What Do You Want To See?

yeh to be honest our pack is pretty shoddy. only ones i rate are Glenn, McGuire and Parker. the rest are nuffies at this stage, and arent looking like improving.

we persist with a gameplan that doesnt work with our roster, just like we persist with a roster that doesnt have what it takes.

Can't believe the dissing that Hodges is getting in this thread...overpaid...replaced at origin level!!! The guy is showing career best form, he is basically the only reason we score points. He is clearly classier than any other player we have 1-5. You can tell the guy turns up and gives 100% for his club each and every game. Pay off!!!

Don't try to understand it... It doesn't make sense

Nearly everyone has gone backwards since Lockyer left. Hoffman and Gillett in particular., and probably Hodges. Then, they were getting positioned and getting the ball, and playing excellent footie. Now, they are lost sheep, like the rest of the team.

The only hope is to build a game plan around Prince , with obviously Norman, Wallace and Macca as the "spine" but for mine, Given a few more games, Prince will start getting more edge runners involved, as well as himself, and on his game, he is still a very dangerous attacking half.

So I want to see Prince do what he is, and what we all know what he is capable of doing, given the right game plan, and that should take at least 3-4 more games I reckon before we see real forward motion, or, well, we will most likely be dead in the water for yet another season until we find a decent play maker/organizer/leader.

(Out of interest, does anyone remember that fantastic game we played against the Dragons in 2011 I think, under Henjak haha, when we sat them on their arses and walked all over them? That's what I want to see - every week).

Watched the Canberra game from rd7 last year. Now yes it was Canberra who are one of the more inconsistent teams plus they lost Campo at halftime, but I really think that was one of our best games last year.

Hunt and Norman complimented each other well, set up and scored a lot of times between them. The backs got plenty of ball and there was some good passing movements

Basing the team off one game might seem foolish or short-sighted but here's what I'd like to see:

1. Hoffman
2. Kemp
3. Kahu
4. Hodges
5. Maranta
6. Norman
7. Hunt
8. Hannant
9. Macca
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Prince/Wallace
15. Gillett
16. Reed/ J. Wallace / B. Gibb
17. Hala (when fit, when not one of the above two guys)

I believe this is our best lineup. It'll secure our long term future and give us plenty of options. If attack falters, Prince/PWal can come on and either give Macca a break or he can even move to the halves for a bit and Hunt can go there. Defence won't suffer to badly as he's still there. Left edge might be a bit raw but you can't win them all

So let me get this straight. There are still people who want to see more juniors in the side.

We have a side of shitty juniors, lets replace them with shitty juniors.

Juniors need leadership and good players to set examples. We don't have many.

I want everyone (club and supporters) to realise that we have just had one of if not the greatest players to lace a boot retire. Last year doesn't count as we had that strange early streak but fell in a heap not long after. I'm happy to have some old hands like hodges, Wallace and the like to be there to help steady the ship but I also want all the young guys to be given a decent go. How refreshing is it when you watch a team like the raiders when they have a virtual 20s team running around.

It's all about getting the right balance IMO.

Every youngster out there in the NRL is going to be different - just because they aren't shit hot in their first season or two, it doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be useless for their entire career. Goes both ways too - there's been plenty of young fellas come through the ranks and leave big impressions in their first season or two, then completely fall off the grid.

It's been said a few times in this thread - to give our young guys the best chance to succeed, they need some experienced players showing them the ropes. That said, sometimes I wonder just how much desire some of our 'prospects' have. Perhaps a few of them think they've 'made it' once they make their first grade debut and then they let their game drop... who knows.

All need to remember that the cap is getting bigger than it ever has been. The figures bandied around are rising with the times. I assume Hodgo is still somewhere around the 300k mark, and it does seem absurd that Norman would get considerably more at this point. But its just the state of the game currently.

What do I want to see ?

1. My team start the season showing us what they have worked on in the long off-season. A move or two. Something different in attack. We beat the Dragons, but they are gonna run 15th.

