POST GAME World Club Challenge - Wigan vs Brisbane

Always good to get over an English team and especially in a tough contest like that. That finish is one of the funniest things I've seen in Rugby League and to think the guy was clapping himself off  .

Postitives

- Adam Blair proved me wrong. I've been critical of him but he played solidly and looked keen to get involved. Hope he keeps his interet up.

- Milford showed some good signs and was great in open play

- Thiaday looked good and keen

- McGuire and Parker were great as always.

- we had a good strong hit out that will mke us better prepared and battle hardened for our game against Souths.

Its always good to get some silverware and it's a good start to the Bennett era the 2nd. That commentary is just so bias it's entertaining, I love bias commentary. Dissapointing to see Bowen play nowhere near his best though.

Not a bad hit out for the side. Things are looking good for when the season kicks off and the combinations begin to gel.

I think Kahu is going to surprise a few when he puts a few games together. Solid performance at the back.

Copley in for Whitchurch

other than that I think the back line is good to go.

Parker, McGuire, Glenn and Thaiday standouts for mine in the forwards.

Going to be a tiresome season listening to the Milford 5/8>fullback debate after every game.

I think McGuire looks primed for a big season. Have to admit Blair is better than I had anticipated. Glenn looked decent but he needs to be consistent. Maranta and Whitchurch some how look like new born foals out there. A good hit out for the Broncos. Defensively they looked good. Once Hunt and Milford click it will be easy to see the Broncos putting up some big scores.

Pleasing thing for me was that they did not look like coming through the middle which has been a huge problem for us. The addition of Blair has given us a better defensive pack.
I also like the fact McGuire and Blair weren't taking shit from the pommies. They will work well in tandem, one a runner and the other better in defence

Since Milford is no chance of being fullback, I think Hodges should play there in attack. Kahu can be there in defence, and centre in attack.

Hodges is pretty slow now, but his passing and ball playing has improved out of sight.
Completely agree. I'd say Hodges is our most dangerous play maker at the opposition line, I really hope the reports of him chiming in at fullback this season as a game plan is true. He's shown time and time again in attack as fullback, he just knows how to setup a try.

I'd really like to see Hodges at fullback whenever we're in the opposition half, with Boyd shifting to wing in attack, that would be ideal. Hodges is excellent at setting up chances and Boyd can finish very well, while also being a safe defensive fullback.

Yeah, we always looked to have Wigan covered. Hopefully that means we won't see Inglis running through 13 tackles to score in round one.

It may be worth noting that the only people talking in the huddle going in to golden point were Hodges & Parker.. Thaiday and McCullough were just standing there from what I saw.

Hodges (c)
Parker (vc)

Yes I noticed that quite clearly as well. The wigan captain was animated and talking his head off, McCullough was absolutely silent, not good leadership signs.

Agree with what you said. I like Kahu at the back.

What I think will be tiresome will be listening to who is going to play FB until Darius Bennett returns. It won't be Milf - he is our 5/8, remember?

That's the fittest Kahu has looked to me in a long time. Moves so much better without 5kg of strapping around his knee.

A whole bunch of the players looked fitter, in particular Glenn I thought

Admittedly, there was that point towards the end of the match where depression set in. And that was this thought, bouncing around my head from the last few seasons...

We do 9 things perfectly, and one thing stupid, we lose. The opposition do 9 things badly, then one thing brilliantly. We lose.

I wasnt all too happy with marantas performance. Anyone agree?

I thought Maranta did fine..

What was wrong with his performance?

His ability to finally put down a ball off a bit of hodges brilliance seems to fool everyone into thinking he's a great 1st choice winger. He isn't. He can't break the line, and he can't find the line, and imo that's what wingers are for. One look at Vidot and you see that he's not a winger although on the wing he makes the metres that matter. Maranta has to be the most frustrating part of our back line and it's ludicrous to think we don't have other options to explore
