The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

That doesn't surprise me since many of you clearly don't watch any non-broncos games. Taia and say were immensely talented and couldve been huge with the right coaching. Instead Bennett wanted nothing to do with them so just dropped them and then shipped them out.

Morris played for the dragons, you know that other team that Bennett coached? I swear, some of you need everything spelled out for you to the letter.

It's hilarious how much if an agenda you guys have - defend Bennett to the death, noone can speak ill of our lord and savior - and you just instantly dismiss any criticism as someone else having an agenda lol. Now you're back to playing the "you don't know rugby league" card?! Lol. Ive been here long enough to know that is the sure fire sign that you have no intelligent and logical arguments when that bad boy gets thrown out there.

Mate I think you need to read things properly he was talking about players that Bennett let go and went on to become big stars.

Yes he coached him, but did he leave? No, he only left last year.

Josh Morris left the Dragons ages ago.

The players WB lets go isn't really the interesting discussion point. It's the gomers he signs to replace them.

You say we have agendas?!? Deary me.

So let me get this straight, zeb taia and junior sau had immense talent, you have to be fucking kidding me.

EDIT: Baiting

Bennett had little to do with Josh Morris leaving the Dragons, the Bulldogs had swooped before Bennett had taken the reins at the Dragons.

You are clutching at straws if Sau and Taia are the best examples you have of "Bennett getting rid of all Newcastle's talented players".
Supercoach Bellamy got rid of Sau after one year (4 games), i suppose that means he also got rid of all the talent in Melbourne.

Taia was also coming back from a major neck injury when he left for the Super League, i dare say that came into consideration when a recruitment decision was made, but that might not suit your argument.

Canterbury star Josh Morris may rejoin St George Illawarra, admits manager

Josh debuted with the Dragons in 2007 but switched to the Bulldogs in 2009, the season Wayne Bennett arrived at St George Illawarra. Doust also revealed Bennett did not believe Josh would be a regular first-grader at the club.

Bennett also did it with Barba just this year remember. Flat out refused to work with him and told him to leave.

Is this the craig bellamy thread is it?

Yes he refused to work with Barba, what a mistake that was...

Yes he got rid of Josh Morris, who would obviously be wanted big dollars and it's about cap management. They went on to win a premiership and there are too many intangibles to be able to say if that was the right call, wrong call or indifferent.

Is this the craig bellamy thread is it?

No it's not, but is this how you get out of an argument you have lost? well done.

I'll concede on Morris, Bennett probably did have some influence. I knew Morris signed with the bulldogs early in 08, around April, i didn't realise Bennett signed so early with the Dragons, around April as well.
Mind you, the Dragons did have Cooper and Gasnier in the centres so letting go of Morris at that time was a simpler decision than it sounds now.

Please don't base your argument around Barba. He had a year with us where he played every game and as a fan who wanted him to do well and i also wanted us to keep him, he hardly demanded a start in 2015 with our signings and he has not gone any better at the Sharks. Not sure if you saw his interview on the Sterlo show a few weeks back but he even admitted he has lost the pace he had back in 2012 and indicated due to his injury, would probably not get it back. Without that speed it really diminishes his worth unfortunately as i think he seems a decent guy despite all the EBC rubbish.

So to recap, in 6 years away from the Broncos Bennett has released a 22 year old Josh Morris in favour of Gasnier/Cooper, Junior Sau, recovering from a serious neck injury Zeb Taia and Ben Barba.
Do you still think that constitutes getting rid of all the talent?

seems like youre making stuff up to suit your argument and agenda.

Classic projection.

So the best players Bennett got rid of at Newcastle were Zeb Taia and Junior Sa'u hey? Two players who went onto play 4 games of NRL combined.

I hope they're not including that on their resumes when they apply for 'super' status.

Between you guys, I'd go as far to say that Bennett did the Knights a favour or two by letting a lot of the players Brozilla listed leave.

Glad we've cleared that all up. Now I'm looking forward to Sunday and how the boys go in Auckland.

That is all that really matters, isn't it.

Bennett does what Bennett does ruthlessly and for his own good reasons. As I see it, Bennett is head coach AND has a coaching staff. As I understand it, Bennett has a specific role: he picks the players he thinks have the best potential to offer the club and then works on them relentlessly until they either perform or he drops them. I am also sure he gives certain players more time than others to develop.

He is also focussed on the basics: hold the ball, don't miss tackles, support the ball carrier etc etc ... the NRL fundamentals.

The other side of the coaching coin is the team's tactics and strategy: the game plan. I don't think that is Bennett's primary concern other than how individual players perform as part of that plan, which is what I think is one key thing which separates him from Griffin. For mine, Griffin tried to do it all by himself and just couldn't cut it although I feel he did some good things.

As a Barba fan, I was disappointed to see him go but I now accept that as head coach, Bennett had his reasons to let him go and I now accept that.

In any case, what counts is the performance on the field: individual contributions, and the all important game plan. Having said all this, Bennett IS responsible for that insofar as his coaching staff answer to him. So it all still comes down to the same thing: what happens on the field, and if there are problems, what the head coach does about it.

(PS. I remain opposed to Boyd being an automatic selection for FB when he recovers, IF that happens, especially while Kahu continues to develop into a top level NRL FB which looks like it to me so far).

It's posters like this and the shit they are allowed to post here that is turning this place into a LU clone with it's eternal shittiness.

The fuckhead factor is getting seriously out of control in this forum.

Treat the cause, not the symptom.
