you people in this thread have seriously lowered your standards

I'm not the least bit excited about signing Tronc ... he has always been a target around the rucks and a stint in England is probably only going to make him even slower

right now, I'm hoping we get the spoon forcing the changes that are long overdue ... and it would seem currently, we are a big chance of getting it

we need a new coach, new ceo, a bunch of new players and new recruitment staff ... we need to sack about 10 players and figure out strategies to lure the crowds back in 2011, because come round 20 this year we gonna see some poor crowds at Suncorp

On a brighter note, at least the boys had a dig tonight against the Dragons ... played decently, just outclassed - unlike their performance against the warriors a couple of weeks back which was a disgrace

Oink !

Brisbane should know within days whether prop Shane Tronc will be granted a release from Super League side Wakefield Trinity Wildcats to join them.

Wildcats coach John Kear has set a deadline of this week for the matter to be resolved. He confirmed Wildcats would be prepared to release Tronc from his two-year deal if a replacement front-rower could be brought in.

The list of possible recruits is believed to include James Stosic, who left Wakefield at the end of last season due to overseas quota restraints and is currently playing with Broncos affiliate side Easts Tigers.

``We haven't been able to find any replacement, so if he was to leave now it would purely be as a compassionate call,'' Kear told the Yorkshire Evening Post.``We need to have it resolved next week, that's the urgency of the situation not just for us. His demeanour is not one of a happy person. He is struggling.''

My pessimist side says that he will come and suck big time and be a waste of money.

If we have spare cap space we may as well use it.

That's true, still we shouldn't get too excited.
True but when the team is 1-4 you need something to get excited about [icon_razz1

I dont think he will be shit but somebody did make a good point about him playing in England and that the standard isnt as good over there. The only thing that worries me is the heat in Brisbane compared to what he is used to playing in in England. But hey he did play for the Cowboys in Townsville so lets hope it doesnt effect him to much.

I dont think Troncs is what you would call a Dynamic front rower like Moi Moi or Tolman but he is a work horse and i think thats what we need. Not somebody who throws flick passes and trys to step but somebody who is going to roll up his sleeves for 25mins and make the hard yards. We've got Thaiday, Gillet and Teo for the fancy running out wide stuff.

Pffft, it'll take him a week to acclimatise...no concerns there.

My concern is that Tronc has been utterly average for most of his career. Sure he was good last year, but one swallow doesn't make a summer and one good season doesn't make a career (unless you're Jarryd Hayne).

EDIT: I though while i was at it i would grab all of his stats (although we all know stats don't tell the whole story)

Appearances: 11
Tries : 2
Meters: 1499 (second in ESL); (avg: 136.27m per game)
Carries: 204 (forth in ESL); (avg: 18.5 per game)
Tackles: 254 (avg: 23 per game )
Offloads: 31 (first in ESL)
Missed Tackles: 20
Errors: 9

who else is a pretty basic front rower?

Webcke
Price
Civoniceva
Lazarus

4 of the best props of all time. flashy forwards are what you need AFTER youve got guys who will make 10m every time they carry the ball.

although im pretty sure last year he was a pretty handy offloader.

he had about 49 offloads in the NRL last season and he has 31 offloads in 11 games this season in the ESL (to lead the ESL in offloads)

You're getting me excited again, stop it :P I hope he does well when/if he comes over at end of month.

Cornerstones of every good pack. We were seriously lucky to have Both Civa and Webbie at the same time and its no coinsidence that QLD has gone so well over the last 4 (soon to be 5) years with Price and Civa up front. Tronc is a very similar styled player to all four!!

People should not be concerned over Tronc playing in England due to the standard over there. He's played only 6-7 games over there, it's hardly going to be a big shock to him when he returns.

Donny, Tronc is a pretty basic front rower. No real offloading ability, no ball skills, no step. But he is a metre eater and a hard worker, we need that in the front row. He is big, he gets things moving, he makes good metres and he's no fuss. That's what we need. Our backrow has a lot of ball skills and creativity in it (Thaiday, Teo, Gillett, Parker), so if Tronc, Anderson, Kenny can just get metres and roll things forward, then our backline will do the rest.

Lol thats exactly what i ment, i said we dont need another flashy foward we just need somebody who is going to show Kenny and Anderson how to make the hard yards and roll up the sleeves.

Like i mentioned we have Thaiday, Teo, Gillet, Setu and Glen for the flashy stuff.

tronc actually does have quite a good offload in him...
