The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Yes, yes and yes. I'm soooo hungry for a premiership for the Bronocs again, I just can't see it happening for a long time which is depressing ain't it?

The basis of League Freaks article seems to be that Bennett recruited Dad's Army and has left the club without a future while clearly ignoring the likes of Gagai, Leilua, Roberts, Rochow, McKinnon, K. Sims, Clydesdale and Naiqama.

Given they still have Uate, Mullen, Snowden, Houston and to an extent Boyd, McManus and Cuthbertson long term it's nowhere near as bad as what LF is making out.

The way I see it, Bennett is trying to create a blend where he uses his experienced has beens to help guide the next generation through and remind the Knights of their heritage and to get the fans on board.

he proper fucked st george over though, so there is merit to that guys thinking. keeping oldies and then taking half of the good players with him when he left.

I honestly think WB had to go, his time was up. He was stale at the Broncos and our performances were reflecting that. What we didn't handle was his replacement and Coxy is right with Lockyer. That was the biggest mistake, to not replace him. We were right up in 2011 before Locky had his cheeckbone fracture (that was 2011 right?). He made up for what our coach lacked. Problem is, how do you replace someone like him? All I know is that the Broncos have shown how NOT to plan for when someone like Locky leaves a club. At this stage though, WB would still be a hell of a lot better than Griffin, but I still don't want him back.

tkday ..with your first two lines in the above quote you say WB was stale and our performances reflected that. The facts are not supportive of that though. In 2007 we made the finals eventually finishing in 8 th and it was a season of struggle however the following season with the same coach we improved to finish in fifth, making the semi finals and losing to the over the cap Storm in a controversial semi. Had we had a little more luck we probably would have played Manly in the Grand Final. So in the the three years prior to WB leaving we made the finals all three years, made the semis in two of those three years and won one Grand Final...! How many did better..?

.Wow...only AP could consider WBs efforts at St George as fucking them over. He got them a premiership ffs. The cost was incidental from what I hear from Saints fans....

Well at least he applied the premiership lubricant before he took Darius Bennett with him to Newcastle. I'm sure the Dragons weren't complaining about that.

I also don't think it's a reflection on Wayne that club stalwarts like Hornby, Young & Cooper stayed on.

How's this for irony, Wayne Bennett has the oldest team, is above us on the ladder, scored 48 points more than the Broncos and conceded 28 points less than the Broncos ! For a coach from a bygone era he seems to have learned about the ' new ' style of football played these days. When you consider he has not had a huge budget to work with it seems he's done pretty well. It appears more modern coaches in the league are behind him. You'd almost conclude from the evidence that Wayne Bennett is still relevant and capable.

Wayne Bennett

The above says more about the Broncos than Bennett IMO

He did similar to us when he left us, we lost a few players to other clubs because of him.

his team missed the finals last year, despite making them the year before he started there.
his team has lost more matches than theyve won this year.
his team has the most rep players out of any team in the comp.
not had a huge budget? do you know how much he is being paid and how much his boss is (or is that was now?) worth?
bellamys team is 6 places higher on the ladder, and are reigning premiers.
haslers team is higher than his despite only having 1 win from their first 6 matches.
mcguires team is 7 places higher on the ladder, only lost 2 matches.
the broncos are only 1 win behind the knights despite having a crap coach and a crappy roster, and we even made the finals last year.
the knights beat a titans team that was without myles and taylor, arguably their best 2 players, and who also lost idris after 4 minutes, scoring every one their tries apart from 1 down the side where idris usually defends.

but yeah, congratulations bennett, definitely the best coach at the moment for getting his team to 8th on for-and-against, equal with 11th on competition points. well done old chap. definition of world beater. we should just give him the dally m coach of the year right now shouldnt we?

good to see old mate, finally we agree. Old Bennys still got it !

I know your only joking AP but your right. He is doing a fantastic job at Newcastle and I didn't think I'd live to see the day when you'd endorse the great man so strongly. Truly I have to agree he is an inspiration to those other coaches and I reckon they'd hang off his every word. .Thanks again .

it does matter because youre making out that its a fact that he knew. he was found by the investigators to have had no knowledge. the fact that you still not only believe that he did, but state that he did as if its a fact, shows your bias.

If the investigators came out & said he knew, it would have been a worst disaster for our game.

If would have included former CEO Brian Waldron, chief executive officer and former chief financial officer Matt Hanson and the current chief financial officer at the time Paul Gregory, players & coach.

Oh wait the players didn't know either. NOT

youre forgetting that they were independent investigators, not internal NRL ones. the NRL have no say in the findings. if the investigators found any evidence of it, regardless of how it would affect the game, they wouldve said so. they said the exact opposite, that there was no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Bellamy or any of the players had any knowledge.

AP...I just scanned Bennys team for the weekend and I found one, just one current rep player ! That would be Darius Boyd. I'm unsure about your claim that Newcastle has the most rep players ! How do you reach such a conclusion ? Rejects like Mason perhaps ? Old fellas like Gower ( 35 ! ) Uate is a former rep along with Snowden and I guess you'd include Buderus and Costigan but surely it's a stretch to say Newcastle have the most reps !
