Your Fullback after 5 rounds?

Far out, Kemp isn't even guaranteed a spot when we're at full strength! He is not the ducks nuts.

I'm as big a Kemp fan as anyone, loved his work in 2008, but seriously...some of you guys go way over the top.

Could not agree more. Here's his attributes:

1. Speed

That is all.

Thats a bit harsh mate, there is more to his game than that.

Perhaps - but there is no way he will ever be anything more than a winger and I seriously doubt he will ever even be an elite winger

Let's look at our full stocks of outside backs:

Hodges (Centre)
Folau (centre/wing)
Michaels (centre/wing)
Beale (fullback/centre/wing)
Hoffman (fullback/wing)
Kemp (wing/fullback)
Yow Yeh (wing)
Norman (fullback/five-eighth)
Winterstein (wing/centre)
Copley (wing/centre)
Rivett lolz (wing)

Huge numbers of players

Of those, the only ones you would say are certain inclusions are Folau, Hodges and Winterstein. You simply couldn't leave any of them out.

1.
2. Winterstein
3. Folau
4. Hodges
5.

So that leaves one wing open to Hoffman, Kemp, Yow Yeh, Michaels, Copley, Rivett or Beale.
And the fullback spot available to Hoffman, Kemp, Beale or Norman.

Accepting that Hoffman, Kemp and Yow Yeh are the best 3 of that group, then one of them is going to miss out when Hodges is back. That's a given. And even if Hodges isn't out, the only way to fit them in would be for Winterstein to play centre, and have something like:

1. Hoffman
2. Kemp
3. Winterstein
4. Folau
5. Yow Yeh

And frankly, that backline doesn't look too bloody bad to me!

I think rate Kemp highly personally, but not as fullback. I think you guys are right with Norman going back to QCup to get some more time as fullback before coming into Broncos again.

I heart Denan Kemp. Very much.

I agree with Rocky. He is perfect for us on the wing. Sure, he can play FB if he needed to - but I don't think that will be required with Norman and Hoffman around. Sure, they're only young and new, but I think we can groom one or both of them into being pretty decent fullbacks. We need them to be specialised in the position though - and pick the more in form/consistant player.

But yeah, I'm happy with Kemp on the wing, not at fullback. Actually, I'm happy with him anywhere due to his pure awesomness.

I feel for young Norman, and think it is unfair of Henjak to dump him now, as we near full strength as he should all of a sudden have a lot more opportunities to show his attacking skills. The last time we had a decent squad on the paddock was in round one against the cowboys, and Norman was the stand out player, winning the man of the match award. He hasn't had the team around him for him to show that quality until this week and gets dropped without the opportunity to show what he's got. Big mistake, very few players show the quality he has at his age, he will be a superstar and a little bit of patience would have seen this happen throughout this season. It's not like the guy has let us down, he has been defensively excellent and it is a shocking call to dump him now.

I can see sense in what you are saying SSS, but there have been some attitude things about the way he has been playing that should not be adversely affected by who else is in the team. Like the way he brings the ball back, lack of involvement on occasion. If Ivan sat him down and said these are some things I want you to work on, go back to Q-Cup for a while and improve those aspects, I can understand the decision.

This biggest moment imo for a young player is how they handle being dropped.

Handle it well and you will get your spot back and go on to do great things

Take it badly and you will be playing for the rabbitohs.

Except that Hoffman had been showing excellent form in Q Cup, and then backed it up with a strong performance on the wing last week, while Norman was underwhelming at fullback.

Henjak feels the best option for the team is to replace Norman with Hoffman at fullback, and rush Yow Yeh back, who is an undoubted talent on the wing.

Fair enough IMO.

However, my understanding is that Yow Yeh isn't 100% guaranteed to be fit yet, hence why Norman remains on the extended bench. If Yow Yeh is out, Hoffman goes to wing, Norman back to fullback. So it's not like Henjak has said "sorry kid, you're not up to it, bugger off", he's keeping him there or thereabouts.

Well your recollection of a young Darren Lockyer is so very different to mine, that was more like a young Tonie Carroll...or a young Chris McKenna. Not in the slightest did that look anything like Locky...Locky used speed to go around players not brute strength to barge thru them?

Oh come on. Can't take a joke?
I don't like comparing players. Look what happened to Norman.
Looked what happened to Hoffman when he was compared to Hunt.
Just let them play their own game

Anyone who thought Hoffman was like Hunt must of seen little of both.

Hoffman is a young dude who uses his agility and strength to bust through.

If I was to compare him to anyone, I'd say Hodges.

Don't really know about that... Norman's brilliant attacking performance in Rd 1 seemed to involve him, Beale, Winterstein, and Lockyer largely in executing with great style some great 2nd man plays.

For mine, in that game he played by instinct. He didn't think. He just did it. Then the hype. From there he went a bit downhill. Maybe he started to believe he had to be brilliant every week and instead of just playing from instinct - as all the great players do, he tried to think his way through which of course, usually leads to disaster.

Brilliance is only marginally a conscious process.

I agree that having a spell now is the right move for Norman. He needs to re-discover his instincts and forget the hype.

Having re-visited the video of the Rd 1 game, and re-reading this thread, I agree Kemp is our equal first choice winger with Winterstein, and Norman the best FB option until maybe he moves up to take Lockyer's place when the great man calls it a day.

Until then, it's Hoffman's turn to show his wares although I still have doubts about his defensive positional play based on last years performances when I seem to recall he was caught out a fair bit. Hopefully he's learned a lot since then.

I disagree, I think Yow Yeh is the best winger at the club at the moment (apart from Folau) and is the first picked on the wing. The left wing position can be either Kemp or Winterstein. But Yow Yeh MUST be on the right wing.
