Recently, I had an epiphany. I realised that we are not going anywhere with Griffin and we need to sack and replace him with Kevin Walters immediately.

I don't know why I've come to this conclusion now, but I just get the feeling that with Griffin, we're going nowhere fast. Ever he signed that contract extension in July 2012, when we were coming SECOND, we have been on a huge downward slide.

So who should be our coach this year? Should we stick with Griffin, bring in a club legend, or shoot ourselves in the foot and get Tim Sheens/David Furner?

Not sure, but in my experience, shooting yourself in the foot is generally a negative thing to do.

It would be stupid to sack our coach just before the season starts. I'm willing to give Hook another chance ut this is a make or break year for him, if he fails he is gone.

Before you say that, please check the date Ivan was sacked

Well, according to Todd Balym on Twitter Kevin Walters has joined the Newcastle Knights as a part time halves coach.

I'd say it's still entirely possible that if offered a full time coaching job the Knights would let him go.

Unless Bellamy comes knocking on our doors before the season, Hook all the way.

2014 is going to be a huge test for him, he's brought in a new conditioner, made some big signings but not enough to where he could get by with simple, what I like to call, 'rep' coaching where it's all about getting the boys up for the game. No, he's going to have to come up with some good plans to fix the weaknesses at five eigth and in the backline and if he can't achieve that, then he's out the door and the club moves forward in 2015 with one of the game's best prospects and they start anew.

I've said it before, I don't see anything on Walters' resume to suggest he'd be anything more than a stop-gap option.

Furner, no thanks.

Sheens, maybe if it was the 80s.

Griffin has my vote for the big job. I'm positive he can turn it around from last year. Still would like to have Johns as a specialist halves coach.

How anyone still has any faith in him is beyond me. Excuses have been made for his bullshit performances since 2012. IMO any other club would have sacked him.

There's been positive changes to the coaching staff from a fitness perspective and recruitment has improved dramatically but will that be enough to keep Griffin in his job for 2015, I have my doubts. The introduction of Kearney has shown no real positive contribution and as bad as Griffin has been, I think I'd hate for him to be next in line so regardless I hope his here to stay for the whole of 2014 unless some of real promise is on the market, defensively we will have to improve dramatically, how we have gone from 2011 to this is beyond me and that's not just from a fitness perspective either, attacking wise I think we missed out on a great opportunity to have Walters there even as an assistant coach working with our spine on their general ball skills, Hunt and McCullough in particular would have benefited from having a player who focused on ticking all the important boxes in their game first and formost, not trying to be something they necessarily aren't.

So for now Griffin, but that's with no great confidence and little choice, I will say one thing though, there can be no more excuse making for another pissweak season.

If Hook had lost the players I think he might have been given the boot. The players seems to love him so it is just a matter of Hook getting the best out of the players now. Some luck with injuries would be handy as well

No way would you sack him now, at least give him till round 12, if we're playing like busted by then, then I'm all for him being sacked.

It'll be interesting to see how Strasser or Kahu handle the defensive responsbility - Prince was a massive weak link last season and the pairing of him, Gillett and Hodgo gave teams an easy target. For mine, that was the biggest difference between 2011 and 2013.

Fans argue that the stats don't reflect that because a lot of points were scored through the middle, but that was usually on the back of making easy ground down the right, catching the team on the back foot and crossing over.
