Who would come to play for us?

Probably won't sign another half until Prince retires, which isn't too far away fortunately.

I've gotta hold out hope that the Broncos are working hard behind the scenes on making a big signing. Whether it be a Barba, Tomkins, Quade Cooper, Will Hopoate, Israel Folau or Cherry-Evans

We went after Widdop, but not for $550k a year, he was just chasing the money, can't blame him. I also don't blame Broncos for not offering more, he's not worth $550. Carney is still available if we are still looking for a half. Door for Dugan hasn't closed trust me.

This whole talk about what a player is worth is pretty stupid imo. A player is worth what a club will pay for him. Right now, Widdop is not worth less than $550k, hes worth exactly $550k. If we want a player, u have to pay him enough to make him come to the club. Hes not going to come for $400k when saints offer $550k. Look at the result. We have no new signing, and theres 1 less player on the market. No point saving all this money when there is no-one left to buy

At the same time, no point investing millions in a crappy player just because.

Surprised you don't rate Widdop, Pete. I know he's probably not the next coming of Darren Lockyer but he's probably not as bad as you think.

Just because the Broncos don't play out their negotiations in the media doesn't mean they aren't trying to sign players, in fact after the Inglis Saga, i can understand why we aren't playing out our negotiations in the media.

for all anyone knows, we made a decent offer for Thurston ... but he turned us down to stay at the the Cowboys

we could have made a decent offer for Widdop but he got more to play for the Dragons

My point is no one knows what goes on behind the scenes, with regards to Broncos recruitment, that is unless you happen to work for Broncos management (or are Big Dave :001_tt2:)

Gareth is solid but I question whether he's going to be the player a lot of people assume he's going to become.

My point was more about signing players for the sake of signing players. IMO, I'd rather hold off then invest millions into a player who isn't going to be the answer and compromise our ability to keep our core roster together.

Must be me then. I haven't seen anyone claim that he will be the next big thing.

Sorry, keep our core roster together. Who do you mean? Look at the results 2010, missed finals, 2011, made it to second last weekend, 2012, finished 8th....if the "core roster" has not performed.. why would we be looking to retain them?

If anything I would have thought getting rid of a few of the "core roster" might have been a good idea.

There's still Sam Williams left (I think), he's quality. But since there has been nothing on us chasing him, I guess it ain't happening.

Anyway, surely this is the time to drop Prince and give Hunt a shot. We can't lose him too, just thinking that we'll have Prince and Wallace for another year with no cover is too painful.

Who says we won't have cover, the Broncos will no doubt re-sign Luke Capewell for 3 more season at $1 million a season and we will have the big 3 then!

I thought things had changed, when we came out publicly and said we are in the market for a quality half...I even got excited (fool is me)...but it looks like the same old same old...as each quality off contract player signs or re-signs I sit here extremely dejected...and honestly feel the once were mighty broncos will win a wooden spoon before we win another premiership.

Got the feeling there's a rocky road ahead for us broncos fans. So lets hang on for the ride.

We could be signing them all.

shhhhhh, tell noone.

Saw this in another forum ...
"With persistent reports linking the Warriors to Tomkins, who has played 18 times for England, Elliott said such stories were not without substance. ''There's always truth to rumours,'' he said.
''We're in the market for players and he's a player who's possibly on the market.
''He's not the only player we're speaking to. Obviously there's attention around him because he's got some profile in the UK. We're certainly not the only club talking to him, as well.'' http://www.odt.co.nz/sport/league/253795/league-warriors-confirm-interest-tomkins

Hopefully we're one of the other clubs "talking to him" ...

Hopefully this is the reason that we have appeared to be doing nothing on the player market
