Should Wayne Bennett's Contract be Extended?

The more articles like this that come out with Bennett quotes jizzing over South Sydney just makes it all the more apparent he needs to go. You don’t see Seibold coming out talking about how much he loves the Broncos and can’t wait to get here etc.

Just go now, Wayne.

That’s old man Wayne for you. It’s all about him. It sounds like he’s more excited about the burgess brothers than the return of a player who’s had a neck fracture.

In my opinion, Wayne / Seibs swap in 2020 is better than a swap in 2019.

Wayne is contractually aligned to the Bronx in 2019, it'd be a god darn shame if we didn't let the man see out his contract. After all that he has done for us, he doesn't deserve to be kicked out.

Let him have his last hoorah, give him a fitting send off, then bring on a fresh mentality with [HASHTAG]#Seibs2020[/HASHTAG]

We know he's doing it to force our hands, but all he's doing is talking about Souths. If he truly wanted to see it out, he'd be saying 'Yes I've signed there for 2020 but we still have next season to go, so I won't be talking about Souths unless it's the week we're playing them. The club's made it's decision, as have I, and that's all there is. No further comments'

But he isn't. Everything has always been on Wayne's time, and he's earned that right in some respects, but the club finally had some balls to not renew his contract, so don't pander to him now and let the circus continue. It'll piss players off, but they're professionals and if they want to leave, let them go as well.

He openly criticised and had a hatred for the media, I don’t blame him.
He is now cleverly using that very same communication as a means to an end. He wants out.
Interesting to see what Seibold has to say and how he handles himself if and when he is announced as the coach of the already greatest club in the NRL.

Yep, and add to this that he usually says **** all to the media yet now he can’t keep his mouth shut, just **** off.

It's a game chicken now. I'm happy for the exchange to happen immediately, but don't won't a payout for Bennett, not when he's going to another gig. Rabbits could easily extend his deal to 3 years for the same result

While I do agree with you, AS doesn't officially have the job yet does he?

That's what concerns me. Another club could still easily swoop in with a big money offer and snatch him out from under us yet. Of particular concern is Parramatta. Brad Arthur has to be walking on eggshells down there at this point.

Surely Seibold isn’t that dumb. Parra are a rabble and will be for a few years yet. I can see the challenge side of it, but if Brisbane are courting you, you don’t have a decision to make

That won’t happen.

The people who run our club are idiots but they're not that stupid

Not that you are bagging the Wayne here but I have seen a few posters using ‘the best club in the nrl’ tag, and some have even used it as a way to disparage players who may want to follow Wayne. These posters seem to be forgetting that we were unanimously considered an average club under every coach but Wayne.

Lol an average club with the biggest crowds, biggest tv ratings, only club to make a profit every year and therefore richest club, the great facilites were getting built, ect ect.... none of the points raised were any different when he was away, we still were in a better position then any other club to give a player what they needed and were still located in brisbane with the biggest supporter base? We just werent winning due to it being the henjak-griffin era. In fact, i would say it highlighted how strong we are and how stable a club it is. Under paul white our profits and off field attributes improved while we were getting worse results during this period. So Im not even sure what ypure getting at?

on field performance was average ... the rest was still number 1 ... if you ask non-Bronco fans then we are still "average"

The difference with the Seibold appointment is that this time it wasn't rushed (like Griffin) or bombed (like Henjak)

Bennett is nearly 70! we were always going to have to move on from him eventually. if we waited another year, we could have ended up with another numpty coach

Your clearly referring to our team rather then club. In that sense have we not been fairly average under his guidance this year particularly in defence?
As a club our last home game ( thrashing ) drew 45,000 plus. No other club in the competition can do that. I said that in reference to Richardson with Wayne saying they would make Souths the greatest club in the competition over the next five years.

Bennettʼs Rabbitohs primed to poach Pangai Jnr

OCTOBER 27, 2018
TEVITA Pangai Jr has emerged as South Sydney’s first Broncos recruitment target, with the Rabbitohs hoping unwanted coach Wayne Bennett can lure the Tongan sensation to Redfern.
The Courier-Mail can reveal Pangai Jr is on South Sydney’s hit-list of potential 2020 signings following confirmation from the Broncos forward he will only sign a one-year deal to remain in Brisbane.
Bennett will join the Rabbitohs on a two-year deal from 2020 and the pulling power of the seven-time premiership winning coach is expected to deliver big-name signings at South Sydney.
The likes of Broncos stars Pangai Jr, NSW Origin centre James Roberts, prop Matt Lodge and captain Darius Boyd have been open about the influence Bennett has had on their decision to join the Broncos.
The Rabbitohs launched an unsuccessful raid on Broncos young gun Jaydn Su’A this season, but with Bennett at the helm they could have the power to land Pangai Jr.
Pangai Jr,22, phoned Bennett while playing for Canberra to express his desire to be coached by him at the Broncos.
And the fact he will only sign a one-year deal to remain at the Broncos in 2019 will allow the Rabbitohs to launch a poaching bid, regardless of whether Bennett is personally involved in luring Pangai Jr south.
Rabbitohs boss Shane Richardson said Bennett would give the 2014 NRL premiers enormous clout in the recruitment market.
“Wayne has pulling power with players,” he said.
“Most of our players are signed for 2019 We’re in the middle of negotiations with (Test hooker) Damien Cook, but Wayne will only help keeping him.
“The Burgess twins (Tom and George) are off-contract and they love being under Wayne in the England team so that is another plus for us.
“Wayne tells me he is committed to the Broncos next year and that’s fine with us. We’re happy with the status quo.”
“We’ll see what happens after that.”
Bennett, 68 coached England to a 18-16 Test match win over New Zealand early yesterday.
The coach behind Brisbane’s six premierships claimed there were players at the Broncos solely because of him.
“There’s a number of players at the Broncos who have come specifically there to play because I’m the coach,” he said.
“I’m not going to be the coach after 2019 but they’re all big boys now and they’ve grown up so they’ll have to make their own decisions about what they want to do.”
While Boyd followed Bennett to the Dragons and Knights, it is unlikely he will join Bennett at South Sydney.
