What Do You Want To See?

Can't believe the dissing that Hodges is getting in this thread...overpaid...replaced at origin level!!! The guy is showing career best form, he is basically the only reason we score points. He is clearly classier than any other player we have 1-5. You can tell the guy turns up and gives 100% for his club each and every game. Pay off!!!

I don't think he should be replaced at the Broncos yet, or that is overpaid (I'm not even sure how much he earns)... but I definitely don't think he should be playing Origin. He's never really been good in it. But he's still an automatic selection by Mal for some reason.

Probably because he and Inglis are light years ahead of the rest... :001_rolleyes:

Overpaid? if you go by media numbers he's on 100k less than what Norman has reported to be getting next year at Parra!

Tate has been so much better than him for QLD. Wright said Hodges gives it his all for Brisbane. Tate gives it his all for QLD.

norman being grossly overpaid doesnt mean hodges isnt overpaid.

i admit hes been in good form for us the last 12 months, but compare him to the other strike centres and theyre on another level. when hodges plays well he plays brilliantly, but he doesnt do it nearly as often as he should. i mean, he had a great first half on friday but a shocker of a second half. compare his game to gagais last night - night and day difference. every time gagai got the ball he looked like breaking the line.

and like Alec said, Hodges in origin is, to use a BHQ favourite term, a myth. hes scored an intercept try for us, given nsw 2 tries, and thats pretty much his origin career highlights summed up. hes just never made an impact in state of origin.

willie tonga has been better for QLD than Hodges. Tate has been 10000000x, at least, better than Hodges for QLD. paul bowman was better for QLD than hodges.

hopefully the selectors get the balls to go with a gagai/inglis combination if gagai keeps up his form.

Hodges also scored a what's now illegal try in Origin :P

However, I think you're overly harsh. I can't think of too many strike centres that are better than him. Josh Morris in current form, yes. Michael Jennings at his best, maybe. Jamie Lyon probably. But now Inglis is playing fullback, that's about it.

As far as club centres go, he's outstanding, and certainly not a class below the best.
If he can be fit and on the field as much as he was last year, that's only good news for the Broncos.

no doubt, but for a 31 year old whos averaged 10 games a season and who was outscored by alex glenn the last 2 seasons, hes overpaid IMO.

Now compare the opposition as well, Tigers played like garbage and the Knights took advantage. If Gagai was playing outside the crap the Broncos halves dished out on friday night he wouldn't of done shit.

Hodges sets up a lot of tries too. Hell, he has 100% of our try assists this season :P

maybe, maybe not.

gagai was getting the ball with nothing happening, and would just use footwork and pure pace to get around/through people. yes the tigers played absolutely dreadfully, but gagai killed it anyway.

Coxy, believe me i know - hes in my fantasy footy team and he killed it for me because of those linebreak assists/try assists. he was on 66 points for me at half time, but had a shocker of a second half - only ended on 81.

We lack the forward size of previous seasons/generations in order to execute the current "bash them up the middle" game plan.

We have a playmaker now capable of fringe forward/second receiver edge play. We have Glenn, Gillett, Hodges and Thaiday. A + B = win

I want to see the Broncos try to win by being more skillful instead of bigger ad stronger.

bigger and stronger worked well........in 2000 when we had unlimited interchange.

Game plan is a huge issue.

the broncos game plan is bash it up the middle for 5 tackles, then give it to wallace to scratch his arse until he either gets tackled with it for a handover or puts up a bomb with no chasers.

the thing is - i DONT think we have the forward size. thaiday is a shell of his former self. gillett and glenn are skillful wide ball runners but they arent going to bash it up the middle. parker will be consistent for us but he wont dent the line. mcguire is about the only guy who can smash it up the middle. hannants not showing alot yet.. hopefully he gets going. dodds gets driven back every time he takes it up. anderson well..

when you combine that with maccas half-an-hour ruck skills we are just going to get beaten in the middle of the park more often than not.
