What is happening at the Broncos?

I completely disagree with this. Outside of lacking a game manager, we definitely have a top 4 roster in terms of individual quality.
I think you're doing the same thing The broncos coaching and recruitment staff do. You're basing this on everyone at their peak...

Boyd - 2015/16 top 2 or 3 fullback in the game. 17/18 Boyd? Lucky to be in the top 10 fullbacks.
Oates - A great winger, but not sure he would be in the top 10 either.
Roberts - Great centre, doesnt get enough ball but would be one of the better centres.
Bird - Safe and reliable, very expensive. Definitely not a weakness.
Kahu/Isaako - Good young players, neither in the top 10 though.
Milford - 15/16 Milford possibly best 5/8th in the game, 17/18 Milford, too much pressure and not able to play natural game.
Nikorima - Wouldnt be a starting half at any other team in the comp, and at some teams, wouldn't even be second or third choice.
Lodge - Good forward, has been one of the better performers for us but probably not top 10 front rowers.
Macca - Great hooker, Definitely in the top 5 hookers.
TPJ - Has been great so far this year, still young though and wouldn't be able to say he is a top 10 forward.
Gillett - 2012-15 Gillett yeah really good, 2016+ Gillett? Really slipping. Attack has turned to crap and misses a lot of tackles.
Glenn - Gets a lot of hate on here but he is immense in defence often saving Milford close to the line.
McGuire - Metres after contact is not great, can't make a 1 on 1 tackle ever, doesn't offload, grossly overrated.

BENCH:
Thaiday - Played really well in 2011, has lived off that ever since. On current form wouldn't be in the top 30 forwards.
Sims - Gets a lot of hate on here as well. He has some good big runs and tries hard and decent offloads. Not amazing though.
Offa - Average at best, this guy has racked up a fair few first grade games and I dont know... Average at best.
S'ua - Tries hard, has potential, makes a lot of mistakes / penalties though.

If you put our 17 down next to the 17 of other teams and only base your assessment on form from this season, and last season, The only team I look at and genuinely think 10 or more of our players are better would be Raiders, Tigers, Rabbitohs, Bulldogs, Knights and Titans. We have already lost to both the Knights and Titans, and were extremely lucky against the Tigers (and couldn't score a try against them).

The worrying thing is knowing that we have people like Boyd, Gillett and McGuire all locked up on big money for the next 2-4 years and their peak is long behind them. Bird is also taking up a whole heap of salary cap and if he is staying on the centres it's a huge waste.

If you look at it like this there are several other, players in their position on less.

Boyd 750k - Players on less / similar amount - Ponga, TTurbo, Gutherson etc.
McGuire 550k - Nathan Brown (to me they are the same player, brown is just 300k a season cheaper...)
Gillett 600k - Cooper, Hess, Harris, Frizzel

I just think we have paid overs for a lot of our players. Bennett has lost his aura because previously players took big salary cuts to play for him / broncos, this isn't the case anymore. He signed Bird on $750k because everyone else he tried to renew or went after rejected him.

Apologies in advance for the long rant but here’s my take on things.

Along with others on this forum I’m sick and tired of the effort displayed on field BUT I have a suspicion there is a bigger problem higher up.

Anyone notice the attitude after scoring a try? Most teams celebrate like they’ve won the GF but only a handful of players went to congratulate Oates and Milford. There is some serious issues within certain players and for this, I place the blame squarely on coaching.

Years ago worked for a company that while had some issues, everyone loved the place. Put in extra time, never bitched because we all had each other’s back in our team of 15-20 people. For 4 years our team had the lowest staff turnover with 1-2 (mainly due to maternity leave) but they all came back. One year they hire 2 mid level managers with ‘great’ successes in the banking field and went about “enhancing the output of our team” (biggest load of PR crap).

The following year we lost 4 full time staff with most of them there for over 5 years. We knew the changes weren’t feasible so went to management outlining issues and even proposed solutions. The response-yeah we’ll take it into consideration. Year after that 8 staff (including me).

I see it with the Broncos at the moment and I believe either Wayne has truly lost it with the playing group or that certain individuals are getting preferential treatment that is driving a wedge into the rest of the group. Either way this needs to be addressed or the once proud club we love will continue down the gurgler.

TL:DR Coaching and management need to pull their heads in, let players air grievances and cease preferential treatment to ‘loyal’ players.

BTW the company was taken over by a competitor a year after I left.

I was at the game on Saturday night..After the game, when the boys walked off the field, no one was talking to anyone.
They were all walking individually and it was clear that they weren't happy..who is after a loss?
But I don't think this is normal. Most teams will still come together and try and lift one another..I thought it was a little odd at the time, maybe I am reading too far into it, but I have been to plenty of Brisbane losses and they still unite as one at the end of the game, go over to the fans etc..
TPJ came straight from the field and into the sheds, way before anyone else..I also thought that was odd..

The broncos are suffering what the raiders suffered all last year and this year, same as the cowboys and storm.

They are just playing into their own egos.

Rugby league is a simple game, run hard and tackle hard, however if you believe you are that good that you will get the win without doing that you are in trouble.

As for commentary about what your team is paying players.

Jack bird on 750k? https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...d/news-story/f88a1ddca9247792949f21ae02680fe1
Has him at 1.2M

Regardless of your sydney roosters like management of your cap, you have a very good list but you still have to run hard and tackle hard or you won't go anywhere, same as us and every other side in the nrl.

Rubbish about Bird, he's probably between 500 and 750 k. 1.2 k is ridiculous and we are heavily scrutinised on cap compliance. I'd see surprised if we've ever been over the cap intentionally. It's because we are honest and honourable and an example to all other clubs.

It's amazing that we are paying 1 million for a centre (atm) some halves struggle to demand 1 million a year ffs

Im more annoyed about the Boyd deal. No other club would have offered Boyd $750k a season after he did his hamstring, and definitely not for 4 seasons. Boyd would never leave father wayne, should have capitalised on that and given him $500k for 2 years, not $750k for 4...

Yeah man i heard bird was on 2 million a year

Yeah, that's rubbish.

These comments are just ridiculous, to be honest.

But anyway, Boyd would still get the same money at other clubs because Boyd is actually viewed as a quality fullback by other clubs.

The money Boyd is on is standard money for a fullback of his standing. Especially with the rise in the cap which increases the value of players.

He isn't on 1 million a year.

There is a 4th year in his favour for 1 million, but what he is currently earning is not 1 million. It's below that.

If you're confident that's he's not on a million, what is he on?

200k to much of reckon
Bird will be fine, he is slowly working his way into a new squad after major surgery. He will be a key member of this team come mid season. He has been flawless defensively and the attack part will come. He will be moved somewhere in the middle eventually where he can create rather than wait for quality ball from a spine severely lacking in that area.

It took Roberts a season to really kick into gear with us. Bird is coming in off surgery and spending summer at a buffet...

Bit early to write him off.

Bird will be fine. He's fucking quality, and he works damned hard. The guys not coming off injury and who is playing while injured are the players I'm concerned about.
