Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Is there something else you want your winger to be doing?

The main critisism I have of Boyd is when he plays wing for QLD is he doesn't seem like one of those wingers who can turn a half chance in to a try. Most, if not all, of his tries already seem to be setup before he gets the ball and there isn't much work for him to do other than run over the line or dive on the ball.

I look back at the no try in one of the origin games where Morris held him up and wonder if a better winger (or at least a full time winger) may have been able to score that somehow. Maybe I'm being optomistic that it coudl have been a try, but it just doesn't seem like Boyd can use speed, strength or aerial skills to turn those half chances in to tries.

I guess I understand what you're trying to get it, but it's completely retarded. Boyd has done more than enough at origin level to remain in the team, plenty of players didn't warrant their origin selection coming into a series based on their club form, yet they perform well on the main stage regardless.

Once again, it has nothing to do with Boyd that Queensland has no other good wingers, he's done the job at that level, and that's why he's still there.

(I feel like you're just going to reply with the same crap again, it's like I'm talking to an Anti-Boyd brick wall)

Of course its not his fault but this argument came about because you asked me if Hoffman would be picked on the qld wing.

If QLD hadnt enjoyed the success it has OR we had actual better options, then Boyd probably wouldnt be on the wing, so your "Hoffman couldnt make the qld side" theory was a moot point.

Boyd has been good for QLD on the wing. Safe, reliable, good finisher...

Inglis hasn't set him up in years. In fact Inglis hasn't really been good himself in years.

Thurston using Inglis as a decoy to draw the defence... its still someone else doing all the work

You realise it wasn't even me who said that right... you're arguing with the wrong person dude, LOL.

Maybe just replace Inglis with Thurston more recently then.

How many tries does Boyd actually score at origin level where you don't think he's already going to score before the ball even gets in to his hands?

I agree with you. Boyds been safe, reliable and finished the tries he's been asked to finish, but his try tally at origin level is a bit misleading whenever someone attempts to use it in an argument as to how good a player he is.

Maybe it wasnt you who asked the original question, i dont give a shit. You questioned my point about boyd only being there for particular reasons, despite his form. I gave you reasons, and you still didnt get it. Cant explain it any further to u

Re: Darius Boyd return?

@Jason Simmons, it will be a very bad thing if Bennett plans on playing him at 5/8, we just finished playing one winger there, now the speculation is that Bennett plans to play another winger there.

If it does happen (Boyd to 5/8), it will re-enforce what i've (and some other people on the anti-Bennett train) have been saying, the poor selections everyone hates Griffin making, will continue under Bennett.

all so Boyd can stay attached to Bennetts teet

I agree. I meant that he can play 5/8 in the way that Inglis CAN play 5/8 if necessary. I'm not suggesting he should or will play 5/8.

I do think everyone needs to calm down a touch over this. Bennett picked Boyd at 5/8 this year for the Knights. It didn't work so he put him back to fullback. One thing Bennett is not and has never been is overly loyal to players to the detriment of the team overall - Griffin-style.

If something isn't working, Bennett DOES change things.

I understand what you're trying to say, I just don't agree with it, sorry.

It's a team game dude, not every winger can single handedly beat 5 players to score amazing origin tries, there's very few players in the game today who can do that.. On behalf of Darius I'd like to apologize that he's not Jarryd Hayne.

I agree that if we had a fully fit Jharal & Israel still around today, Darius wouldn't be playing origin, but alas, they aren't.

Thats... my.... point

He's there for lack of better options. Took us a while to get there but we are on the same page now

I have few issues with Mason coming if he does. No because I like him or even think he'll be good but because we obviously need a bench prop. That we are playing Parker at 10 and Hala hasn't come on means theres a need there. Not thrilled if is willie but perfectly understandable why a coach would go with a player he likes.

However, the need for Boyd is exactly zero. We have Barba and Milford, both have oodles of talent and whilst Barba has been poor it's no more so than Boyd. We also have classic halves coming up like Taylor. So why do we need Boyd? To be an above average winger at 500k a year? No we don't need that either.

I really don't give a **** if WB signs ex players who play positions where we aren't the best but Boyd plays exactly zero of them.

Thats wrong tho. Boyd hasnt been working at Knights the entire year. Gidley's best position is fullback. Gidley has been playing out of position all year to accomodate boyd and is only now getting his best position back because boyd is out.

I never disagreed with that.. my point was that it's not his fault that we have no wing depth, and also that he's done a pretty damn good job regardless.

Glad we're on the same page though..

That was me. And if QLD were struggling and Hoffman was eligible and all the future reading stars aligned and your tea leaves look clear, Hoffman wouldn't make any difference and more than likely wouldn't be selected.. (Quick someone agree with me because that's what makes people right around here..)

Mason would be such a dud signing.

Did some of you forget that we just signed a bloke by the name of Mitch Garbutt? He's coming into fulfill the bench prop role and given the depth the Broncos have in that position currently, I don't see the need to go ahead and sign a hack like Mason.

Haha bench prop role.. Ok Anthony Griffin ;)

I don't know what you're having difficulty grasping here but the concept of using a player predominately off the bench isn't foreign nor is it exclusive to Griffin.

Before you start, I know what you're trying to say and it had nothing to do with my point. All these petty posts are really bringing the mood of this board down and quite frankly ruining whatever reasonable discussion that can take place on this board.

You're right, I definitely feel the petty posts are ruining my time on this board. But I figure if you can't beat them you may as well join them :)

Also I was getting at the fact that we always just have one bench prop. We need more than one.
