The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Wow. Way to overreact. Just because I called the wings, centres and fullback the "backline" I'm all of a sudden a know it all fan, or a twisted troll. lol.

Instead of actually joining in a discussion, you are picking on a phrase I used to describe a bunch of players. What if I said the "back row". Does that include the lock? Or what if I said thr "forwards". Some would take that as 8 - 13, but u could also read that as 8 and 10.

but u know, who fucking cares. I made it painfully clear I meant 1 - 5 when I was referring to the backline, be it incorrect or not, I made it quite clear what I meant.

and no, I haven't played the game apart from school but u know what, I have no doubt in my mind that I have a more than capable knowledge of the game, and probably more so than most people on here. I have a successful IT career and have no "bitterness" about not being a footy player. Just because I used the wrong phrase means shit.

Edit: Personal insult

Who said we'd never see them again?

Relevant question.

Got an answer Foordy or are you just lying?

Maranta was probably our most consistent winger last year if you factor in all his work under the high ball

Disagree.

Maranta had a couple of good performances, namely against the Warriors at Suncorp but he had his share of shockers that saw him get dropped from the team.

The performance against Melbourne at Suncorp comes to mind. It was arguably the worst of any player that season, perhaps seconded by Hunt in that very game.

Vidot's on-field form never saw him get dropped and it shouldn't have.

Vidot didn't really prove that he deserved a spot in the trials

Splitting hairs - Maranta wasn't that flash either and was auditioning on the other side of the field which is going to be different than being on the right.

Unbreakable said:
Reed at left centre isn't ideal, but considering it's most likely that Copley attacks there whilst Reed defends there, it's the best we could've done I guess, it'll be way different next season once Wayne has actually got a chance to clean out some of the junk and recruit Gagai etc.

Everyone should read this.

Bennet picks one of the worst backlines the broncos have ever seen, no surprises

Like that means anything, the guy has been in charge of selections for 22 of those 28 seasons...he's virtually competing with himself at this point.

I wouldn't resort to such hyperbole, but it isn't that surprising given the backline is missing one of it's marquee members and has had to adjust accordingly.

and last years was 100x worse than this years

Maybe I won't resort to hypebole but Unbreakable clearly will.

You guys should cut it out. At some point you've got to try and actually try to convince the other of your point, not expose how stubborn you are.

...Seriously, how good is Bennett, not only getting the Bronx back on track but he's even running the broom through BroncosHQ.

Maranta does know how to find the line ... Unfortunately it's the sideline.

How's your golden boy Hoffman going? Oh that's right he left us to go play Fullback on a bottom 4 team and Zillman beat him for the position

A game against parra in 2012.
Backline was:
Luke Capewell
Gerard Beale
Alex Glenn
Ben Teo
Lachlan Maranta

Throw in the halves of Norman and Wallace, still get shivers...

And just for those playing at home, who selected this team?

It's also worth noting that Griffin had no excuse for how bad our 1-7 performed last year, we had virtually no injuries all year, he picked the team & he had a hand in recruiting them.

Switch Kahu for Boyd and move Kahu to the right wing in place of Maranta and this team is suddenly one of the better back lines we've had in recent memory. But of course that wouldn't vindicate Queenslander's agenda, would it.

Just because Griffin was a shit coach ... doesn't mean Bennett has to try and compete with him in that regard.

I know the bar is set pretty low at the moment. but can Bennett not just try to limp over it, but instead fly over it ...

He hasn't even coached an NRL game for us and you're already saying his only goal is to do a better job than Griffin?.. Give me a break

How about you wait until he's actually had a chance to make this team what he wants it to be before you judge the shit out of his coaching ability.

Can one of you guys let Hodgo know how shit the backline and coach are? He's mentioned a few times how he wants to captain the team to a premiership, but better to let the guy know there's no chance now rather than break his heart later on during the season.

Oh, he knows. That's why he forced himself in to pretty much every spine position on-field last year. Seriously though, when I looked at the team I was as gobsmacked as everyone. But Bennett himself has said that he doesn't care what the fans think, his job is to win premierships. If that means he's working towards a 2016+ tilt (evidenced by the JoO comment), then let him work his players however he sees fit so that they're at their peak at the right time.

And some people thought we'd never see Reed or Maranta in the side again with Bennett returning

But i guess they are good selections now since Hook isn't making them ... Right?

Posts like this really annoy me, sorry Foordy, but you are being way too judgemental here

First line is fine to say, but why add the second?

I am about as big a fan of WB as you'll find, I hated the selection of Maranta last year and I still hate it

I don't suddenly think it's good based on who made it

To suggest so is to imply that Bennett fans are incapable of logical thought

Uncool

I'm still waiting for some basis on the first line.

While I wait, I'll ask another question.

Of all the available players, what would your 1-7 look like?

Am I to assume if Bennett named this...

1. Anthony Milford
2. Jordan Kahu
3. Dale Copley
4. Justin Hodges
5. Daniel Vidot
6. Darren Nicholls/Ash Taylor/Kodi Nikorima
7. Ben Hunt

Everything would have been hunky dory?

Or are you still kicking stones because Bennett decided there wasn't enough room for Barba and Milford and brought in Boyd to replace Benny?

Again, I have trouble understanding why some people flew off the handle yesterday when all but one of those picks was news. I get the feeling Bennett could have chosen your 17 and you would have found something to complain about.

name a 1 - 5 that is worse... Like talking to a wall

That one pretty well is worse, Reed attacking in the centres, Vidot, Barba and Copley unable to catch bombs. This years looks better so far.

If Maranta over Vidot is everyone's biggest concern, then we don't have many problems. Copley is considered a real talent on here now but it wasn't that long ago he was bombing tries and dropping balls and people were calling for his head (back in 2012 and considering he didn't play much in 13, 14 was his breakout year). Maranta has put his head down and worked on his game and been rewarded for a strong pre season and trial form. Its time for Vidot to do the same if he wants his spot back. Too many players last year coasted off reputations alone

I could have lived with

1) Milford
2) Maranta
3) Reed
4) Copley
5) Vidot
6) Hodges
7) Hunt

Especially since Hodges played the majority of the All Stars game at right back row ;)
