V'landys talks the talk, is he about to walk the walk?

Perhaps bagging the coffee it too far. It's just another thing that Melbourne think they're better at. They all find their fav coffee, just like anywhere else on planet Earth, and that's where they go.

Ask any Victorian why they don't go to X, they will tell you the coffee is shit. No different to here. The difference is the person on the end of the cup just thinking Melbourne do everything better.

Again, I am not disagreeing with any of that but when it comes to coffee, it really is genuinely hard to find a bad coffee in Melbourne.

As a queenslander that lives in Melbourne I must side with the Melbourne people that the general standard of coffee is higher in Melbourne than other places. That's not to say that all the good places are in Melbourne. I find I can get cafe quality coffee at home with a Moka pot and a milk frother that can heat milk to a specific degree. A good coffee is really good beans, don't burn the coffee, don't burn the milk. Now some people will say putting milk in coffee is destroying it. There are also a lot of wankers who think the way they like it is the best way simply because that way is their preference.

The Melbourne population has an inflated opinion of themselves and their city. They presume that if something or someone comes from Melbourne it/they is automatically better. A lot of people pretending to be smart or experts when it is far from the case. People tend to be less inclined to laugh at themselves and think they are sophisticated when really they just live in Melbourne.

Nah. I still disagree. I have family in Melbourne who are coffee snobs too and until you get past the Melbourne is better bullshit, you soon realise that most coffee talk between Victorians is talking about how shit the coffee from this place and that place are.

It's not special. They have the same coffee, the same milk, the same machines, the same cups. Being a failed art student in Melbourne doesn't make you better at making coffee than it does if you were in Brisbane.

Again, this is not my experience and I have lived here on and off over the years. I am not a Melbournian and totally get the snobbiness you are talking about but when it comes to coffee, they get it right down here.

That said, you guys get it right in Brissy too, I love both places. Best coffee I ever had though was in Shanghai believe it or not.

Was it run by an Aussie? I have had good Coffee in Berlin, for example, but Berlin is like expat Aussie central. Also, Melbourne led the way for coffee in Australia. But I'm glad the trend spread in Oz. As I said, that snobbish attitude and competition is what has made coffee great in Australia.

I've generally had pretty poor coffee overseas, but did get some really nice coffee in Korea of all places. Most of them make starbucks style hot sweet seppo milkshake style coffee but one fella at a cafe near my ex wife apartment had studied in Australia and could make pretty good coffees.

V'landys is whinging about the AFL (due to them hosting this years GF at the Gabba)

talking about how the AFL are never going to become the number 1 sport in the state ... yadda yadda yadda

I got news for you Vlandy's ... you and the NRL have been taking QLD for granted for years ... BE CAREFUL

if anyone cares, here is what he said:

“They can huff and puff but they will never blow the house down because it’s solid brick,” he said.

“Our supporters are solid, they’re not straw. They can blow all they like but they won’t blow the brick wall down. Our rugby league supporters are strong, to say the least.

“All the huffing and puffing they are doing is not a concern.

“Queensland is part and parcel of rugby league. We’ve got the left arm in New South Wales and the right arm in Queensland. It’s a vital part of our game.

“Queensland is not just Brisbane. It’s from right up the top to the bottom.

“They can huff and puff and keep blowing but the brick house will stand.”

Vlandy's talks about the AFL GF being in Brisbane:

“It’s not of concern to us, good luck to the Queensland Government,” he said.

“It’s a one-off situation. It’s not going to translate.

“It’s like feeding meat to a vegetarian. The vegetarian might try it for a few minutes but then goes back to being a vegetarian.”

Talks about a turf war

“The AFL can steal whatever databases they want,” he said.

“It’s a flash in the pan. The AFL will never have another grand final in Queensland ever again.

“Who cares? Queensland is rugby league heartland. As if some Cowboys fan in Cairns is going to start following the Brisbane Lions? I don’t think so.

“The AFL can sell meat but the vegetarians won’t eat it.”
If the AFL wasn’t a threat why bother responding to obvious media bait? NRL is definitely worried about the griphold AFL could Easily take.

As someone wrote earlier about the ABC Horse Racing documentary, V'landys seems so slimy. He started deflecting to other side issues and it just looked gross. When he started the presser about Abdo with that stupid line about the GF in Cairns it was so petty and childish. But these childish bullies who have risen to the top by greasing the right palms and pointing fingers at others seem to be en vogue these days. The sooner this guy is out, the better.

I highly recommend watching the documentary but the interview starts at about the 35 minute mark. Thanks to @JAHHW for the recommendation.

You nailed it - he is so slimy.

He just looks slimy, but after watching that when it aired, I wouldn’t trust the bloke as far as I could throw him.

V'Landys is a clown, that's why. VFL's never going to be the major football code in QLD. Its numbers may swell as more southerners lie their way over the border to escape their virus-riddled homeland, and they'll certainly try to make everyone up here follow the Melbourne code. But aside from a few easily-led fools and glory-hunters we Queenslanders shan't buy into their wildly exaggerated claims of a better atmosphere (which says a lot about the quality of the on-field product if your best selling point is it's fun being around other people), all the knock-ons, fumbling and non-tackling you could ever want, plus you get to boo all the aboriginal players and the VFL will still pretend you're not a racist loser. It will always remain associated with the benighted south, where it's winter 8 months of the year and the locals resemble an inverted ouroboros where the tail is swallowing the snake.

Is that you Vlandys?

Here's hoping he goes the way of the last Tsar before too long.
Betrayed by greedy ***** who come up with a new system that brings everything crashing down and forming a new dark age that lasts decades? Sounds the way NRL is heading anyway.

For all the smoke that get blown up this guy’s butt and how great a job he’s doing as pontificated by the media, what has he ACTUALLY done to make the game better? Serious question because here is what I can see:

- Seems to have sold the game short on the next media deal which no one knows any details about but reduced salary caps, etc being spoken about implies it is a reduced deal
- Re-introduced one ref and the inherent inconsistency that comes with that
- Introduced a six again rule on the eve of a competition re-start which has seemingly produced a fairly boring product and heaps of extra long-term injuries
- Offended half the fan haze by insulting Qlders
- Allowed the Roosters to sign a superstar that other teams could have paid more for and dismissed suggestions of favouritism
- Even more inconsistency at the judiciary
- A blanket crushed tackle ban with no room for common sense
- Delivering an inferior product
- TV ratings going down alarmingly despite a virus situation where people should be flocking to the game on tv in droves
- Ignoring the very real threat from the AFL in its strongest market - Qld

And yet the media continues to sing his praises at a nauseating level. What am I missing? He seems to be doing an awful job.

It couldn't be simpler. He increases media company profits by short changing the NRL, in return they praise the shit he poops out to present a good image for him. Why wouldn't you want to keep the guy that gives you a good deal in the job.

He's more than just a guy who gives them a good deal, V'Landys was Fox's man from before he started. They were pushing hard for him a couple of years ago too. The entire league was sold off for cents in the dollar and most people didn't notice or care because Matty Johns kept showing that clip of Peter Beattie not recognising some soccer jersey which obviously means he doesn't know about the NRL.
