What is happening at the Broncos?

I'd cop half the salary to play for the Broncos. Not only do I love the club and would be sickened playing anywhere else, but the Broncos/ Brisbane look after their players post-footy. Taylor for example, does he want to finish his career a GC (how long will the club be around?) legend with zero prems, or a Broncos legend the equal of Locky with multiple comp wins? He'll probably end back here anyway, he's said as much.

Ash is on insane money for his current ability. Manly are bang average at the moment, and they shelled out Taylor like money for DCE who actually has proven himself at club level, plus they usually have a better eye for juniors than the Tits, whose primary strategy is signing our and Penrith's rookies on extreme overs.

Thing is though, when that money being waved in front of your face isnt hypothetical I guess it would change your mindset.

We bought damaged goods (Bird) and we are holding on to damaged goods (Boyd) that’s what’s happening and they both cost a lot and we can’t return it.

How the **** is Bird damaged goods?

Would people trade Bird and Milford for Taylor and Hunt?

Can't wait for Bird to come back and be our best player so I can quote all these people saying he's not going to help us at all and was an awful signing.

Holy **** the doom & gloom after one game. Woe is us.

Let's hope the players aren't as mentally weak because then we really would be well and truly screwed.

If we get over our Melbourne Hoodoo.....we will be the team everyone wants us to be. We need to beat Melbourne consistantly, the rest will take care of itself.

MELBOURNE IS THE KEY!

I disagree that Corvo is already a loss. We looked wrecked at the end of a few games last year too. I do wonder how we would have looked if players just held onto the ball. Our metres made would have been higher and our tackles would have been lower.
This is the key take away for me and why I have written that rd 1 game off.

I can't take anything from that game we just dropped too much ball to get a gauge on anything.

I rewatched a replay just to see if Milf and Kodi did play all that bad and the main take away I took.

Get out sets: similar to last year although I felt we went sideways far too often and not enough hit ups down the middle. When we did get to a 5th tackle kick the eventual kicker was largely based on ruck position. Milf took them from the left and kodi the right side ptb.

Inside the 20:
Barely had ball in there. From what I can recall (may have missed some)
1st half
1 - Sammy throws the ball into TPJ's chest on the last with milf ready for the kick
2 - penalty goal on second or third tackle
3- Boyd throws forward pass to Oates
4- milf drops it 30m out after tackle from widdop

2nd half
5- scrum play for Jimmy's first try
6- Kodi grubber into the in goal Jimmy ruled to have not grounded it (Jet then gets penalised) also no replays shown
7- milf kicks it dead after good lead up play (killer)
8- milf grubbers early with only moose chasing dufty cleans up
9- Jimmy scores second try. After good lead up play

Can't remember seeing too many others outside of them so what that tells me is we had **** all good ball for our halves to actually do anything. Not necessarily because the forwards didn't make meters but more so because we couldn't hang onto the ball and went sideways far too often.

Also watching the game again the only real error I can recall from Kodi was later in the game where he got rushed on the last leading him to pass the ball behind Sua's head after he stepped around the rushing defence

But Kahu is average everywhere except the wing, Barba was doing drugs, Milford was brought in as a five-eight and Kodi is a bench utility. Boyd has been better than what all of them, except possibly what Milford would have brought at fullback. Despite what you think, Boyd has been really good for us. He was great until Slater was handed the fullback spot that Boyd had rightfully earned. That's a good two and a half years of really good footy Boyd has given us. The last half of 2017 wasn't great but you're acting like 2015 was his only good year and that is absolute bullshit.

Bennetts only mistake was letting go of Taylor, but Hunt had earned and locked down that halfback spot at the time. He let him go because he wanted to play first grade but hadn't surpassed Hunt, then when we wanted him back he said no for a million dollar contract at the Titans. You might struggle to admit it, but he's fucked us just as much as Bennett has.
I knew you would be first cab of the rank defending Boyd, but at least quote me right.

I don't deny he was good for us, and mentioned 2015 and 2016, the latter being his best year, and earning him a captaincy.

What is bullshit are the excuses and fallacies about the players we had.
Kahu proved very capable as fullback in the first half of 2015 while Boyd was recovering from his Achilles.
Barba was only doing drugs a year later, at Cronulla of all places... what a surprise.
Kodi Nikorima had played mostly fullback at the time, and quite well too.
And of course, Anthony Milford was potentially the best of the lot.

With the above, it doesn't matter whether Boyd was good and even the best fullback around in 2016 (his merit, but also luck, as all the competition was on crutches).

We simply did not need a fullback when he was recruited, and the flow on effect led us to where we are. With Milford at fullback, we wouldn't be discussing Taylor leaving (and screwing us over according to you, which I don't agree with), and wouldn't be trying to fit a round peg (Milford, pun intended) in a square hole (Halfback).

FTR, I never blamed the circumstances under which Wayne let Taylor go, but that's exactly my gripe with 2015, it fooled all of us!

How the **** is Bird damaged goods?

He is the first player to pick up an injury and what we have all just recently learned is you can't return from an injury. A league players career certainly is a short one...

So do we all agree giving Boyd a four year, nearly a mil a year contract, was mostly nepotism? Or was it genuinely in the best interest of the team?

Has he proved the doubters wrong re: his attitude as captain?

The contract, value and length, is a pretty standard contract for a player like him and at his age.

Nepotism? Not really.

Boyd at his best is a very good footballer. He probably isn't captain material, but it doesn't change the fact he is a very good footballer.

Four years on legs that obviously won't last four years - at his best, he is very good, but are we likely to see that again, consistently?

He isn't captain material, I'm fairly confident we have seen that now.

Will Wayne move Boyd or drop him if necessary? That will be the nepotism test.
