Chris Garry interviewed his manager on the news tonight, he said Roberts wants to be a Bronco for life and appreciates that we've stood by him, and his manager said he has no interest in listening to offers from anyone other than the Broncos for his next contract.

Hopefully the penny has finally dropped, nothing would please me more than to see him come out and win Dally M Centre of the year for us in 2017.

Hopefully he can become the next hodges.

There's more important things in life than footy. He sounds to have s real problem and it would be great to hear some of the other boys in the team are supporting him by having a break from the drink so it's easier for him to keep away from it.

Hell, it would be awesome if a large group of bronco fans would get around him and have no drinks during February or something like that to show him people care.
Great post...

Also, big thumbs up for Hodgo....

I MISS YOU HODGO

I don't disagree with the sentiment but he is a grown man. A father, even. He is 100% responsible for the predicaments he finds himself in. Just like anyone else who gets liquored up.

I do agree that it would be good if his team mates support him. I think I read somewhere that Webcke and Civoniceva (probably in one of their books) and a few others had a booze ban heading into the 2006 finals series. We all know how that turned out.

I don't know him and odds are that this is just another PR job but if he has a legit issue it's not as simple as saying he's a grown man.

At the end of his day he is responsible for his own actions, true but it's unfair to act like we all begin at the same starting line when avoiding substance abuse/dependency. Genetics are proven to play a big part in addictive personalities, also class, u pbringing, emotional trauma, etc. by all reports James has been exposed to the perfect storm for addiction issues. He's still only 23 and if he has a dependency, much like smokers, the habits probably started to form well before he was old enough to be expected to make rational choices (teenage years).

The view that he should be man enough to deal with it lacks empathy in my opinion. Some people are delt a much shittier hand than most, and i think help and support is extremely important for curving substance abuse.

I understand a bit about dependencies and addiction myself. This post is 100%.

Consent and control are painted in black and white but they're very rarely so clear cut.

James Roberts is in need of long term management and help. Not to mention understanding. The worst thing for an addict is to be harshly dealt with, smacked or punished. Only exacerbates the condition.

Haven't commented on this issue just yet - but some interesting points from all.

It is a tough issue to get your head around, I can see the validity of the points people make on both sides of the argument.

Roberts is a grown man, who at the end of the day is a fucking privileleged position - and the blokes responsible for his own actions.

That being said, anyone with any personal experience with addiction, wether that be yourself or people around you, will tell you it isn't as black and white as that. Some people have a prediliction to addiciation whether that be through nature or nurture.

Regardless, I think the Roberts is lucky enough to get another chance with the broncos, largely because his on field ability could help us to a premiership this year. Moral objections notwithstanding, this is the route our club has gone.

Roberts might be a few peas short of a casserole, but I don't believe he'd be purposefully pissing his career away - the bloke must be trying but falling short. He's not the first bloke to struggle with addiction to work at the broncos, and we all know for sure he's not the only one on our side of the field most games that's had his struggles. From here all we can do is hope the bastard stays on the straight and narrow for the Broncos, and his family.

Source = Mole

NRL star walking a dangerous tightrope

Which troubled NRL star is back on the punt and the drink despite having been told in no uncertain terms that he is on his last chance in 2017?
The player has already exhausted the patience of league officials and only the fact he is an outstanding talent has saved him from having his contract sent through a shredder.
I’m expecting him to be in strife again within the first month of the premiership – and this time there will be no coming back.

If he is indeed drinking, they should just sack him now. Obviously a massive if, and it might be nothing.

would be a bit harder to escape official scrutiny on a team trip though.
Could have been at the nines.

ROberts latest incident started at the races, no?

Yeah but it was an event in which broncos and titans were invited to . It was him heading to the clubs after which got him in trouble.
