure for what Oates is on?
Anyone know any reported figure for what Oates is on?
Outrageous500k a season i believe ... he reportedly turned down a bigger offer from the Bulldogs
Hopefully enough Q cup will inspire him to join a different team and not take up the option.Oates has the option for next year too, at 500K. Its best we get him back to form.
Yep, I have a feeling this is the long game, I’m sure Hook would be keen.Hopefully enough Q cup will inspire him to join a different team and not take up the option.
Yep, he can do that in Q Cup. No point holding back a potential gun with more experience in position, like Riki, to try get minutes and form into Oates.
Seems to the the post Bennett trend. This is our problem at the Broncos. We are either relying on young players who haven't proved a thing in the NRL to fulfill their potential, or former great players who aren't what they used to be and we need them to get their form back. Very bad position to be in.
That's just it though, the money IS a big deal and a pretty big difference.
$600k is huge money for anything other than an absolutely elite Winger like Radradra, and even then, you'd question whether that was honestly the best use of your salary cap and those funds. Highly likely that Oates would struggle to consistently command elite dollars like that for very long.
Compare that to Backrowers and even fairly mediocre ones are commanding that sort of money all the time, with the best ones earning significantly more than that. In Fifita's case it's actually more than twice as much.
I'm not saying Oates is likely to get anywhere near that, but in his mind he's likely thinking that as he ages, it's far easier to be a mid tier Backrower collecting $600k probably all the way up to retirement rather than having to stay at an absolutely elite level of Winger just to scrape into earning that sort of cash, which gets much harder to do as he gets older and slower.
It may be about more than this and based on how he feels and what he prefers as a Footballer, but I'd be very surprised if the economic argument isn't playing a big role here too.
We really have to (collectively, but also particularly the club and the players) stop this looking to blame someone else for the deficiencies of a player. The player should own their limitations and mistakes and work to minimise or ideally completely negate them.
Don't you know his attitude rubbed off on our immune systems "it's just a virus bro".haha fucking hell. Everything is Boyd’s fault. Can’t believe he caused Covid too
Apparently Corey has asked to be a winger again?
