CRONULLA today signed former Australian five-eighth Trent Barrett to a two year contract worth $600,000.

Where are the Sharks getting this money from?

Tupou on a 1.2 million dollar deal IIRC and now Barrett for 300k a year.

They've offloaded Kimmorley - I'd imagine he would have been on a fairly handy sum of money. And really, apart from Gallen and Bird, the rest of their team wouldn't be commanding all that much.

That's it. Other than their back row, Ross and now Barrett, try and find a player in their side that would be on a large amount of money.

They'd have to be looking at upgrading the likes of Pomeroy and Kearney.

Of course but neither of those would command anything like elite money

Ross must be coming to the end of his contract as well.

Ricky Stuart is the Australian Coach alot of players will be playing at the Sharks for less than at other clubs.

Unless Ross suddenly becomes the next greatest ever prop...he's gone. Cronullas been trying to off load him for ages. I'd reckon they'd already know he's not going to be paid by them next year

Kimmorleys on 400 a season too..big savings ahead

Ross is a good player, but he definitely isn't worth what Cronulla is paying for him. He should have been playing Origin for QLD, he has a good workrate, like Civo/Price/Cayless.

Ross is a good player playing poorly/stupidly due to attitude. The reasons are unknown,at least to me.

He's been a poor return for Cronulla.

yeh Ross was GREAT when he played Origin, but crap for his club. He owes the sharks, he got himself a nice deal, but i agree, sharks will tell him to bugger off, or accept a low amount. (which he wont)

Good pick up for the sharkies seeing as Kimmorley is leaving at the end of the year.

Should fit in well with Stuarts structure and particularly with Seymour inside him. I expect Seymour to start at half as of next year and be their long term half. All this after being dumped to park footy with Hannay last year!

Funnies thing about this signing is the fact that Barrett last week stated his desire to win a premiership here would be a huge factor in deciding where to go.

[icon_lol1. Nice diversion!

Well..

A) They're 2 points off the top this year.

Rocky Rocky Rocky... I think the Sharks have been in the top three after round 12 in the past 3-4 seasons.

Their mid/end season slides have been pretty well noted. Of them included one from clear first after eleven rounds, and a 10th or 11th place finish by the end...

Rocky was saying that maybe next year, mick!....and this year they're going alright and have the basis/platform. misunderstood ?

Agree CF. But one thing that's common to every Sharks team since 1967, when they've had the platform, and even got themselves into the Grand Final, something has always been missing from finishing the job.

I still don't see anything to suggest otherwise.

Also of note to some who are lauding Trent Barrett as potentially the difference between going close and actually winning: how many premierships did he win at St George-Illawarra, and how many Grand Finals did they get to.

Answer is binary.

0 and 1.
