The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Still too much Reed and Maranta for others.

That line-up is probably worse than the one that Bennett named, if only because Hodges CAN NOT defend at Five-Eighth, and we'd be wasting Milford's development at Fullback, he's only going to get shifted to Five-Eighth once Boyd returns, we'd be silly to not give him the whole season in the one position.

Big Pete since you asked so nicely  here is the backline that i honestly think would be our strongest:

Full strength

1. Milford
2. Kahu
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Boyd
6. Taylor
7. Hunt

For Round One

1. Milford
2. Kahu
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Vidot
6. Taylor
7. Hunt

The reasons for some of my selections are:

Copley: had a breakout year in 2014, one of our strike weapons. big and strong. but he is weak under the high ball, so would be a target on the wing. personally I don't like switching positions during a game. his best position is center, IMO, so select him there, give him some consistency (which he hasn't really had) and we will see exactly what he is capable of... and I can't wait.

Milford: I know I've said this before, but IMO, fullback is definitely Milford's best position. sniffing around the ruck waiting for offloads and leaving opposition players for dead with his blinding pace. in a few years we could possibly see him emulate Lockyer and make the move to the front line, but the time is not right for that IMHO. besides he is a brilliant fullback and there is nothing wrong with that, not every fullback needs to eventually move to 6.

Boyd: One of the best finishers in the league IMO, he shows that every time he puts on a rep jersey, But IMO Milford is a better fullback. besides we need quick men that know how to find the try line on the wings for us, we have lacked that for some time.

Kahu: I've had raps on Kahu for years, been very unlucky with injuries. like Boyd he is a quick man and a good finisher perfect for a Brisbane Broncos winger.

Taylor: Yes i know he is young and unproven at this level, but with a spine that has Milford and Hunt in it, I think it is the perfect time to throw him in the deep end. he will make mistake but that is all part of development. lets select him, and stick with him ... IMO this kid has serious talent.

I've never seen that many IMO's in a single post.

I really shouldn't have to ask. Flying off the handle, bagging out your team without offering alternatives...it's pretty weak.

But hey we got there eventually.

It's a fair team but always easy to say they should blood some rookie and say they'll be right, another to know for sure. For mine, Taylor is still a good year off from playing first grade.

sorry, been busy last night and most of today ...

besides i figured most people knew where i thought people should play

Obviously the All Stars thing pointed to it being a joke. Technique and ability is there, just can't handle the up & back.

It got lost with all the mindless bagging.

Speaking of, any evidence of people saying that Wayne wouldn't select Reed or Maranta?

I'm too lazy to go through over 100 pages in multiple threads ...

but to be fair, it was more along the lines of me saying something like (after a poster bagging Reed in 2014) "Expect Reed to be there because Bennett loves those type of players" ... the response i got was along the lines off "no he doesn't and Bennett won't stick with under-performing players etc" and since Reed didn't have any pre-season game, most of what Bennett would have had to go on is his poor form for the majority of 2014.

you all have my apologies for getting back on the agenda yesterday, i was tired after working since 6am (working with a bloody annoying guy all day as well) and Bennett's selection's didn't help my mood.

The one i have the biggest problem with is Whitchurch ... I can't for the life of me see how he was selected, especially after i watched the game against Wigan

Fair enough mate, just as long as you've got it out of your system and you're prepared to support the club you won't hear another word.

The carry on by some on here last year was ridiculous - would hate to see you jump on board with them.

I'll always support anyone who runs out in a Broncos jersey ... even if i don't agree with their selection.

Footy season is back ... HELL YEAH

This, I don't care where you stand since the announcement of Bennett's return and the aftermath, its time to cut the bickering and get behind the boys.

Agree with your confusion mate but he is the one I am keen to see go around. He seems a player who traditionally Bennett can get the best out of with a show of confidence. Sometimes that's all that's needed to help the kid with some ability. Don't be surprised if he is a big improver early in the year.

Whilst I rate Taylor highly, the kid has god awful defence. For all the points he could put on, he would give them back up in defence. If he can improve his defence, it wont be long until he finds a spot in first grade but that's a big IF.

Agreed, before even considering bringing him into first grade he needs time in the Queensland cup, the under 20's is a whole different level to the higher grades both in attack and defence.

BRONCOS winger Lachlan Maranta is playing for his Brisbane future with new coach Wayne Bennett determined to use 2015 as a year to discover who can and can’t cut it in his NRL premiership ambitions.

Maranta was one of Bennett’s selection bombshells for tonight’s season opener against South Sydney, winning his spot on the end of Brisbane’s backline ahead of Daniel Vidot.

But Bennett warned his selection came with a caveat, that Maranta like many of the young players at the club had to prove themselves as quality first graders or they’d be looking for a new club next season.

“Lachlan Maranta is a 42-game NRL player but he really hasn’t cemented his position on the wing,” Bennett told a luncheon in Brisbane on Wednesday.

“He is either going to cement it there or he will be looking for a new club. I’ve told him that by the way.”

Plz respond Bennett h8rs
