I'll probably give you Jeff Lima, but I never rated the rest, especially not Orford, despite his Dally M. Opinions I guess...

Sailor, Tiquiri. Hunt, Boyd, Petero, Reece Robinson, Thorn, Tate, etc. All players that moved on and were successful elsewhere. Who has Bellamy groomed who moved on and have been successful elsewhere? Blair, Lowrie, Neil? We may be a one man team but Bellamy has 3 Lockyer quality players to make him look better than he is. The only time he's played with an inferior team is in origin and he was rubbish there.
wait on......so inglis doesnt count cause he was a "star player", yet sailor/tuqiri/civoniceva/thorn/tate count? epic lolz mate. they were all star players too.

reece robinson? the guy who didnt even play a full season with us, and whos contract was not renewed BY BENNETT? wouldnt that lead you to believe that bennett DIDNT see talent in him? and now youre saying that bennett saw talent in him and groomed him? funny way of grooming him, by dumping him and not renewing his contract lol.

and lol at hunt being successful since he moved on. hes a PR move, nothing more. sure he doesnt completely suck now, a few years after starting AFL - but hes not what you would call successful based on his AFL merits.

even if not a single melbourne player other than the big 3 was good after they left - which couldnt be further from the truth - dont you think that proves just how good a coach Bellamy is? to take a team that only has 3 decent players and just dominate year in year out? you seem to think that 3 players is all it takes to win a match of rugby league lol.

so again - what "so-so" players have been groomed by bennett and achieved more success once they left? the fact that you would even attempt to list Tuqiri or Sailor as "so-so" players pretty much says all that needs to be said about your defence of bennett.

Come on AP, you know as well as anyone that Reece Robinson was absolutely hopeless on the wing that year. Everyone saw that, not just Bennett.

Cuddos to him though, because he certainly went on with his career and turned into a very good player, especially at fullback!

Why would Bennett renew anybody's contract when he was no longer contracted to the club?

Absolutely, just like Bellamy didn't see talent in Greg Inglis because he didn't renew his contract.

He's done well in the AFL, he's actually a mid-range player which is a big achievement considering the sports are completely different.

But I thought we were a one man team? Doesn't that prove even further how good Bennett was that he managed to win a premiership with only one good player?

Reece Robinson, he was brought into FG by Bennett and is now a pretty damn good player.

Re: Sack Griffin

You didn't need hindsight to see the decision to push Bennett was wrong. I screamed the house down at the time and pointed out that a rookie coach was idiotic as a choice. Copped a fair bit of flak about my position too. Our current situation can be traced back to that shocking decision as we are no longer a club people wish to join. WB was much more than a coach, he was a draw card . He attracted players who not only wanted to be coached by him but would do so on reduced rates. We got rid of WB in order to improve and we went downhill.

Re: Sack Griffin

The problem wasn't get rid of Bennett but the lack of planning when it happened. Bennett wanted to stick around and nurture someone to replace him but Bruno wasn't keen. Losing Bennett wouldn't have been an issue had we got Bellamy.

Perhaps, although that is just a different point of view. I believe it was the root cause of our problem as Bennett didn't want to simply stick around to nurture someone, he wanted to stick around. The problem was a power hungry prick who didn't like Bennett running the club albeit by default . He set the standards and the tone of the club. The problem is we should never have been looking for a new coach when we already had the best at the time. Still, I respect your right to differ.

Re: Sack Griffin

The club was going to shit under Bennett, he had to go. He rewarded mediocrity just as much, if not more, than griffin does.

Re: Sack Griffin

Here we go again

Re: Sack Griffin

Why did you guys start him up again?!?

We didn't. We were having a discussion about where it all went wrong and ricky retardo has decided to take it where he always takes a conversation about Bennett and the Broncos.

Re: Sack Griffin

The reality is the game has changed significantly in the last 5 years, particularly in the area of coaching. Like players, coaches have an identifiable style. bennett bases his 'game' on Jack Gibson, who was seen as a great innovator and the first 'supercoach'. Gibson's methodology was to ensure his teams conceded fewer penalties and mistakes than his opponents. by preying on mistakes, field poision and possession could be dominated and points could be accrued. he also was involved in the emergence of the modern player shape- players could play in a number of positions and fit the team mould. bennett has adopted this approach and has had success with it- grinding style, mistake free, simple plays with one central player who controls the plays. bennett also believed at one stage that the role of a creative organising player was redundant. Think of life after Alfie where he played a number of players without any great skill i n the 6 and 7 in the belief that th e machine would continue to role on. what has changed now is there are a number of coaches who exploit this play and don't offer the mistakes to halt their momentum. In other words, the aspects of play that the Bennett teams rely on, mistakes from others, has dried up. the basic plays served up are also less effective because there are ferer of them and therefore the grind and momentum dominance is less effective. The new breed is streets ahead of Wayne as he is unable to or willing to recognize the change. Bellamy is so effective because he has taken lots from the Bennett and Gibson styles and added some crucial variations. Unfortunately, Wayne has had his day- an amazing legacy and a great man, but now sadly out of touch with the modern game.

compound fracture brought it up actually, saying:

"You didn't need hindsight to see the decision to push Bennett was wrong"

i completely disagree with that, so i - like people do on a discussion forum - said my opinion. just because youve heard it a million times before doesnt mean you cant hear it once more when its 100% on topic.

the decision to push wayne bennett out was the right one. the broncos had become boring, predictable, and had a roster getting more and more filled with "nice guy nuffies" every year. our only saving grace, and the only reason we could even win a single game was that we had lockyer.

what we did after we decided to push bennett was where it all went wrong. we shouldve made a HUGE play for bellamy or at least another first grade experienced coach. throw the big dollars that literally only the broncos can afford to throw at him since its not included in the salary cap. promise them everything under the sun from their own staff to player recruitment to a house right next to the training field if they want.

we instead chose to go with an unknown, untested, and seemingly unlikable Henjak. getting rid of bennett was the right call, replacing him with henjak was the wrong call.

Mod Note - I appreciate the concern about threads going off topic but we don't need 3 consecutive posts taking umbridge with the derailment. In the future, I'd prefer you report the post and allow me to dump it in the appropriate thread.

You may resume talking about Benny.

I'm unsure why having an opinion on a subject causes so much angst amongst fellow posters.I mean, it's similar to television insomuch as you have a choice as to whether or not you choose to watch a programme or indeed even use the tv. I strongly support APs right to have his say. That it is the same opinion is irrelevant . That's simply conviction.

This is a WB thread and both AP and myself were discussing WB. Why don't people simply ignore the posts and moderate other much more important issues. There was nothing offensive or controversial written.

So we pushed Bennett out because we were boring predictable and full of nice guy nuffies?!? And how is that different to how we are now?

This topic has been discussed to death and has a habit of dominating other threads. Having it's own dedicated thread is a happy compromise.

End of.
