What is happening at the Broncos?

Four years on legs that obviously won't last four years - at his best, he is very good, but are we likely to see that again, consistently?

He isn't captain material, I'm fairly confident we have seen that now.

Will Wayne move Boyd or drop him if necessary? That will be the nepotism test.

4 years was a terrible, terrible contract. How did they sign off on that.

So do we all agree giving Boyd a four year, nearly a mil a year contract, was mostly nepotism? Or was it genuinely in the best interest of the team?

Has he proved the doubters wrong re: his attitude as captain?

I said it was a stupid idea from the start and now Broncos are going to have to pay for him to play below par and injured.

There’s no use debating if you’re still under the impression that Bennet is trying to make Milford a halfback. He needs to add new things to his game, like any 20 year old or **** off and play rugby or something where he doesn’t need any new skills. Boyd was a better option than all of those guys, especially Kahu who is a winger and that is it. Milford was always brought in as a five eight anyway.

1 Barba
6 Milford
7 Taylor

We’d need 10 Tonie Carroll’s to fill the holes in defence they’d make. The only problem with boyd is the length of his current contract because the last one was fine. He was a big part in our 2015 season when he returned.

I’m defending his previous contract which was the issue you originally had that you’re now claiming to be right about. You can’t preface it with “people who don’t agree with me need not read on so my argument and bragging about being right years after being proven wrong isn’t disputed” and then make a comment about someone replying.

His new contract is shit, unless he moves to centre or wing where hopefully he will flourish. But we did not have a better option for fullback and it was absolutely best for the team. 18 year old Taylor wasn’t ready and I have no doubt that he was part of the future plans and I hope he didn’t go back on his word regarding a return

A league players career certainly is a short one...

I think B4L said it a bit tounge in check, however,
It Always makes me vomit this comment, particularly when it is recited parrot fashion, like from the beautiful ones on Fox because they think it sounds cool.

Minimum wage =55k, If that doesn't work out the poor bastard will have to get a real job, imagine that!
In Birds case a reported 4mil contract.
If they get hurt, they sue.
I earn pretty good coin and there is not enough years left for me to get anywhere near 4mill.

My tongue was so far in my cheek it nearly went straight through.

Does anyone actually like Boyd’s latest contract?

Does anyone think we are in a worse place now than we were before Bennett was signed?

1. I just asked that. I don't think anyone does, despite Super Freak thinking it is 'stock'.

2. We are in a better place - but seriously, was '15 a fluke? Attitude wise, have we gone south since then despite signing quality talent? What IS the problem holding us back from being on par with the Storm/Cows?

2. We've lost some decent forwards: Blair, Parker and Wallace. Hodges and Reed retired who were consistent and reliable players for us. Hunt's gone now.

So there are 6 players who played in the GF who are gone.

Cowboys have pretty much the same GF side but have added Hess and McLean - both who are rep players. They have only lost Hannant - who played well in their GF year but was cooked beyond that and Tamou who was inconsistent.

I think some players have gone south since 2015 but I don’t think the club has. Boyd is one of them, Milford is another, Hunt was definitely one. Could any team replace Parker and Hodges in consecutive years? Legally anyway.

I think if we kept all of the juniors we make NRL standard like the Cowboys do, we’d be fine. We would also be fine if we got to cheat to keep the top three players in the game for ten years

Yes but we have the most exciting crop of forwards coming through. This isn't an issue of talent, it seems to be an issue of attitude and communication/unity.

Issue of experience though. Blair, Parker and even Wallace knew what they were doing out there. They'd been in a million battles before.

Our halves have confidence issues as well - especially Nikorima.

Cant underestimate the loss Hodges....
His ability to understand when the side was on the back foot is sorely missed.
He didnt wait for someone to do the job......he showed the team that a job needed to be done.
We need someone inspirational to fire the team up.
Webke did it
Petro Did it
Locky did it
Hodges was the last one standing.

Agreed, but doesn't this speak to an issue of management? Of leadership?

This is what has been mishandled, not talent acquisition. (Minus Wallace, who is good, but was green - but we should have kept him, granted).

So our 1, 6 and 7 went south...but the club hasn't??

Something is amiss.

Cows are the number one QLD club, sad, but true.

Yeah I don’t know if you noticed mate but we went from almost winning a grand final to coming third and not making the grand final. Of course some aspects have gone backwards but the club is still in a really good place. We are missing a halfback now but we were missing props then. Now we have props and no halfback.

Storm are the number one QLD team. They might go to Victoria one day though

The only players who I can think of like that now is Gillett and McGuire.

Go to a Broncos-Cowboys game now at Suncorp though and there are a million Cowboys fans there now. There's no question they are getting some of the support they we used to get.

We are not the same club we used to be - but I am optimistic that we can be a great team in a couple of years when our young forwards have the requisite experience.

Would people trade Bird and Milford for Taylor and Hunt?

Probably a bit early to say, considering, you know, they've never played in the same team together..

I think we need to calm down a bit. I chucked a bit of a wobbly about Lodge as I was pretty hungover on Friday but I think we need to stress less. People are writing Bird off as a failure and he's never even worn a Broncos jersey.

We don't know what plans Bennett has for him, and Milf was 35 minutes back from a shoulder reconstruction.

People were calling Milf a failure after round one in 15 and he went on to have a belting season.

We were obviously diabolical on Thursday night, but I fully expect a better perfomance on Friday.

Good place, yes. Not good enough to beat the actual contenders, Storm and Cows. The club is sitting around also ran status - I'm not happy with that, personally, but then, I'd also support the fuckers even if we win the spoon.

Just be honest mate, Cows are now number one. Something isn't right here. Players? Wayne? Both?

Can we get over '15? Or does it require a new generation?
