Will Tesi Niu get poached?

Hahahah wow. No, I am not going to explain that to you.

No please explain how paying top dollar for a player that can't get them in the finals and can't maintain a high level of performances consistently is the definition of "it paid off".

the only reason he'll get poached is if someone is looking for a fullback for their reserve grade sides.

he wont be getting poached to play NRL

Titans are looking to build a team for the next 10 years. I think they're the most obvious club that could offer more money than any other. He has a combination with Tanah Boyd too.

700k is not top dollar. Gagai is on that. Shannon Boyd is on that. Dugan is on 1 mil. How much is Jack Bird on? more than 700k

he won't even get a look in at the wooden spooners since they have AJ Brimson

I'm still waiting to hear how it's paid off for the Knights.

Dude, you're insane if you don't think it's paid off. I don't bother with insane people.

You actually don't know more about rugby league than I. Stop acting like it.
How could you possibly know that? You literally just said you have no idea who he is.

Surely you can see that this thread is a little silly. I don't even think it's worthy of it's own thread, would have been more appropriate in the player movement thread.

Yeah, I didn't think you could explain it.

Yes, I'm highly incapable of explaining how Ponga at 700k a year for 4 years was a good deal for the Knights. I better not try or else I'll look like a fool for even thinking it could be a good deal. They should have signed Jack Bird instead.

Yeah.. If you're making the extended bench then you're most likely in calculations to an extent. Not 5 years off getting near playing a game.
Yeah - you're probably in the squad of 30.

Jack Bird has actually acheived more in the game than Ponga has ... and they are on around the same money

Yeah and bird also ran more metres than hodges did this year.

Look what the situation was with Ponga at Cows. Green refused to put faith in him as their fullback or even winger.. Knights recognised the talent, took a risk with a big contract, and it paid off.

Ponga went from unproven rookie to NRL superstar over the course of a pre season. Amazing right?

I feel like you're misrepresenting this a bit. Ponga even when a nobody, was still huge. The hype on him was stupid - he had AFL, NRL, RU after him. He was a age level golf champion. He was a precocious freak. We even had him on a scholarship before he took off to sign with the Cows.

The fact that Paul Green didn't play him is on Paul Green and no one else - everyone knew about his talent.

I agree with what you're saying that he did have more hype around him than Niu does. That doesn't mean Niu is a lot further behind though. Holmes didn't have that much fanfare around him before he made it. In fact I think he may have struggled a little as a junior.

I've seen Niu a few times and I think he is a prospect, I could be wrong though but I don't remember him being overly tall, so IIRC, then where else can you put him apart from fb?

I agree that sometimes players aren't much chop until they're given a chance - Turpin this year alone has proven that, plus Oates was never a winger until he was one day and took his chance, and yeah there's every chance Niu could have a Holmes like start to his career - but there's only limited bandwidth to test the candidates in pre season before you have to hail mary an option and hope it works?

If we're going down the path of promoting our juniors etc, then Farnworth or Coates would be my pick. Farnworth initially with a few of bringing on Coates somewhere down the track. Coates has it.

I completely agree with your pecking order. Those players are ahead of Niu in the outside back positions. I just hope that we are making it obvious to Niu that there is a pathway for him.

You're basically saying he could/should get poached though are you?

Anything is possible but I would be more concerned if we lost someone like Coates than Niu IMO.
