I dont see him as a 7 personally. My gut feeling is if he moves to the halves its as a 6. I dont really see Mam as one either but like you say , its early days. I do think if we invest our time again in Walsh its as a 1.
I could see a Walsh/Mam halves combination working similar to Munster/Hughes, where both are probably more suited to running than organising. Lot of maturing to do yet though.

Look I am full and well expecting Haas to leave whether that’s end of the year, end of contract whatever. I just went onto the Warriors forum and some of the funniest shit ever. They think they will be getting Haas from this. I have news for them Payne isn’t leaving the Broncos to go to the Warriors. He will be going to the chooks or someone who can have an ideal mixture of pay and win.

Pete O’Sullivan must have left on bad terms at the Warriors. I think there was some chat earlier when he went to the dolphins that the warriors were worried that he knew who was on what and who had clauses etc.
We’ve helped the warriors a fair bit lately and I think this is more of a Reece wants to go home situation rather then chasing the massive $.
I have no doubt Ikin and DD would only sign off on this if it’s good value for the club. I’d say they have seen a significant shift in attitude from Reece since he left early last year.
Many seem to forget we released Reece last year when we really had no obligation to.
Hopefully we keep them all, but somethings got to give. I hope it’s not the love bug.
I'm going to throw out a conspiracy theory - what if this was the plan all along. We didn't feel like he was ready for first grade but he thought he was and wanted an opportunity. We allowed him to go to the Warriors on the condition that he came back to us at the end of his contract (obviously coming back early). It would of been a great move for us and Walsh. Walsh gets a bigger salary and NRL experience vs Q cup experience, while staying in QLD and we also got to see how he went in NRL without any risk. Plus our cap was in such a mess back then that this would of made it hard to fit him under the cap once he needed to be upgraded. We pushed that liabilty to the Warriors for a few years. This would explain why we let him go early for nothing in return and why Warriors are only allowing him to negotiate with us.

The counter argument would be why didn't we just loan him to the Warriors like we have with Arthurs. Well correct me if I'm wrong but was this before the NRL started allowing player loans? Maybe there is a time frame limit to loans.

I think Harry Grant was on loan at the Tigers before Reece left. Technically, they arent loans. They just take over the contract for 12 months then go back to their parent clubs.

Maybe that's why we didn't do it because we knew this was going to be longer than a year so made a back door deal and said you can have him for a few years but we want him back and all parties agreed.

As long as we don't lose Herbie, I'm really excited about this. If it results in losing Herbie, this sucks.

I see a lot of merit in a plan of transitioning to a Walsh/Mam halves pairing down the line. I have said it before but there is a lot of JT in the way Mam plays, I reckon he is a much better chance of making it as a 7 than Milf because he has the work ethic and is competitive. This would allow Cobbo to continue to develop through the backline into eventually our 1 when Reynolds retires.

As other have said, we could have an amazing nucleus moving forward:

1. Walsh -> Cobbo
3. Staggs -> Staggs/Mariner
4. Herbie/Cobbo -> Herbie/Mariner/Cobbo
6. Mam -> Walsh
7. Reynolds -> Mam
9. Paix -> Mozer
8. Haas -> Flegler
13. Carrigan -> Carrigan

And then you have all our other gun kids to fill in around with the likes of Riki, Hetherington, Robati, Willison, Te Kura, etc

The plan could be; we have cobbo until end of 2025 and we sign walsh for 2 years (to the end of 2025). We may then be deciding then who he go forth with as our fullback.

This will give cobbo time to find his voice, learn the game and improve his footy IQ. We have seen this process work well with GI and latrell, both who played in the centres for a couple years first.

If we choose cobbo at fullback, we may then decide to retain walsh as a half or let him walk.

Alternatively, cobbo may want to remain a centre and walsh a fullback.

The benefit is that they are both young and we can take our time making decisions.

It is only really the media (and some fans who seem obsessed with tinkering with player positions) that want to push for cobbo to transition to fullback so soon.

There is no real rush to do so.

Yep, I’ e heard plenty of talk that left centre rather than FB will be his long term position, probably means we lose Herbie, but we can’t keep everyone and have others coming through like Mariner we din’t want to lose either.

Good headaches for Kev anyway. Pity we can’t get Walsh this year, seemingly…

Honestly not even mad whichever way this falls. While Herbie isn't proven at FB yet, he's just a better overall footballer imo compared to Walsh. If Dolphins manage to snag him last minute and give him an offer he can't refuse so be it. We'll be more than fine.

There's no getting away from the fact he left because he didnt want to put in the hard yards, he wanted a shortcut to the NRL. Hopefully he's learned his lesson.
This is where i am at. All for giving him a second chance. But he did jump ship when we were at our lowest so my trust in the bloke is very low.
I have loved what Ikin/DD/Walters have done with this team in the past 2 years by removing the entitled rot and self serving fuckwits from the team. They are slowly but surely turning the toxic culture around and i hope bringing Walsh back isnt a step in the wrong direction. As others have said though, he is a young fella so there is hope.

I don't mind if we lose Herbie. Don't get me wrong, as a centre, I will take Herbie over almost anyone. But I don't think he's a fullback at all. We've been down this road with Josh Hoffman where a great winger wants to be a poor fullback or he's gonna cause issues.

The thing I've learnt about young halfs; you have to give them time.

What if; we gave Dearden a extra 12 months development? Its a moot point now but the Cowboys let him take his lumps last season, look at him now!

I think back to when we let him leave, even to when Walsh was released, and then look today - we are talking about 2 completely different Broncos teams.

Today, we have a environment that will show patience, has the correct winning culture and high standards for its players and staff.

That matters a lot. I've no doubt that if Mam and Cobbo had debuted with us the same time Dearden did....neither would still be here.

This is the club that Recce Walsh will be coming back to..

I can see Herbie leaving. No way he gets a shot at fullback now. Cobbo to centre where he will dominate and terrorise opponents
