Regardless of what happens over the next 10 years, every Bronco fan should be very happy in the knowledge that after 6 years of mediocre performances and doubts about our teams ability to win a premiership, next year, we're once again going to be in a position where the entire code are going to look at our squad on paper being coached by Wayne Bennett and they're going to collectively shit themselves.

I truly believe Bennett can turn Hunt, Milford, McGuire, McC and yes even Barba into competition superstars because that is just what he does and when you factor in that those young blokes will be buoyed by the likes of Parker, Thaiday, Hodges and Hannant.....Well, you would have to be out of your goddamn mind to be a Broncos supporter and not be optimistic.

And what has changed since then?

It seems that people with a healthy grudge/agenda against Bennett have a great knack for completely ignoring what has been going on at Newcastle over the past couple years. It has hardly been ideal.

The fact he has had 2 terrible years and one decent at Newcastle as opposed to having just come of a premiership and two consecutive minor premiership with St George would cause the differences between my position now, and what it may have been in your hypothetical.

As a fan of the broncos, I don't want to see us in a similar position to the knights in a few years time. I'm not saying that will happen, but it took us this long to get over WB last time.

While last year was a very poor showing, we have shown we can play good footy under Hook. He's had to start with a young squad, and now that they are growing and maturing into a decent footy side, he gets churned out before we can see it all come together.

I think we should have continued with Hook.

Just my opinion.

Agreed with next years prospects...

I dont understand all the negativity surrounding Bennett's appointment.

Were bring back an 8 time premiership winning coach people!!!!!

Have you guys been living under a rock for the past 5 years? Weve been mediocre at best, weve had 1 ordinary coach and 1 whose persistence to play a winger at 5/8 highlighted one of many many floors.

To those who think the likes of Bellamy, Hasler etc would have been an option are dreamers.

Anybody who thinks WB 2013 performance will have any bearing on how were coached next seasoned is a dead-set moron.

After a tumultuous year, whereby

- players wernt paid,
- some players verbally abused,
- Alex disaster,
- newly recruited player being jailed
- Injuries to key players
- Ordinary cast

etc, quite frankly I'm surprised they did as well as they did, we should be embracing the fact that the best coach to EVER coach in the NRL is returning home. Along with his man management, BOH managerial prowess, his appointment will ensure we re-establish the culture and jersey respect lost over the past 5 years.

I for one cant wait, let the new regime begin.

you conradict yourself here ...

first you say "How the **** do we know what happened behind the scenes?" then you go on with a bunch of assumptions and guesses about how things may or may not have happened.

so i'll ask you this: how the **** do you know that what happened wasn't exactly as has been reported in the media?. i.e. that Wayne Bennett decided that he wanted to be back at the Broncos and instead of phoning the board to offer his services, rany the News Corp boss, Murdoch to ensure he got exactly what he wanted.

How the **** is that that a contradiction ? Did I say two things that were different or at opposites ? No, I put forward a possible scenario that CONTRADICTS other peoples jaundiced view. You really should learn to read. I put forward an alternative view for consideration based on the scant information gleaned from the media. It is certainly much more in line with the type of person most see Wayne Bennett as. It is no more improbable than the crazy idea that WB has the power to demand or tell one of the worlds most powerful and rich business people what he wants, how much he is going to get and when he fucking well wants it to happen.....only a hater could think that more likely. Of course those thousands of people who think WB is an honourable man are probably all fooled, it's more likely some cyber warrior who knows best.

I've liked this move less and less as time has gone by. I've got a bad feeling about it.

Ask any NRL club who they'd rather have as head coach.... Bennett or Hook.

I for one am happy he's coming back.

i know its a anonymous poll but how could anyone possibly vote for No - Griffin is the right choice. Anyone care to give reasons why you voted for it?

I was one who voted no. That may surprise a few who know me but my reasons being:
- I think there has been enough upside this season to justify Hook being given at least until the end of the season to prove he is the best option going forward. He's developed Ben Hunt into one of the game's elite playmakers. He has shown he has learnt from previous mistakes with one example being swapping Barba and Hoffman around now, instead of making changes when our season was practically over like in previous seasons. He is becoming more willing to drop players who aren't performing well e.g. Kennedy (although he could still improve in this area e.g. Reed).

