Our new halfback should be

Birds played fullback in the past for Cronulla but I doubt he's going to play there for us. A guy like him wants to be on the ball so I think he'll be in the thick of it. Chris Garry does not know the mind of WB and nor do I. Fullbacks are important but WB likely wouldn't be paying huge money for someone not playing a huge part in the action.

Does Bird have a (decent) kicking game?

Mmmmm, I don't know. I do know he must have kicked a hundred thousand times growing up and I'd be willing to bet, with his eye hand coordination that he certainly can kick a football well. I don't know it for certain but I have little doubt he'd have some skill

How are fullbacks not a huge part of the action? They are a glory position, finishing off sets, running into holes and looking terrific. Most teams have their best attacking players there.

Because they are not a huge portion of the action during a game, frequently not playing any role during an offensive set of six and if the balls kicked through to their wingers, may not really take part then either.

They make a part of a whole but it's just not as big a part as some would believe. Sure they're vitally important as many others are.

You have to try and understand the context and not quibble over one unimportant word in a post.

I strongly disagree with all of this. I can understand how you could maybe not think that.. But off the ball the fullback does so much. Runs mountains more metres than any other player. And is always involved with the attack even if in support. They have to be. I'm talking a good fullback that is.. One who does their job in the role. A passive or uninvolved fullback won't have a team in the top 4.

It depends on the fullback, though. Slater for example is always around the ruck, and usually has a few touches, either passing it along, having a run or acting as a decoy/distraction. The threat of their involvement is often as important as their actual touches.

So, you disagree that they are vitally important ? You obviously don't disagree with all of it. I'm not disputing how important the fullback is 9,7,6 and 1 are considered vitally important. It's all about the context in my original post....time to get over it guys. I was writing about committing huge money and the player position which is worthy of it, I WAS NOT commenting on the value or contribution of fullback.

I have to disagree. For mine Boyd is always there in defence - defending, and organising the line, and always looking for opportunities in attack. Same as Slater if not most of the best FB's. I reckon the best FB's are leaders.

On that score, I think Bird hasn't got the head space yet for FB. He just wants to run and ball play rather than lead.

So we are making a massive play for taylor! But he says he is happy at titans . Maybe why we are playing hardball with milf, so we can have funds for a decent offer.

We should be playing hard ball with him to avoid paying overs not to try a have funds available to sign a player we can even make an offer to until November.

If we are playing hard ball with Milford so we have funds available to make an offer to Taylor for 2019, we could end up losing Milford only for Taylor to re-sign with with the GC before we are allowed to even table an offer ... and that would mean we are screwed

I have quietly heard Titans management are concerned about Taylor not committing...
Not being able to register a contract until November, doesn't mean not being able to discuss terms before then!

As big a fan of Taylor as I am, it would be incredibly stupid to lose Milford in this case, although I can see WB thinking about a Taylor - Kodi/Bird partnership.

Cue the suicidal posts about speed bumps in our halves.

You think Wayne would be fine with Milford leaving?

No I don't, but Wayne does have some form in regards to these contract matters.

He more often than not gets his way, but as I've mentioned before, playing Russian roulette with our most talented player might come back to bite us...

So play hardball to loose milf and not have a reason , other than save money ??

You think milf is out ?
