Daniel Vidot discussion

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

Nothing I've read suggests that is the case, and even if it is it doesn't make much sense given the lack of depth out wide.

Maybe it's to teach him how to break the line properly, so he can become a big barnstorming winger?

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

No, you assume that's the reason. When in reality, you have absolutely no idea. You're letting your bias and agenda get the better of you. There are plenty of reasons why he could have been dropped.

I can say that, and I most certainly did say that.

I don't care if he was the most consistent player last year. You don't know what's happened in the off-season, maybe he and Bennett had a spat about his position in the team, maybe he's a lazy trainer, maybe he showed up drunk, etc.

Maranta isn't playing like a nuffy this year. He's no Sailor, but he's certainly not playing useless, and he's certainly not deserving of a lot of the crap he's copping this year. He's shown his dedication to the team by being a better footballer.

Add to that the fact that our captain, one of his biggest on field critics, seems to be getting along with him in the games, probably plays a giant part in him being selected.

I know you like to sit at home and act like a coach, and I know you know better than the best coaches in the game, but unfortunately, when it comes to football, you know as much as the average punter at home. Which is as close to nothing as you can get.

You've already told us you've missed one game this season, so you're judging this team on numbers, alone, and possibly the other two games. Who knows.

I only missed the sharks game, and going by what people who saw it said I didn't miss much. my life is probably better for not seeing it.

from all reports he killed it in training in the off season. he lost 5kg. there were no reports of not getting on with bennett or any bad behaviour or poor training/attitude. that was a myth that was started on here.

he clearly just isnt one of bennetts favourites. if this is when hes testing everyone out to see who has a place in the team, why hasnt he given vidot a run? the only logical reason is because he has no intention of giving him a spot in the team.

Maybe it's to teach him how to break the line properly, so he can become a big barnstorming winger?

He was already perfectly fine in that role.

Reportedly he was dropped for his poor decision-making and errors which can be costly at the back.

Playing him at prop isn't going to fix that and quite frankly he doesn't belong in that role.

My main problem is that it seems like the Walker brothers and Bennett operate under a completely different playbook. The Walkers are trying to experiment with the game and are trying to do things out of the ordinary while Bennett keeps it as simple as possible.

I think the situation is genuinely unfair on Vidot. If his attitude at training was poor then so be it but from all reports he did what was asked of him and it was only those lapses I mentioned earlier that kept him out.

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

There is NOTHING clear about the decision, so stop pretending you know there is. Just because you didn't read something, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Also, you could go on YouTube and find videos of Maranta doing one good thing too. So don't come at me with BS videos mate. Others here may play on your stupid arguments, but I'm not.

And it doesn't mean it did either.

All we know for a fact is that he trained hard and lost 5kg over the offseason, then seemed to be as surprised as everyone else when he wasn't picked for round 1. Bennett has said hes using the opening rounds to see who fits and who doesn't, and he hasn't even trialled Vidot.

those are the facts, and they point to Bennett having already made his mind up about him, like he did with Barba.

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

It wasn't just about the opening rounds, trial matches counted for something to and Vidot played in both.

We are still in the opening rounds. So, I guess it could still happen.

Like I said, you know one part of the story, so you can hardly use your assumption as fact, no matter what it looks like to you, the average punter.

Ok so noone on here can discuss anything unless we were a first party in the conversations, no matter how much evidence we have to support us. gotcha.

No. You're wrong, again.

I'm saying that you can't throw around baseless accusations, and make out that you know you are right.

What's this evidence you're talking about? Just that he lost weight in the off-season? That's hardly evidence mate. Come back to me when you've got something of substance that actually shows us that Bennett doesn't like the kid. Then you can make out that you no more than everyone else.

After years of observing you, I know how you argue your point, and this response here if your typical response of defeat. We've seen it all too many times.

So lets agree to disagree. Which is not really the correct term, because I don't disagree with what you're trying to say, I disagree with the way you are saying it as fact, and you are latching onto ONE reported fact. To me, all it looks like is you using this to inflate your Bennett hate.

Welcome back, BTW. Good to see you around again.

Re: Should Daniel Vidot Be In The First Grade Side?

DANIEL VIDOT HAS FEET FOR HANDS AND IS THE WORST WINGER AT DEFENDING THE HIGH BALL IN THE NRL.

Im so sick of the argument "but he makes metres" what good are they if he is a 12 point turn around every 2nd game. I'd like him to learn how to be a forward.

Im so sick of the comments on facey when they announce the team list.

All valid points. What do you think abot Copley's feet for hands?

He's only Dropley when he's on the wing, when he played Centre last year I don't recall him making many mistakes, if any, and was a beast in attack.

True, but then you go completely the other way with Maranta ....

The whole, but he's great under the high ball argument ... But is arguably the worst attacking winger on the NRL. When IMO, a wingers main job is still scoring tries)

FTR, i think the club needs better wingers that either Vidot or Maranta. Kahu will be a good start (when Boyd returns at least, that kid has talent ... And we are only just seeing him scratch the surface of thst talent. )

Vidot didn't kill it on the pre season torture camp and I would say had a decent influence on Bennetts decision.

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

It wasn't just about the opening rounds, trial matches counted for something to and Vidot played in both.

Whitchurch played in both trial matches too, and was dreadful in both trial matches (and that really is being kind), yet he still somehow managed to get a game in the season proper.

Re: Should Daniel Vidot Be In The First Grade Side?

He got a game as a bench utility to give him a shot since he's played 100 less first grade games than Vidot and Wayne didn't want to play Nikorima against the reigning premiers and chose to blood him against the reigning wooden spooners.

Must say it's worked out well for the kid.

As for Whitchurch, yes his hands let him down once or twice in the pre-season but he ran strongly and his defence was quite encouraging at times as well. Given the lack of depth, I had no issue with Wayne giving him a shot to see what he'd make of it. Turns out he didn't take it, he was dropped and just about everyone moved on.

Re: Should Daniel Vidot Be In The First Grade Side?

Just on the Vidot not getting a game argument, Wayno could be seeing how much Vidot is willing to work while Maranta gets his shot. Then if Maranta doesn't cut it, Vidot gets his shot and you have a massively hungry scary winger running into the back end of the season. Not saying that's what is going on but it certainly could be. Also hard to drop a winger that just made team of the week.

Additionally, Oates is big strong and fast, while do people not consider him a winger?

Re: Should Daniel Vidot Be In The First Grade Side?

Have thought for a long time that Vidot, long term, would make a great second rower. The losing 5kg doesn't fit with that theory, nor does the fact that 2nd row is arguably the one position we need no help in lol.

I feel for the guy though and I hope he gets another crack and kills it.
