I don't blame him for being useless at the Warriors. He didn't want to leave the Broncos, he didn't want to play for the Warriors, and like all wingers at the Warriors who aren't name Manu, he wasn't given enough ball.

I've watched plenty of Warriors games over the years, and their game plan has never had room for a small quick white fella out on the wing.

Not to mention. He got to live in Auckland... NZ. And was playing with a bunch of players who can't hardly be called stars.

I have absolutely no doubt that last year was one of the worst years of his life, not only his career.

When you look at Denan Kemp's 2008 compared to his 2009 - the obvious big difference is those around him. Case closed, IMO.

Bingo. He rarely got the ball (halves rarely went wide and when they did, Kemp's centre - Ropati? - never ever passed it). And when he did get the ball it was usually under incredible pressure with nowhere to go and he got smashed.

Warriors had no fucking idea how to use him.

Does Locky want Norman there?

Equally as exciting have been the efforts of young fullback candidate Corey Norman, who will again start in the No 1 jersey vacated by Karmichael Hunt, following a standout display at the back last weekend.

After arriving at the club as a star schoolboy fullback, Norman was the under-20 back of the year playing five-eighth.

But with Norman's slight frame still developing, Lockyer knows better than most that fullback is the perfect position for the youngster - who like Lockyer also happens to be a left-footer - to find his feet.

"He is one of the really talented kids we have coming through and one of the tries he set up the other night was pretty impressive," Lockyer said.

"And a fullback, who played five-eighth when he first came to the club and is now back playing fullback. That story brings back a few memories."

Meh. We've been written off preseason pretty regularly over the last decade. And yet the Broncos were one of two teams to win multiple premierships in that decade....