2. The following on field changes -

*Glenn made captain immediately. Sam is not a captain. He is not a front rower for that matter.
*Norman to left centre for an extended period. I seem to remember him playing a few games there and looking ok.
*Hunt to a new club.
*Wallace turned into a hooker slowly. And this year is a good time to start while Prince is here.
*Gillett to the bench permanently.
*Reed to the backrow.
*Timu given a shot off the bench now. Limited minutes to start. Unless he or Hala come good semi immediately, we are a decent big man short in my view. And this was before Maguire went down. Anderson is rubbish.

3. We pretty much have to take a punt on Dugan. He is exactly the type of player we need on the footy side of things. Can bust the line and has good pace. Like all, i wish his attitude didn't suck. But back ended contract and strict clauses on behaviour. Also, make him shave. Can we make him wear arm sleeves ? He could play for us for 10 years if we get his head right. He could play a lot of origin etc in that time. Within 3 years of good behaviour be a big star in Brisbane and get all the benefits.

4. Failing this. We do need to enter the player market. Over estimating the ability in our crop of players coming through is not so bad and can happen. But not recognising the fact and persevering with all of them is.

5. I don't know if Hook is that bad and don't necessarily want him fired. I do think we can now see that he is no super coach however. The coach is not counted toward the cap. For soooo long we have been told how successful and wealthy our club is. Never in financial difficulty. A rival for the biggest clubs of any code in the country. Although many around here disagreed with me at the time, we should have thrown whatever it took to get Bellamy some years back. Pre-Henjak I think it was. Its too late for him now as he talks of retirement and is more than settled and signed up. But ffs spend up on the coach if the occasion presents itself. Get the best in the business.

Cheers
Oink !

Although many around here disagreed with me at the time, we should have thrown whatever it took to get Bellamy some years back.

From Lockyer's book:

When the Broncos began looking for a replacement for Wayne for the 2009 season and beyond, Ivan's was not the first name put forward.

Craig Bellamy was the name on everyone's lips. Wayne's right-hand man in both the 1998 and 2000 premiership wins, Bellamy had long been touted as the heir apparent to Wayne's throne at the Broncos.

Bellyache had more than proved his worth as an NRL head coach during his time in charge of the Melbourne Storm. He was coming off contract and still had family living in south-east Queensland. With Melbourne and Brisbane both owned by News Limited, everything had appeared in place to make the move happen.

I didn't speak to anyone within the Broncos management while negotiations were taking place, because I didn't feel the need. There were a number of candidates who had been floated for the position - Kevie Walters, Daniel Anderson, Neil Henry, Ivan Cleary and Ricky Stuart had all been tossed up. But I assumed, given the club's status and the fact Wayne clearly felt he was being pushed towards the exit, that not only would they be looking for the best, they would quite likely already have secured their signature. And outside of Wayne, Craig was the best.

As we now know, the men in charge of the appointment - managing director Bruno Cullen and chairman Darryl Somerville - missed their man. To this day I am still not sure where it all went wrong, because as I understood things, the Bellyache to Brisbane deal was done. In early April the word I was being told was that it was all over bar the shouting and that Craig was just being careful with managing his exit from Melbourne.

I am unsure what sparked the about-face which saw him sign a five-year extension on April 17 to remain at the Storm. I have heard Craig was upset with the way he was spoken to by one Broncos official involved in the interview process when he was reportedly being given an ultimatum about how and when things would be announced.

Now, anyone who knows Bellyache knows he is not the sort of bloke who will be pushed around by anyone. If you have seen the footage during a game of his reactions in the coach's box, you understand he has a short fuse and is certainly no shrinking violet. He isn't the sort of bloke who would react well to ultimatums or anything he felt resembled bullying tactics. And so it was that Bellyache stayed down south.

very interesting. time to move on I suppose.

Bruno was an absolute cancer on our club, which we still haven't recovered from.

I have no doubt under a more diplomatic CEO we would have continued to flourish rather than flounder.

What if Petero wasn't shafted? What if Bellamy was our coach for the last 4 years?

Bellamy would have turned us into genuine premiership contenders again.