He's got us running 6th in a very competitive competition, and could quite easily be equal second if we had a bit of luck go our way in a few games earlier in the season.

We boast wins against 3 of the other 7 sides in the top 8 (Manly, Bulldogs, Warriors). 1 other we haven't played yet (Storm). The other 3 (Panthers, Souths, Roosters) we were in positions to win, but just lacked that bit of experience to close them out, something that can be fixed with experience. So we are mixing it with the best teams.

So others may not agree that Hook deserves a chance over the rest of the season to prove himself, and I completely understand why they would have that opinion and won't sit here arguing with them, but those are the reasons behind my no vote.

Yeh because every team is so fucking scared of facing the knights this year. Please. Talk about over exaggerating.

What has made you feel like that?

As ridiculous as it sounds not that Hook has been sacked I feel that he has done a bloody good job this year. Nobody had us in the top 8 with our halves situation but we are 6th and probably should be higher if not for a few loses in the last 5 minutes. I also just don't really like Bennett coming back. I am 50/50 on the move tbh. We need to get over him.

Thing is we are sixth, with 7 rounds to go and a really tough run. We dropped the games we should have won and really there is no guarantee we will even make the 8.

We had a good win because hook finally named the best side... 19 rounds in.

IMHO hook has done a mediocre job but the drama surrounding this all has hidden that

I've read most of this now without comment because normally when something huge blows up there is no point- no one is reading people are just writing rumours!

Bennett has a clear pattern at clubs going back to the start of the Broncos, he gets players to try and get immediate success and assembles a team he needs to have a crack first up while the future develops. At the Broncos the likes of Lewis represented his short term future and a once only crack at winning. The premiership side bar Kevvie, Gillmiester and Lazo were already at the club and would win a competition 5 years later.

The Raiders he left them with nearly a whole side he had developed or had a hand in from Brisbane or his time at the QRL and they would play in three of the next four Grand Finals after he left with a lot of those players.

The Dragons he had to change a whole set up and again got the side he wanted for a quick win and then structures in place to ensure long term success. The systems he set up are still bringing players through and because the NRL side has had a few rough years doesn't mean he left them in bad shape.

The Knights, he did it again, tried for quick win with guys he knew could get him there and coach the younger guys to win, while setting up systems. It hasn't come through for a variety of reasons and he hasn't seen it out.

Even Souths the second time he assembles the exact side he needed to beat Wynnum and then job done he was gone.

Which again isn't a shock, he has left the Raiders, Broncos and Knights under contract.

I thought that yesterday morning as well. It is ridiculous how my mind has changed. Hook has done plenty wrong but he deserves plenty of credit for things he has done as well.

I am being serious when I ask this - have you recently suffered a head injury?

How is our squad for next year in any way shape or form as terrible as the knights?

Get some god damn perspective.

Well the bookies have already got the Broncs as favourites for 2015, thanks to Wayne.

WAYNE Bennett’s return as head coach of the Broncos from next year has had an immediate effect on betting markets with Brisbane installed as 2015 premiership favourites.

Despite a less than stellar season with the Knights, Bennett is still considered the best coach in the business and capable of returning the Broncos to their former glory.

Bennett guided the Broncos to six premierships during his 21 years at the club in his first stint and Tabcorp have him as the $5 favourite to deliver a seventh next year.

Bennett will take charge of a Broncos team that will welcome the most exciting young player in the game to the club next season in Anthony Milford.

I can see the good and bad of Bennett arriving. I just hope he doesn't rip apart the team we have because I feel the Milford inclusion could be all we really need. Also I don't think Bennett will go down the same plan as he has with the Knights and Dragons. He won't want to leave the club in a mess this time. He will want to have us set up for more premierships once he leaves. That is all apart of his legacy. He will want a Premiership in the next 3 years though.
