I like it. Paix deserves the chance, Turpin lost his chance.

Cobbo has far more use at FB than wing. He couldn't be worse than Niu at FB in pressure situations - which are all that counts. FB is a tough job, 90% of the time its barking orders and herding cattle, the remainder 10% are what you are judged by - and they are what impacts games in a huge way.

I'm just following Badel's lead, I don't need a citation if it interferes with the story I want to tell.
Fake news: Badel was reporting as an eye witness. While you were still in your pyjamas.

And to me this is why Reynolds should be at least playing 20mins of this trial.
There’s a good chance this will be our spine heading into rd1
1. Cobbo
6. Walters
7. Reynolds
9. Paix
Considering none of them finished last year in those positions (discount Reynolds because south’s is a different system) it would have made sense to have him out there barking orders.

How do Cobbo and Niu compare in the pace department?
I assume Cobbo's stroll down the sideline in semi-pursuit on the weekend was some sort of anomaly.
Cobbo was the quickest at the club over 40m last season or the one before

Badel is rarely right, lets hope this is one of those rare occasions and I have had a quiet thought in the back of my head all along that Cobbs might have been shielded a bit until the last trial, takes a lot of pressure off having Isaako and Mead there and then unleash him in the last trial to see how he goes. If he sucks, you can fall back to Isaako or Mead, if he shines, well great news all round.

I wonder if this might be the side:

1. Cobbo
2. Farnworth
3. Staggs
4. Lee
5. Pereira
6. Walters
7. Mam
8. Haas
9. Paix
10. James
11. Capewell (c)
12. Riki
13. Hetherington

14. Gamble
15. Carrigan
16. Jensen
17. Robati

18. Isaako
19. Mead
20. Kelly
21. Oates
22. Bayliss-Brow
23. Kennedy
24. Quai-Ward
25. Hoeter
26. Turpin
27. Flegler
28. Mariner
29. Piakura
30. Te Kura

Something like that. If we go into round 1 with a spine of Cobbo, Mam, Reynolds, Paix it is exciting but I worry slightly too green. I wouldn't be surprised to see Walters get the nod in this case but then if he does, who goes into 14 to relieve Paix for a bit?

It is really starting to take shape.
I'd have walters at 7 as it allows you to see the others at 6 , and i think he's the closest to Reynolds.
Palasia would get another run also you'd think?

I like the fact that Boyd is working with Cobbo.

Yeah, he shit the bed in his final few seasons but he can teach Cobbo a lot, especially how to set up his outside men. There wasn't a fullback in the NRL better at that than Boyd.

Also, game prep and looking after yourself. He was apparently super professional with all of those aspects, something that will not only have Cobbo more consistent, but potentially reducing his chances of injury over his career. Imagine if Hodges has someone drilling that in to him younger (not like they didn't try though), he'd still be our current and greatest ever fullback!

Its a trial. Would rather have Reynolds fit and firing for round 1. They should have had more than ample time to practice the combinations at training.

Cobbo’s defence last year (centre) on Best in the Newcastle game was 10/10 so I’m confident he could make tackles at fullback when needed.
Unsure if defending on the wing and making decisions is foreign to him but he is a good defender at centre.

Remember that time when Boyd convinced a heap of the playing group to go vegetarian 😂

I look forward to Huge's post game analysis criticising Cobbo of everything he's refused to say about Isaako, although it's been blatantly obvious for a couple of years now that Isaako isn't a fullback's arsehole
The normal thing will happen. Every player that has a run at fullback will barely be noticed. Won't matter how poor they are, like Air Swing Nui , any blemishes will not even be commented on because it's not Isaako. When he didn't play we were appalling, when DB wasn't there we were still appalling but it didn't make any difference, just as long as it wasn't Isaako.

Fortunately fans aren't allowed to pick the team and how weird is it that Isaako keeps getting picked? I'd have given Isaako a shot at 5/8th ( in the trials ) but I'm just a fan.

One game at NRL level is still greater than 155,766 posts on BHQ. A career?
